This book felt like a time capsule from the 1970s; I imagine it was a Doubleday Book-of-the-Month club main selection. A look at the lives of two middle-aged, recently divorced women living in the suburbs dealing with dating, sex, aging, loneliness.

I love the filmed version of this book, the very different "Between Friends" with Carol Burnett and Elizabeth Taylor. The movie focused mostly on the relationship between the two women, the book less so.

Poetic. Repetitive. Slow burn. Definitely not every body’s taste. But I thoroughly enjoyed it. I was please to find out that it was made into a tv movie in the 1970s. While reading, I couldn’t help but wonder how a director would translate it to film. I’ll have to see.
