The Hare, Raising Truth

Rate this book
Grimm’s Fairy Tales meets The Twilight Zone in this twisted tale of a teenage boy who wants what most boys want. The Hare, Raising Truth is not appropriate for children or prudes.

Aeron McCloud doesn’t know how good he has it. When he discovers the magical powers of his grandfather’s crusty old rabbit’s foot, he believes the good luck charm will deliver him from his unlucky past. He’s already dating the hottest girl in school, but he wants more. With his 17th birthday approaching, he plans to get really lucky with Jade.

What Aeron doesn’t know is that Jade has her own plan for him. She’s saving the surprise for his party.

Told from a 2nd person perspective, this adult fairy tale will encourage you to consider carefully what you might desire if you should ever find a “lucky charm.”

Hi!

I was raised in Braintree, MA, but ended up living high in Colorado's Rocky Mountains! As a graduate of the United States Military Academy in 1983, I live life in a constant quest for challenge and adventure. My stories are about life--real and imagined!

"Miss?" Based on my experience as a first-year teacher, "Miss?" is a loosely fictionalized novel. It earned the IndieReader Approved Award.

Haikus Can Amuse: 366 Haiku Starters. A gift journal. Finish the 2nd and 3rd lines of a haiku when given the first line, and write down your inspiration!

Aeron is a typical teenage boy, except he's managed to make the most gorgeous girl in school his girlfriend. When he finds an old rabbit's foot in his garage that had belonged to his grandfather, his luck begins to change. He takes his lucky charm with him everywhere, using it to get whatever he wants. Unfortunately, the one thing he wants most--to get lucky with his girlfriend--always seems just out of reach. His birthday is coming up though and he's determined for things to go his way.

I am a huge fan of fairly tales, from the happy-ending types to the twisted, Grimm tales. The Hare, Raising Truth is definitely more of the dark, twisted, Grimm-type, though not without a humorous narrative to keep things entertaining! Despite not really liking the main character Aeron--he's kind of a punk who doesn't appreciate those around him--I loved how the story came together, especially the ending. Give this dark tale a try!

Aeron, somewhat an orphan raised by his Grandmother is the main character in this story and is "living the dream" as he finalizes his last year in High School. If you want to know what goes on in the minds of our younger generation this story will educate you and at the same time keep you spellbound.

The "Hare" foot a long time symbol of bringing luck to a person is central to the plot of this modern day fairytale. The "Lucky" rabbit's foot moves the story forward quickly into a nightmare that most would not even dream of...

The author, Ms. McHargue takes you inside the mind of modern day teens utilizing keen word illustration all the while describing explicit detail, making you think that you are there. This is an entertaining and fun read!

Although mildly entertaining, it was predictable, written in second person, and there were many, many groan/ugh/face palm moments.

I met the author and received a copy of this with no promise of a review. The author is just that generous and kind.
This is a short story that was written during NaNoWriMo. I didn't love it but I enjoyed it (mostly the ending).

A high school boy is dating a beautiful girl but can only focus on one thing. The guy isn't a great guy -he is pretty much a giant jerk. Upon learning his background, you can sense the foreshadowing.
Since it is a short story, I won't say anything more other than... I enjoyed the ending because it is like a true Grimm's ending.

An enjoyable little fairy tale. It went a bit long in the middle, and the ending was a bit abrupt, but it was a fun ride that came to a satisfying end.
