"A Woman God's Spirit Can Guide" gives a beautiful account of biblical women and the strong presence of God in their lives. The way in which this book was written, with the addition of questions for reflection and discussion at the end of each chapter, this would be a great addition to women's book clubs and/or women's bible study groups.

Note: I was loaned a digital copy of this book by NetGalley and the book's publisher in exchange for my honest review, for which I am really grateful. I'm hoping to get a physical copy of this book some time in the future.

Alice Matthews reminds us to put to use what God has given us to spread the Good News. You’ll examine the lives of heroines of the faith like Dorcas, Lydia, Phoebe, and other women from the New Testament to see how God’s Spirit directs lives based on their individual gifts and abilities. You’ll find inspiration to reflect on God’s will for your life as you consider what you have the passion, ability, and opportunity to do. Open your heart and let the Holy Spirit guide you and help you to make wise decisions in using your gifts for the Lord!

We aren’t given our talents and strengths just for our own use, but to use to ultimately glorify our Savior. God has given us our unique blend of strengths, experiences, and even our weaknesses to use to spread the Gospel and glorify Him. This book is an amazing resource in becoming a woman God can truly use. I really enjoyed taking a closer look at the women of the New Testament and seeing how they surrendered their will to God and the amazing ways the Holy Spirit was able to use them because of it.

I’d like to thank Alice Matthews, Discovery House, and Netgalley for providing me with an electronic copy of this book. I understand that receiving the book in this manner does not obligate me to leave a positive review. All opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

From Eve to Phoebe, Alice Matthews walks the reader through women's narratives in the Bible, studying the historical context, original language, and full testimony of Scripture to bring to light each woman's purpose and contribution to furthering God's kingdom. Alice Matthews covers a range of topics, from challenging common interpretations of scripture like Eve's responsibility for sin to exploring racism in the early Christian church. Chapter by chapter, Matthews builds a case for equality, concluding that "women as 'helpers' are not merely spectators on the sideline, occasionally called on to provide secondary assistance to a man. . . . It's about men recognizing the value that women can uniquely bring . . . it's about joint responsibility for stewarding God's earth."

Women who feel silenced or limited by the church will find Alice Matthews scholarly and careful examination of Scripture a breath of fresh air and an encouragement to shamelessly pursue God's calling for their lives.

I am thankful to have received this ARC from NetGalley as well as the publisher. I found this devotional to be well written and cited, but found that they were too wordy for me to keep on top of. I prefer succinct devotionals that invoke feeling and thought that I can continue to reflect on for the remainder of my day. I feel as though this devotional would be well suited for a Bible study group versus for one’s personal at home use.

A very good explanation on the psychological as well as the physical differences between men and women. Explains why we need both genders to solve our problems. This came in the final couple of chapters but lent a lot to the reason women are important.
Liked how Ms. Mathews showed how the New Testament women were important in the lives of early Christians.

Learned some things that I didn't realize before. Bottom line the Lord will use those who are available and willing. Be humble. Have a servant's heart. Put others first. Never stop learning.
