Redwood Dragons #1

Defiance and the Dragon

Rate this book
A secret world exists that even the shifters have not discovered…

Dragon shifter Knox Pars thinks he’s seen it all. He serves as clan leader to an elite clan of dragon shifters, and he’s spent his life defending the ancient, powerful dragon artifacts. It’s a crazy life, full of dangerous missions and old magic, and nothing surprises him anymore. Nothing, that is, except the most beautiful woman he’s ever met walking into his life and announcing that wizards still exist—and desperately need his help. Everyone knows the wizards have been extinct for centuries…or have they? Knox is forced to make a quick decision on whether to trust the so-called wizard, but it’s hard to think clearly when his heart keeps getting in the way of his head.

Wizard Advocate Bree Riley has suddenly become an outcast and a fugitive. When an ordinary day at her tame office job turns into the unexpected discovery that her entire clan of wizards is doomed unless they join forces with another powerful clan, she pleads with the High Council to forget the old laws prohibiting contact with shifters. But no one will listen to her, and Bree must risk her own life and magic to go find the shifters on her own. Convincing the shifters that she’s telling the truth about her wizard abilities isn’t so easy, though. She has to find a way to prove to Knox, the handsome leader of a powerful dragon shifter clan, that wizards still exist before it’s too late to save Bree’s clan, or herself. With the High Council hot on her trail and ready to strip her of her magic, Bree is running out of time. And then, as if her life isn’t complicated enough, she realizes that she’s falling desperately in love with Knox…

Can Bree convince Knox that she’s telling the truth, before she loses him and her clan alike? And will Knox be able to trust in a new kind of magic—the magic of the heart? Read this action packed shifter-wizard romance to find out!

Defiance and the Dragon is the first book in Sloane Meyers' Redwood Dragons Series, and can easily be read as a standalone book. Please note, this novel is intended for mature audiences and contains explicit love scenes as well as adult language.

While the idea behind the story was interesting, I found the writing tedious, repetitive and juvenile. Some of the sentences were so convoluted that I had to read them several times for them just to make sense. The dinamics of the dragon crew had that good ol' boys " Oh, shucks, Mam" feel . But what really plummeted this book for me is when in the upcoming sex scene the H " closed his teeth over her right nipple, chewing in a firm, steady rhythm " . They shouldn't have skipped the dinner. ' Nuff said.

A Little Disjointed For Me

Bree and Knox's story was pretty good!

A Dragon shifter, head of the Redwood Dragon Clan is seeked out by a clever and beautiful wizard who needs his Help. Knox was seen in the last series. This new series is about the Redwood Dragon Clan who protect and gather powerful relics to ensure peace amongst shifters and humans. They work at all costs to keep them out of the hands of evil. This clan consists of nine orphan dragons who were raised by a powerful Dragon shifter, who has now retired.

3.5 Stars - Knox has been their new clan leader for several years. When Bree comes into his life he must learn to delegate and trust more his brothers. Could this little wizard be his lifemate? Wizards have not existed in ages. Is she really a wizard or just a spy?

Bree is a young wizard who is very, very smart. She has presented her research to her clan's High Council, but they do not believe her. She knows she must risk being mated excommunicated, but she must save them. In order to save her clan she needs to find a good shifter. Little did she know she would find one who makes her heart race with such force.

I wanted more out of Knox' story than this. Having read all of this author's work, I was disappointed. This was disjointed and the lifemate bond was not explained well enough. I knew about it because I have read all of this author's books. I will say there were a lot of grammatical errors. I also did not like the cover of this book. All in all so gave this 3 Stars. I hope the next one comes out soon and that it is much better.

Redwood Dragons starts off with a powerful first story in Defiance and the Dragon. A wizard. A dragon. Together as mates – if that isn’t a great and iconic way to start off this series, then I don’t know what would be. Because the Story Blurb-Description already gives you the basics of this story I’m going to jump to the fun parts.

Bree may be one of the youngest official wizards but she’s passionate about what she knows is the right thing to do – and she sets out to accomplish that immediately. I liked Bree. She’s smart, stubborn and capable even if those above her in rank don’t seem to think so. She’s facing losing everything she holds dear in order to save her clan – even if they don’t believe her. That takes courage, something Bree does not lack.

Knox is new at being the leader of his clan, a position he’s only recently taken. His clan are the ten orphan dragons that William saved in the last great shifter war, and raised them as his own. His guidance and teachings have kept them alive and viable for a very, very long time. Now William is older, slower and has settled in Texas with his new mate at his side. Knox has leadership, even if it doesn’t really fit comfortably just yet. In some serious ribbing from his friends, Knox decides to take a survival mission of his own to prove to himself that he’s still got the skills, and not only teaching them. He never would have expected to meed a wizard, his mate or to find himself and his clan thrust into the search and retrieval of even more dragon stones.

Defiance and the Dragon is full of the witty banter, fast story line and sexy moments that I’ve come to expect from a Sloane Meyers story. We get a good feel for some of the other dragons that most likely will have their own tales told soon, revisit with a few old friends and face some dangerous times as Bree and Knox set out to save not only Bree’s clan but the other shifters and humans as well. An exciting start to the series, and I’m looking forward to the next release.

I’d recommend this story to any Paranormal Romance or Shifter Romance reader. You do not “have” to have read the series before this, but it’s a good one and will clear any questions you might have currently.

After going to her council and them refusing to help, Wizard Advocate Bree Riley is determined to make sure that the dragon stone is in the right hands. Dragon shifter Knox Pars is determined to prove to himself that he was the right choice and leader of his clan. When the two meet Knox is originally skeptical, but admits to feeling something towards Bree. Will Bree be able to prove wizards still exist? Will they be able to find and retrieve the dragon stone?

Was so excited to see this book linked to the Texas Heat Series. Loved these two characters and how both of the personalities matched. Bree was definitely brave and the fact that Knox was willing to trust her after she drove him insane was a true testament to his personality. Another Sloane Meyers hit!

Not so sure on this one .. was pretty good. Had some excitement to it. But the story was good I think lol.. ok can honestly say I am just not sure about this book 📚. I might try another one to say. Bunch of dragon shifters live in the woods in the redwood forest. Taking care of artifacts for paranormal and another dragon stone has been found. So a witzard, girl, finds out and no one believes her. Together they have to find the dragon stone..

Decent

This was quite decent story. Nothing groundbreaking, but it also wasn't filled with issues that irritate a reader. That's saying something for me. Stupid characters really irritate me. Anyway, these were good characters and a sweet love story with a little bit of hotness without overwhelming the story. We got a little drama. It was all resolved almost too easily and the battles were so quick as to be too easy. Despite this, a sweet, quick read.

Great story

This was a great story. I think that this story might be before the last series I just read from this author. I’m very glad I found this author, and I can’t wait for the rest of this series. I also believe that there are books that happen before this book. Especially ones with unicorn shifters. I am also looking forward to reading that series too.

DNF at 3 chapters in. The writing style is boring and almost childish - like, Wattpad-level. (And not the good Wattpad books either). When the wizard and dragon meet, she decides he is "good" just because of how he killed an animal - this is not at all good reasoning, and she knew the risks of telling a "bad" shifter.

It's just terrible.... I cannot understand the high reviews.

This...

This is a nice new outlook on paranormals of many different species, both good and evil. It is a great start to what I feel will be an amazing series. No cliffs to fall off, but room given for continuing the journey in the next story!

Knox

I was a little leery to start this new series. Why I read reviews, I don't know. I have never read anything from Sloane Meyers I did not enjoy. This one is no exception it is only going to get more interesting as this series progresses. Can't wait.

Defiance and the Dragon

I kind of suspected that Samuel was a snake. He protested louder than everyone else about her and wouldn't allow her to talk. He's lucky the Dragon didn't swallow him.

Defiance and the Dragon

Knox is the leader of his dragon clan. Bree is a wizard. Bree defies orders from the wizard high council and goes to find good shifters to help her recover the sapphire dragon stone which has magical properties. The wizard high council does not believe her research regarding the stone and threatens to strip her of her powers and ring if she disobeys. She leaves that night to find the shifters. The excitement is riveting. I absolutely loved this book and will definitely look for more of Sloane's books.

Great story!!!

Totally enjoyable. It had enough action and adventure to keep me totally engrossed from page one till the end. Then throw in a few torrid love scenes and you've got panty wetting excitement! Loved it!!

This is a new to me author, and I was pleased with the story. It was fast paced, held my attention, was sweet, had some action, and romance.

I liked Bree because she was courageous and stood up for what she believed in, even if it meant giving up everything she knew and was.

Knox was protective, kind, gentle, and was a perfect match for Bree. I liked how he trusted her after following his gut instincts and protected her from danger.

I'll definitely be continuing the series.
