They say you can't go home again, but when you're broke, down on your luck, and wanted in two states... it's the only place left.
Adelaide spent high school dreaming of the day she’d lift a middle finger to her small town life and watch it all fade away in the rear-view mirror. After marrying a man who she thought was her prince charming, Adelaide had finally gotten everything she ever wanted…until the silver spoon was ripped from her mouth and her prince was revealed to be just another cheating jackass. Suddenly homeless with nowhere else to turn, she must head back to the one place she never thought she’d have to show her face again.
Savannah just wanted to see the world, but ended up a twenty-five-year-old vagabond with nothing to show for her life but a string of loser ex-boyfriends. Instead of saving the planet, she sells jewelry on the internet and digs in the cushions for loose change. Making the decision to cut her losses, Savannah packs up and hits the road. It’s time to go back to the beginning and figure out where she went wrong.
Adelaide and Savannah couldn’t wait to leave the bayou. However, when circumstances force them out of their self-imposed exiles, they have no choice but to belly crawl back to the place they both turned their backs on. The Dubois sisters find that sometimes you’ve got to uncover your roots to find your future.
The good thing about hitting swamp bottom? There's only one way to go...
K.A Ware is an indie author living in Ridgefield, Washington. Her days consist of surfing the internet while pretending to write, making soap, and taking care of her young daughter. Writing is not her only passion, K.A. also serves on the Board of Directors for a local non-profit and spends way too much time reading. She believes in the power of words, alpha females, and that special escape you get when you hunker down and dig into a good book. When she’s not busy mothering, working, writing, or reading she enjoys spending time with family and friends and embracing the weirdness and wonder that is the Pacific Northwest. K.A. loves to cook and is often found tinkering in the kitchen and trying to feed anyone that walks through her door. She is obsessed with music, so if you find yourself at a metal show in Portland —take a look around— she’s the crazy redhead head banging at the front.
This book is fabulous! I could not stop laughing! Stuck up Addie and wild Savvy return to their home town to attend their grandfather's funeral. Both ending their terrible relationships with men.
Kevin Junior Bacon Cheeseburger is adorable.
Savvy meets hot Officer Pope. Addie is now working with her enemy since high school, Zep.
I can't wait for next book!! I'm volunteering to leave for an advance readers copy.
Hilarious! I want to take a road trip with my new book girlfriends.
This book did not disappoint. Holy WOW, it was hilarious, but poignantly touching as well. We meet two sisters who appear to be polar opposites, Adelaide, and Savannah, yet both share one thing in common - they have hearts of pure gold. Reading this book was like being in a bold, sassy kick ass movie. I can't wait for the next instalment!
What happens when you team up to epic writers who just so happen to friends? You get the Swamp Bottom Series, Front Porches and Funerals (book 1) written by Cora Kenborn and KA Ware. Let me tell you I devoured this book! This is a novella so it is a quick read. I was honored to receive an arc of this book. I fell in love with the southern charm and the sisters, one who is prim and proper and the other a free bird. As they meet back at their hometown due to family matters. What is in store for them? I will never tell get you copy now you don’t want to miss out! The way these talented ladies wrote the story draws you in with that southern swamp magic that you can’t help but feel like your part of it as sitting in the car with Kevin Junior Bacon Cheeseburger to sitting next to Babs drinking her stash. I was completely drawn into the story and could wait to finish reading it so I knew how things would end but now I really want the next book!!
This book was like an over the top, hilarious Soap Opera! I could hear the dramatic music in some scenes! These two sisters are on a hilarious trip of self discovery. The authors writing was extremely good, their styles meshed together so well, I couldn't tell when one or the other was writing, which gave the book a very good flow. It was fast paced, funny, and sweet, with some vulgar rolled in. I loved the book and can't wait for the rest! I highly recommend it!
I just loved this book!! Two crazy southern sisters, a pot belly pig, a southern russian grandmother....Oh My!! It was laugh out loud funny!! I could just hear them talking in my head. I can't wait to see what crazy antics these two will continue to bring us!! Pour yourself a glass of sweet tea (side of moonshine optional) and don't miss this series!!
I was laughing hard through this whole book. I mean a acting snobby sister and her free going counterpart. Adelaide the snobby sis looses herself for 10 years and comes home for a funeral. Savannah takes control of her life and helps adelaide figure out what she wants and is. the pet pig and roots returning makes this extremely well written and funny. this is an honest review for a copy I was given.
Front Porches & Funerals is the first book I have read by Cora and K.A. This is the first book in the Swamp Bottom series and it was Amazing! I loved it and laughed with Savvy and Addie. I can't wait to read more of the Swamp Bottom series.
I have read this book actually twice. The side splitting laughter is so refreshing! The collaboration between these two authors it's amazing. It's almost designed to write together. The way they play off of each other is readers gold! Every character in this book is relatable one way or another. You can either see some of them in you or someone who you know... I know I have! Adelaide is the careful sister. Conditioned by a man with a pedigree background and as shady as an umbrella. Sometimes living in a place like Sugarbirch doesn't really change who you are on the inside.. who she always was. All it took was a call from home. Savannah is the wild free spirited sister. She is the one who stretches a dime to a dollar. She lives Day by day. Until she gets word to come back to Terrebonne perish. Savannah packs up her pig Kevin bacon Jr. cheeseburger hops in her mooch of a boyfriends shitty Van and heads home. When theses two sisters reunite, the killer comedy and drama come alive! Mix in characters like Babs, Zep and officer Pope. Be prepared to camp out and power read.. seriously spectacular read!
I absolutely loved this book! Addy and Savvy are my new favorite sisters. They are so different, but together they are so much fun and they both come to life in the pages.
I am so curious what the heck happened between Zep and Addy. It is going to drive me crazy, but either way there is some hot tension between those two characters.
Also, why are they heading to New Orleans? Hopefully we will find out soon. Awesome read and highly recommend!!!
Once I started this book I could not stop reading. It is a funny read about two sisters with completely different personalities. I can't wait for the next book in this series. I would recommend this book. It is a great short read. Be aware it ends in a cliff hanger. But the Author warns us of this. I loved it.
I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
A tale of two sisters, absolutely loved it. The difference between the two may seem immense but family always comes first. This was witty and fun, I look forward to seeing if there will be more shenanigans with these two!
What an absolutely amazing book!! This story had me laughing from the first page and I loved every second of it. The DeBois sisters are about as opposite as could possibly be and that is what makes them so amazing to read about. This is a quick, sassy read that will have tears in your eyes from laughing so hard!!! This was just the first book in the series and I cannot wait for the next.
Loving the storyline so far....and loving the laugh out loud moments. You might not be drinking while reading this you might spew from busting out laughing in unexpected times. Oh and the ex husband is the king of douchedom!! Thanks Jamie Nibarger Ellis
This book speaks to me on so many levels. I honestly feel such a strong connection with this book. I can relate to both sisters though I am way more Savvy than I am Addie. I was also thrown into a business I knew nothing about after a death and went through I rough breakup before it. Like holy crap! The similarities are uncanny. I would totally own a pig and would come up with a crazy name like Kevin Junior Bacon Cheeseburger! I wanted to cry cause it reminded me so much of my life. Definitely a quick but fun read. Can’t wait to continue on this journey with the girls
Front Porches and Funerals: A Swamp Bottom Series Novella Written by KA Ware and Cora Kenborn Genre: RomCom; Novella
This is book 1 of a multi-book series of Novella's. Front Porches and Funerals is the story of the Dubois sisters, Adelaide and Savannah. They were born and raised in the bayous of Louisiana and both sisters wanted to get the hell out of there as soon as they could, and they did. However, They have both hit rock bottom and are now having to go back home to try to put their lives back together again. I loved this book, and I can't wait to see what happens. KA Ware and Cora Kenborn are such a dynamic writing duo. They are well matched in writing style and character development. These 2 authors are downright hilarious and I laughed out loud A LOT in this book. As this is a novella I was able to read this book in under 2 hours. Adelaide, I have to say, I really saw me in her. I am also the first born, I never got into trouble, I have always envied my little sister, so for me, Addie was me (Minus the douche bag of a husband). I can't wait to see what becomes of her. As this book progressed you can already tell she is about to have a come to Jesus moment with Roland and I can't WAIT. I look forward to seeing her grow into who she was meant to be. Savannah, is the free spirit and tends to get herself in trouble. She reminds me so much of my sister as well. She is outgoing, but in a crazy way that you are kind of hesitant to go in public with because you just don't know what is going to come of her mouth or if you are headed to jail. I am really looking forward to finding out what kind of trouble she is going to get into. I also can't wait to see if any of Addie's character will rub off on her and rein in some of her craziness. I am sure it will be Hilarious. Some other characters that stood out to me, I would have to say Babs, whom I LOVE. Oh man,the broken English KILLED me. And seriously, did anyone else read her lines in a Russian accent? Because I am raising my hand high, I totally did. Kev the pig... oh man... I CRIED from laughing. Love it, and I can only imagine the other "shit" he is going to get into. I can't love this book enough and don't want to give away spoilers so I am ending this review here. Amazing writing, HILARIOUS, a quick fast paced read, this book flows very well and the character development is outstanding. This is a Highly recommended book in my opinion. I am impatiently waiting for the second one.
Now this is an entertaining read! Get ready to laugh, because that's all I did while reading this short novella (in just over an hour). If you're looking for a hilarious new read, look no further!
This story is written by two authors, and they work really well together to create two great, memorable sisters, Addie and Sav. There's a back and forth between the sisters that can only come from two similar minds melding together, and they create a realistic pair of sisters. I like both sisters for different reasons, but I'm really looking forward to seeing Addie come back and own her life. She's made bad decisions and tried to be right and proper, but now she's been called out for it by her sister. It's going to be a fun ride. Savanah is wonderful as well, with a no-nonsense attitude to admire, and a pig. Both have a love/hate interest at this point, and I'm excited to see the shenanigans that the girls get into as they deal with these men. The cast of secondary characters are also great, and you can't help but love the whole family.
Overall, it's a great starting story for this series. It's going to be a series of novellas, so they will be short. Thankfully, they are packed with awesome people and plenty of action. This story also ends with a cliffhanger, and I was super worried about it going into reading this story. I'm the type of person who HATES cliffhangers (and then gives bad reviews), but this one wasn't horrible. It's a well-written story full of laughs and the many great details about why family is first. It makes you want nothing more than to see these two girls get their act together once and for all. I'm very excited to read the next book in the series!
I received an ARC of this story from the authors in return for an honest review.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Have you ever read a book thought dang have these authors followed my family around? Granted not everything is the same the police are not hot or that nice and neither my sister or I married a rich man but..... woo! I am in love with this book so far. These are sets of Novellas about two southern hilarious sisters Adelaide and Savannah who left Terrebonne Parrish LA for different reasons but now find themselves coming back home when their grandfather has passed away. These two sisters set out on an adventure to change the course of their lives and the pet pig Kevin Jr bacon cheeseburger is along for the ride! I am all in with this book! Freaking hilarious! The grandma- I swear this is MY grandma! I cannot wait for the next novella! First time read for both of these authors will not be the last! You need a Hilarious fun read to get caught up in? This is it! I voluntarily read an advanced readers copy of this crazy ride
OMG I Loved Front Porches & Funerals!! This is a hilarious book and there were so many times I laughed out loud. My husband thought I was crazy because he caught me either laughing or with a smile on my face. Every time I read him what I was laughing about he started laughing too.
This is the story of two totally opposite sister's who both end up back in their hometown to go to their grandfather's funeral. The characters were real and believable and the plot made sense and flowed. This is the first time I’ve read a story line like this and I loved it! I loved the way the sisters interacted and the snarky humor they both had. I especially loved Grandma Babs, she is one of a kind.
I couldn’t put this book down and I finished it in one sitting. KA Ware and Cora Kenborn are brilliant authors and are hilarious together. I can’t wait to read more in The Swamp Bottom Series!
Babs is my ultimate hero!!!!! I laughed throughout the entire book!! It leaves you wanting to know what will happen next with Savannah and Adelaide!! These two sisters couldn't be more unalike and THAT makes Front Porches and Funerals a laugh a minute story that, if your not careful, you will spit your coffee out while reading ( this may or may not have happened to me while reading) There is SO much to these sisters than meet the eye! They both left the swamp for better lives, but they kinda fell short on that aspect. When tragedy brings them back to their family, their pasts meet with their present and ANYTHING can (and probably will) happen. I gotta say My favorite character HAS to be..... KEVIN JR BACON CHEESEBURGER!!!!! LOVED every minute of this story and I was blown away with these two ladies and I praise them for bringing us The Swamp Bottom series!!
This was a quick read but full of humor. I laughed so hard while reading. Being from the south I can relate to so many things in this book. The story really sucked me in and I can't wait for the next one to come out. I'm intrigued about what happened with Zep and Addie and what's going to happen with Savvy and Officer Hottie.
I was given a copy of Front Porches and Funerals and this is my freely given honest review. It was crazy funny and original to boot! I read approximately 200 books a year. It's pretty hard for me to stumble across on something new and fresh however K.A. Ware and Cora Kenborn have written The Swamp Bottom series for readers to enjoy. Set in a rural Louisiana parish two sisters are returning home to bury their grandfather. Addie the prodigal perfect sister that has definitely not been living the perfect life for the last decade and Savannah the free spirited sister that has found out that a free spirit lifestyle is not everything that it's cracked up to be. The cast of characters is hilarious, from the over-processed women of Shreveport, the cheating soon to be ex-husband, the bad boy/now man from high school, the Russian grandma, the pot bellied pig and a hot cop that looks like Channing Tatum! This is a novella that ends on a cliffhanger. I know that a lot of readers don't like cliffhangers and normally I am one of them but I have been hooked. I can't wait to see what is waiting for these sisters in what I believe is going to be a wild southern ride!
Having a Bad Day? Job, Spouse, Kids, Bills getting on your last nerve? Drop everything, poor a glass of what-ever-makes- you -happy and pick up this book. Cora Kenborn & K.A. Ware have written an outrageously funny story of 2 Sisters that are polar opposites reuniting for their Pappy's funeral. Funerals aren't supposed to be funny - but you never met the DuBois family. Throw in Kevin Bacon Jr Cheeseburger (my new book boyfriend) *snort*, Babs, the vodka queen of Louisiana and not one but 2 hot guys - and throw your cares out the window as you partake in a new form of therapy. With 3 more books already available and 4 more to come every 6 weeks, consider this series the least expensive therapy session you will ever attend. Thank you Ladies, sorry I am late to the party but I feel better already.
This book was hilarious and had me laughing and almost crying. in this book we meet Addie and Savvy two sisters going home for their pappy's funeral. they are on their way to self discovery. Addie is booted out of her home with nothing after 10 yrs. Savvy is trying to find out who she is. Together these two will have you laughing, and say wtf just happened. It's a awesome story that you picture yourself living. and let's not forget Kevin Bacon the pig.
Oh my gosh! Two of my favorite writer girls team up to write 6 novellas and this is the first. Hilarious does not begin to describe this book. It is a trip with two sisters that will keep you in side splitting, thigh slapping (some of us snorting) Oh so entertaining and just wished it was 2 chapters longer. Well done ladies!
OMG finally read this story and I totally feel like I should have read it a long time ago! Definitely easy flowing full of humor but managed to wonderfully intertwine the subject of being true to ones self. Totally loved Addie, Savvy heck even the pig! And can't wait to find out more about Zep. I'm off to read the next part in this series!
This book was awesome! It was absolutely hilarious. The girls, Addie/Adelaide and Savvy/Savannah are so fun! Full of laughs and shenanigans. Hot boys, too. I really enjoyed this book it was short and a fast read but it was so good. Tons of fun characters to laugh at!
Addies grandpa passes away so she goes home after 10 years but what she doesn't know is their is something in his will that she's not to happy about!!! This book made me laugh between pigs and cops and cheating husbands and strippers but These ladies did amazing on this book and can't wait to read their next book for my next laugh!
This book was fun and energetic! I love the DuBuois sisters. So much reminds me of home. I love it. Couldn't put it down. Can't wait to see what other shenanigans they get into next!
Front Porches and Funerals was hilarious! This is the first book in the Swamp Bottom series and it a laugh out loud must read. Its got everything you need in a great rom-com, great banter between the characters and of course a crazy grandmother.
