These days, all too often meal time finds families rushing to eat and get out the door, or worse yet, family members are glued to their cell phones, reading, texting, or scrolling through Facebook or Instagram while at the table.
This engaging and delightful book is an amazing and easy to use resource to help families get back to the basics, using the family table as an opportunity to teach, instruct and show love.
Each page starts with a passage of scripture from the Bible, followed by a short p

“Just a spoonful of sugar makes the medicine go down in a most delightful way.”  So sang Mary Poppins in the famous Walt Disney film based on the books by Pamela L. Travers.  Well, according to author Annette Hubbell, 2018 Illumination Awards Silver Medalist for exemplary Christian Writing, “Just a spoonful of grace” can make the entire mealtime more delightful.    This book is a collection of 366 thought-provoking, gratitude-building daily graces.  There are 304 Everyday Graces, 52 Sunday Grace ...more

Although many people enjoy eating meals with others and therefore saying grace with others, there are people who occasionally or frequently find themselves eating meals alone for a variety of reasons. With that said, “A Spoonful of Grace” is a real blessing to those people who find themselves faced with wanting to say grace before a meal when alone, but just not sure what words to use. "A Spoonful of Grace" makes saying grace a celebration, even when alone.

Until I had Annette Hubbell’s delightf

The devotional book A Spoonful of Grace by author Annette Hubbell was such a pleasure to read. Each day has three different sections, Scripture, Grace, and Grace Notes. This book won an Illumination book award and after reading just a few pages I could see why. This is an ideal read for the whole family while sitting around the kitchen table. Not only is it a great way to begin, or end a day, it also encourages talk among the participants with such questions as What can you do to stretch your fa ...more

A Spoonful of Grace is different from any other book I've read. The format makes it easy to pick up the book, open to any page, read the three sections, and walk away with a thought-provoking conversation going on in my mind. The format is intended for mealtime grace and discussion, but I've been reading it more as a devotional - and each page has given me insight, fresh ideas and a new approach to the day's subject. The use of The Message for scripture references is an excellent choice for toda ...more

This great devotional book does exactly what it sets out to do: provide mealtime blessings in short, bite-sized pieces.

I do feel as though it's geared more toward families with children (any age); as a single woman who eats alone for 9 meals out of 10 (and I love it!), not all of it was applicable to me or geared to my situation. But that's fine. I think kids will appreciate the shortness :) and there are plenty of opportunities to talk about spiritual things as a result of these devos!

I really enjoy this book. There are enough prayers to go through an entire year without repeating one, with an added section of special ones for holidays and birthdays. Each day also provides a scripture reading and "Grace Notes," which are quotations and ideas to continue a discussion.

One of the things I like about this book is that the scripture readings include selections from all 66 books of the Bible, even those which are sometimes ignored/neglected. While I no longer have small children in

Having grown up in a home where saying grace before dinner was just reciting a memorized ditty before we got to the good stuff, and then having married into a family where meaningful prayer was a daily commitment, I was intrigued by this book. From casual Christians to the Pope himself, everyone will find something to love about "A Spoonful of Grace". Each ‘grace’ is short enough to read aloud before the food gets cold. And that may be enough for some people. But the best part of the book is tha ...more

I recommend this book to everyone that has ever stumbled through a mealtime prayer thanking Him and asking for His favor and protection. I just love the mixture of devotion and wit that Annette uses in this anthology. It is so comforting to be able to read A Spoonful of Grace in a binge at home or for just a minute in a waiting room. I have begun sharing it with my whole family. I cannot think of a better, comprehensive compilation of verses that express the warmth, humility and compassion (some ...more

This is a great instrument to use when you want to keep the discipline but you don't have much time (or the attention span isn't long). The book presents the information in truly "bite-sized pieces" - a passage from the Scripture, the Grace itself (aka the prayer), and a little devotional note based on the Scripture/prayer.

It is very convenient for families with kids and for those who want to develop a habit of not just saying "God, thank you for this food, amen," but have a more substantial re

My girls and I have been reading through this devotional. I wanted to share it with you because it would be a great devotional for the busy back to school time. I was pleasantly surprised with the depth and insight Annette packed into each day's snippet. Each day holds a scripture segment, a prayer, and some thoughts to ponder. She addresses many things our kids need to hear. It is a good reminder to focus first on the word of God and what he desires for us each day.

We have been reading it at b

There are no excuses for not saying grace before your meals now that Spoonful has made it so easy! What a wonderful way to start off a meal...to thank our God for all of our blessings, and to teach our children and grandchildren in the process. It is quite apparent that Annette has labored over each of these pages to make them easy to read, and easy to understand the scripture associated with it! Thank you so so much, Annette for this wonderful book!

[Note: This book was provided free of charge by the Adams PR Group. All thoughts and opinions are my own.]

When I requested this book based on an e-mail I had received, I somewhat foolishly said that I was willing to be on any part of the blog tour from the book, and so I was given the first day. I suppose I can consider that a lesson learned to avoid in the future. As it happens, I received this book about two weeks before the blog tour began, which is a bit closer than I prefer for such posts,
