I was mostly drawn to this book by how pretty the cover is - I didn't enjoy reading it as much as I expected to!
But it's a really good and straightforward introduction to fantasy as a genre as well as fantasy film, with some excellent bibliography. It covers a wide range of films, though possibly a bit too wide; the chapters are all very short, so no real extended analyses. Might have been better off with fewer shorter chapters.

In 'The Fantasy Film', Katherine Fowkes gives an introduction to fantasy, (and her definition of it), the history of the genre, an intro to criticism of it, and then several of her own analyses on various films. The first three chapters, before the analyses, are fantastic. I have most of the pages underlined and starred all over the place.
