I grew up on a small farm on the outskirts of Sydney and as a keen horse rider, often competed in local gymkhanas and even broke in a few horses from time to time. As I was surrounded by animals, I decided at an early age to become a nurse, however I couldn’t stand the sight of blood and so opted for a career in teaching. It’s a bit ironic that I married a surgeon.

I read my first Mills & Boon novel when I was 17 and that encouraged me to continue reading romance novels; the lure of the tall dark handsome hero, who in reality I fell in love with and knew I was going to marry on our second date! After marrying a year later, we moved to Scotland with our six week old baby so my husband could work and study for his MD in surgery. After the birth of our second son we came back to Australia to settle in Tasmania.

I went back to University and up-graded my teaching diploma to a degree and then went on to do a Masters but still I felt as if something was missing. I sat down one day and began writing and everything clicked into place - I had finally found ‘my brilliant career’! I used to write from instinct rather than a specific plan, but now, so many books later I find a loose plan doesn't go astray. An idea will pop into my head, sometimes it will be just a simple phrase or a what if question and I'm away.

Writing is a skill that can be learned and the best way to learn it is to read and to write. So many people feel they have a novel in them and very probably they are right-the only trick is to get it out. My advice to ‘would be’ writers is to write, write, and write even more. Carry a notebook at all times and jot down ideas. And like any other activity the more you do, the more it feels comfortable.

I hope you enjoy my stories and look forward to hearing from you.

Bakery owner Matilda “Tillie” Toppington (who is 24) has recently been jilted by her ex-boyfriend, Simon (three months ago). She is angry that she wasted so many years of her life on Simon, who ended up having an affair with someone he met online. For the past two weeks a handsome man (Blake McClelland, 34) has been coming into her bakery and ordering Chocolate Éclairs.

description

And he always insists on being waited on by Tillie. One day he makes Tillie an offer. He knows she’s going through a difficult financial period, (word is getting around town), and he offers to take care of her debts if she pretends to be his fiancée for the next month. Blake wants to buy back his ancestral home and the old man who currently owns it (Jim Pendleton) doesn’t want to sell it to a love-them-and-leave-them playboy. Jim Pendleton is friends with Tillie and he thinks the world of her, so who better to become engaged to than Tillie, Blake reckons. Maybe if old Jim thinks Blake is settling down he'll change his mind and sell the house to Blake. Tillie eventually agrees to the engagement. The more time Blake and Tillie spend together, the more attracted they become to each other, and the more they find they have some things in common.

description

This was such a wonderful, sweet, and cute romance! Blake and Tillie were terrific together, they had great chemistry, and I really enjoyed their banter. They were both very warm and likable characters. I also liked Jim’s adorable dog Truffles that Tillie was watching for Jim while he was recuperating from a fall.

description

I liked Tillie, she was a sweet and caring heroine, and Blake was a sexy, considerate, and gorgeous hero!

A very enjoyable read by Melanie Milburne.

Sweet little engagement of convenience story that started out slow and stayed slow, to be honest. Not a lot of conflict. The big conflict was the hero being afraid to commit because he saw how devastated his father was when his mother died.

Both the H/h are lovely people who treat each other well. The heroine is a virgin because her fiance didn't believe in sex before marriage. She put up with him for nine years before he jilted her for someone he met on the internet. Heroine has a bakery and takes care of the local lord of the manor and his cute brown Labradoodle named Truffles. (Truffles steals every scene)

Hero wants to buy the manor because it was his home until he was ten when his mother died. The local lord of the manor (Truffes' owner) won't sell it to him because he's a swinging bachelor. Hence the engagement of convenience.

There are no secret babies, OWs, or horrible arguments. The tone is light throughout. Read when you've had too much angst and need something frothy.

this was a nice, mellow, modern romance by a contemporary M&B author I actually like. MM's books are usually fun to read and this was no exception. Written in the style of SC and PJ pastoral romances, the story featured a small town/village h (Tillie) and a predictable (but still fun) billionaire with commitment issues (Blake). Both protagonists lost their mothers early on and bond over their loss - albeit, in different ways.

The h had been jilted by her ex fiancé at the alter and the H was looking to buy back an old country house that was in his family before his father sold it off. They decide on an 'engagement ruse' that is designed to help budding baker Tillie with her finances and Blake with his need to restore the house to his family. Their chemistry however, is not to be denied and soon they go beyond the terms of their original agreement and end up becoming lovers; both believing it to be a 'no strings attached' kind of a setup and are soon (rather predictably) proved wrong.

Emotions do eventually find their way into this otherwise convenient arrangement and Tillie finds herself wanting 'forever after' with Blake even though she's vehemently denied the same earlier. The H on the other hand, has vowed never to commit following the death of his mother and gives her a hard time about it. And so the story continues, till they reach their requisite HEA.

Here's the thing about 'modern' romance. The only issue/ angst in these stories seem to rely heavily on the H being a strict commitment-phobe. About 80% of the plot seem to revolve around breaking down the (playboy) H's misgivings on marriage. And honestly, I'm a little tired of it. What happened to the Heroes who knew at first glance that the h was the only one for them and then do everything possible to make an honest woman out of her? In contrast, modern Hs are all about seduction without commitment and a refusal to acknowledge love and all it can be. I mean, I don't need a wedding scene at the end or in the epilogues, but a heartfelt declaration of a love that has steadily built over previous chapters make me appreciate romances more. Maybe its a reflection of the times or something, but i personally find these contemporary tales very unsatisfactory (especially when it takes an accidental pregnancy to bring the couple together ala Lynne Graham.) Makes it hard for me to trust that their love is real.

Nonetheless, I enjoyed the book- commitment-phobe H not withstanding. He wasn't cruel or cold like so many other Heroes of HP land and was kind to the h on most occasions. Their chemistry was meh though, and the angst quite low. But still, this read is worthy of the 3 stars I've given it.

the storytelling felt forced and it was super cheesy. I wasn't feeling the chemistry between the hero and heroine. I didn't feel the hero was really into the heroine. I dnf'd on page 74.

This was cute, although nothing unusual. Also the version that I had stopped at 61% and the rest of it was filler and previews for other stories. In terms of time management be aware that it does not seem to actually be 211 pages — it’s more like 183, and even that seems long based on what I read

MS Milburne has such a fabulous writers voice this story is filled with banter that will have you laughing and smiling throughout, I picked this one up and just didn’t want to put it down till it was finished beautifully written it will pull you in make you feel at home with the gorgeous playboy hero Blake McClelland and shy bakery owner Matilda Toppington so sit back and enjoy.

Tillie has been stood up at the alter and is sworn of men forever she is never going to marry, she will stay single and work hard to pay of her debts caused by the marriage and be happy so when Blake starts arriving at her shop daily and insists that she serve him and then drops the bombshell on her that he will make a deal with her to be his fake fiancé for one month Tillie says no but then when the engagement ring he gives her causes her to change her mind her life is upended in such a good way.

Blake is determined to get his ancestral home back for his father his plan includes Tillie being his fake fiancé there is to be no falling in love and defiantly no marriage and although he would like to take her to bed that can be a no as well, although Blake finds himself being drawn to the beautiful, shy but smart Tillie like he has never before been drawn to any woman and soon that pull will give way to bliss.

Tillie and Blake journey a sensual sizzling path to a HEA that will have you smiling there is such joy for them both and add Truffles the dog to the mix as well as the engaging characters from the village makes this a story not to be missed. Both Blake and Tillie have childhoods that had sadness in them and to see them so happy together is such a delight. MS Milburne you rock thank you for another story that is a keeper, I highly recommend this one to anyone who loves a good sensual and fun story.

"The Tycoon's Marriage Deal" by Melanie Milburne gives the reader a classic good girl, and the bad boy executive in need of a wife. After Matilda Toppington was jilted at the altar she is in no hurry to run into the arms of another man. She is content in working at her bakery, until Blake McClelland comes in and starts putting the idea of them being engaged into her head. It's not that he loves her he just wants to get his childhood home back for his father. There is so much more to this story that I just couldn't put the book down.

I just know that I'm in for an incredibly intense, emotional and exceptional story when I pick up a Melanie Milburne story. Fake fiancee theme but with characters that you just love when they're together and the sparks that fly along with the conversation that is awesome!

Blake and Matilda are super awesome and I always have to compliment Melanie on her superb writing which brings the locations, characters and story alive in my mind. There's depth that only exceptional and seasoned writers in this genre can provide and I am loving every second I spent on the book.

Hugely enjoyable!!

This MODERN contained all the ingredients and that make MILLS & BOON[s] so compelling and the down-to-earth feisty heroine in Tillie that the author created reminded me of some of the heroines found in books by the much missed Sara Craven. The author has imbued her story with splashes of humour and it's tinged with a little sadness, however with an author as accomplished as Melanie Milburne the various elements have been measured perfectly to giver her legion of fans a whole satisfactory read!

Superbly written by a great exponent of the genre of romance writing!!

I'm getting out of HPland for a bit. Just because I'm tired of reading about women and men half my age. I'm also finding it hard to read books about men who are just so freaking cruel and the heroine's put up with it.
So I wanted to end with one of my favorite HP stories.
No cruel H. A fiery h who isn't skinny. A dog named Truffles. What's not to love?!

So Tilly owns a bakery in a small English village and was just dumped at the altar by her smarmy fiance who TEXTED her just before the wedding to say he was running off with a woman he'd met on an app (also has slept with said woman, though insisting he and Tilly wait to have sex until their wedding night).
Tilly won me over when she started poking a pin into ex-fiance's cake topper's crotch. I love her.

H, Blake, is a rich businessman who wants to buy back his childhood home. His mother died there when he was 10 and his father was so wrapped up in grief that he lost the house. Blake wants his father to start living again, so he figures buying the house back will help that.
The problem is the current owner, Mr. P, doesn't want to sell to some young playboy bachelor. Tilly currently lives at the house to watch Truffles (Mr. P's dog) and take care of it since Mr. P fell and has to live in a care home.
So Blake offers to pay off the mass of bills owing on Tilly's business (since she had to pay for all the wedding stuff and also sunk money into useless fiance's life) if she'll pretend to be his fiancee for a month. Since Mr. P also cares for Tilly, Blake realizes this will help his cause.
Sexy times and falling in love ensue. Blake has experience, but he isn't constantly bragging or thinking about it. Point there. Tilly and Blake have a sweet relationship.
I admit this book made me think it was safe to wade back into HP waters... which wasn't quite true. But it's good to know for every cruel H out there, there's a book like this.

Pathetically foolish fun fact: the ebook I read mixed up all the chapters and like an idiot I realized it only on 8 out of 10 chapters. Ugh!!! Can I be anymore stupid🤦‍♀️?
Still I loved this sweet story. The protagonists and the characters were exceptionally lovable. Finally a book where I fully understand and accept hero’s trepidation and hesitation about falling in love. Heroine was such a brave sweetheart. I find it refreshing that she was plus-size beauty and hero couldn’t keep his hands off her.
I’ll definitely reread this again in future.
Completely safe and if there is an epilogue in actual book, I haven’t found it in the jumbled mess I read.
Ugh still not over it especially because this turned out to be a good romance.
Recommended.

Temporary temptation turns into forever in the latest from Melanie Milburne! He might sort of blackmail her into helping him, but she's not all that unwilling once she realizes he's actually a nice guy and his reasons are good-hearted. Two lonely and scarred souls find their way towards healing and opening up to more than they ever dreamed of!

Matilda Toppington has sworn off of men, love and happily ever afters since being left standing at the altar by her former fiancee! She's happy just to spend her day baking and living life vicariously through her bakery customers ... until one of those customers throws a snag in her plans!

Blake McClelland will stop at nothing to get what he wants ... even if it means blackmailing the town's sweetheart into pretending to be his fiancee in order to clean up his tarnished reputation. It should only take a month to get the deal he needs closed, and he's willing to make it more than worth her while!

The Tycoon’s Marriage Deal by Melanie Milburne is a delightful story! Blake McClelland is ruthless, he will do whatever it takes to get what he wants and he wants his ancestral home back. The only way to do that is to pretend to be a stable family man otherwise the current owner will refuse to sell it to him! Tilly Toppington, darling of the village, is just what Blade needs to convince everyone that he turned over a new leaf. She is sweet, innocent, takes care of everyone and no one will suspect her of lying. Now it’s just a matter of persuading Tilly to play along!
The story is brilliantly written, you instantly fall in love with the characters. As the story develops, you just keep discovering more endearing qualities and hidden depth. I loved the interplay and dialogue between Blake and Tilly, it seemed very authentic.
I highly recommend this book to all romance lovers.

I love how all the books start out with a premise that most normal comman people would never get involved in, but the stories are fund. I know that is why I read my HEA. Enter Blake who needs a fiance and Matilda who was jilted at the alter in a small town that talks too much about everyones business, but protects its own. One scheme later and the two are on their way to a HEA. Good writing and fun to read.

The Tycoon's Marriage Deal by Melanie Milburne
Wonderfully written and did not want to put it down till I finished it. Thanking the author for her talents.
Blake McClelland had the lifestyle of a rich and ruthless playboy. He had the money to buy back his childhood home but needed one thing to make sure he got the home. He needed a fiancee but one that just would play along till he cinched the deal. No other strings attached.
Matilida Toppington had sworn off men. Her ex-fiancee had kept her at a distance, had never wanted sex till the wedding night and basically told her how to dress and how to act. Big shock when she found out he had someone on the side. Later she was told he was going to also be a dad.
Tillie had a stack of bills and when Blake came along and asked her to be his fiancee for show and provided her with a beautiful diamond engagement ring and paid off her stack of bills. She did not agree right away however she later slipped on the ring and could not get it back off. OMG then she started with testing out if she could really do it.
The story also had Mr. Pendleton who had the house that Blake wanted and actually that was were Tillie lived and took care of his dog Truffles who is a Labrador-poodle. She was house sitting for the elderly owner and taking care of Truffles.
Be prepared to keep reading and having it hold your interest. Will Tillie ever change her mind about me, will Blake change his mind about the future?

All's not perfect in Tillie's confection sweet life. The bills are stacking up and if she doesn't do something about them then she stands a chance of losing something precious to her heart. It has also been three months now since she'd been jilted at the altar but even those long weeks can't make her forget her fiancée’s deceit. What she doesn't know—as yet—is that her life will forever change when Mr. Hot Chocolate Éclair customer returns to her bakery at a time when Tillie thinks she is over men but...things don't always turn out the way we want them to, does it? Something sparks every time this one particular man looks at her. Can she trust her body when it comes to him? Tillie is a tad shock when her hot customer introduces himself. Blake McClelland's his name and her thoughts of him are correct. He's a wealthy playboy. The first time they touch—a simple handshake—it's like 'electrifying as a high-voltage current'. Tillie soon finds out Blake is arrogant, commanding and always gets what he wants and she has every reason to defy him. The drama which unfolds is like a daytime soap opera and keeps you engrossed. Overall, The Tycoon’s Marriage Deal oozed with sensuality and a passionate rhythm which only served to satisfy my reader heart and I think this might be my favorite Melanie Milburne book of all. The story is so perfect and the flawless, expressive writing just comes to life on the page.

Blake McClelland has set himself a mission which is to buy back his family home, so his father can again feel the joy it once held.  Losing his mother has done irreparable damage to his father and him and he believes owning again the home would make everyone happy.   Sounds like a good plan except Mr. Pendleton who now owns McClelland Park doesn't want to sell it to a single man.  So Blake encourages Tillie who runs a bakery he goes to often, to fake an engagement to him as she is such good friends with mr. Pendleton.  In return he offers to pay off her debts and all she has to do is pretend.  Pretend is tough for Tillie who was left at the altar and is still hurting. What happens when this make believe become so real to Tillie?  Can these two people find the happiness that has eluded them? Ms. Milburne always writes incredible stories and again she wraps you in this lovely book and you find yourself wishing both Blake and Tillie the happiness that has passed them by.  Loved it and a definite keeper.

It was a sweet story, funny at times, angst barely there. The characters were lovely. Loved Blake and Tillie, Mr. Pendleton and all secondary characters. However, after the engagement, I felt the story slip toward boring. All they did was have sex and talk about their families and their past. But, Blake and Tillie were fantastic from the start to the finish. Never at any point did I dislike either of them.

Cute read, but didn’t feel like an HP.

Current HPs have way more sexuality and angst to them. This one felt very nice. MM is a great, capable writer but this could have fit into other category line. The angst, drama and glamour was missing from this one.

Tillie and Blake were very cute towards the end, but for a short novel it took a while to get to the HEA.

This was OK.

I wasn't that bothered by it, not really because its bad but just its not something I haven't read as a story line before by M&B and that can get a little boring. The characters are OK and I'm not mad at reading this it just won't be a book I actually keep.
