Thanks to the @kidlitexchange network for the review copy of this book - all opinions are my own.

There are so many pieces to this wonderful book! First off, the illustrations, by Carrie Schuler, are top notch. She captures so many emotions and concepts beautifully and it all feels so fresh. The story touches on a variety of topics from finding your passion to sharing your personal gifts with others. Young Leo doesn't know what his gift is, but all children are encouraged to figure out their own

Not necessarily a quick bedtime read, this story has more to it. We meet Leo, a shy little guy who watches his older sister Meredith during her piano lessons. Meredith would much rather be playing outside than practicing piano, but Leo asks her about playing. She gives him the first keys and from there his love of music blossoms. As it turns out, Leo has a natural musical talent that may never have been discovered if he hadn't been given the opportunity!

It makes you wonder about some children i

This is a charming book about discovering your gifts in life. The delightful artwork perfectly illustrated the text on every page, and the expressions on Leo’s and Meredith’s faces when they began to realize what their gifts truly were were a special treat. As Mr. Alonzo explained, “Leo, everyone has a special gift. It’s like a treasure we carry inside, a treasure we need to practice

Oh, the gift. That special thing that flows with ease and fills all the cracks and crevices of our lives with joy! For Meredith, it’s basketball that fills her mind and interest while she hammers out her tunes in piano practice. But, for Leo, it’s the sweet sound of music that fills his heart as he quietly sits in the shadows listening to his sister play. The piano soon gives him a voice, helps his confidence soar, and propels him to embrace the treasure inside him and share it with the world. A ...more

Leo's Gift is a charming, inspiring book for children of all ages searching for their gift. The illustrations are nothing short of magical, my favorites being the images of the kitchen with just a hint of a recipe on the cupboards, the frame of the house with a suggestion of information about birds and the slight shadow of musical notes that grace the piano when Leo discovers his gift.
Leo's Gift is a gift to all of us.

I received this book through the Kid Lit Exchange. All opinions are my own.

I loved reading about Leo, a boy with perfect pitch who secretly practices when his mom thinks his sister is the one playing piano! The characters in the story are caring and vibrant. The pictures are whimsical and artful, and the story is engaging for young readers. A great book for second grade!

Love this book.
Practice is a chore unless you love it. This is especially true if you have a "gift." Oh, and everyone has one.

It might be a little over the head of most kids, but still an important message.

Love the message and the story is adorable for all little musicians! It’s a little bit text heavy, but still adorable!

Leo’s Gift is the story of a young boy who has the talent of playing the piano by ear. Leo’s big sister, Meredith, is forced to practice piano for 30 minutes every night when one day she discover’s Leo’s talent. She would prefer to play basketball, but clearly Leo would love to learn all about music. Leo happens to meet Mr. Alonzo, the music teacher, while he’s waiting for Meredith to get out of basketball practice. Like many of us, Leo wonders what his own gift or talent might be. He watches his older sister, Meredith, as she practices on her piano--very reluctantly!--and even takes her place while rehearsing at home once she shows him how the keys and notes on the music sheets work. It's clear that Meredith would rather be playing basketball and that Leo has musical talent. When Mr. Alonzo, the school music teacher, decides to mentor Leo while he's waiting for his sister at basketball practice, Leo keeps ...more

I received this book from #kidlitexchange to read in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own. 🌟🌟🌟🌟 Leo's Gift by Susan Blackaby and Joellyn Cicciarelli is a wonderfully written story of Leo and his sister Meredith.
