I defy you to pick up this book, flip through the pictures and not walk away feeling happier than you were before you opened it!
I happened upon this, luckily, during the first of many visits to the local bookstore in the month of December. I have enjoyed this book of happiness on every subsequent visit. A simple gem. The love this man feels for his very unique dog oozes from every page. 5 stars.
This book was a Christmas present from my son. I received it yesterday - Christmas Day - and I have already read it twice. Okay, not read it, but absorbed it. I have also delighted in it, laughed and smiled and, yes, teared up a little, too. I follow Theron Humphrey and Maddie on Instagram (@thiswildidea) and I now have another angle into their very special relationship. Theron Humphrey relates the very touching story of how he met Maddie early on. His pictures and his philosophy on life - being in the moment, letting go of anger, absorbing all that nature has to offer - are inspiring. Whenever I am feeling down I look at his Instagram account and immediately I begin to feel better and to think positively. If you know someone who loves dogs, "Maddie Lounging on Things" is highly recommended. The cover? I always talk covers. It's gorgeous. Although I think they could have used any one of the lovely photographs and I would have said I loved it.
Okay, this isn't a traditional book. It's a collection of photos of Maddie the dog literally laying on different things and in different positions. The author traveled the country taking photos so most of the photos are only labeled with a location. There are some more detailed descriptions sprinkled throughout. But... if you love dogs and their funny antics... and you love seeing another person's sweet relationship with their dog, then this book will make you laugh and maybe even tear up a little. It is sooo sweet and funny and I finished it wishing that Maddie was mine. I love dogs so it was easy to love this book. Definitely recommend.
This is a sweet little book. It's not much more than a picture book but, if you're fans of Maddie and her owner, Theron Humphrey, on Instagram, you'll enjoy a pleasant hour flipping through lovely photos of her chilling out all over North America - sometimes with humans, and sometimes just on her own. I bought it because after all the enjoyment these two have given me over the years on-line, it seemed like the least I could do was give something back to them by purchasing a copy (and I got even more enjoyment out of it so I think I came out ahead).
This was super cute. Not necessarily the most informative book, but it was fun to thumb through. Maddie is very, very cute. I also really enjoyed the landscapes, the glimpses into another's world. There are wide-flung locales like Denmark and South Dakota, all hinged on Maddie.
In the age of Cute-Pictures-on-the-Internet, it's nice to see books like this still flourishing. Though, I don't know that I'll necessarily feel the need to read this one again. All in all, just adorable.
Part of the Substitute Parent Project. The girls didn't even take a second look (a first?) but I love this book. It feels... peaceful. You get a sense of the genuine emotion between Maddie and the humans that love her. I mean some shots are just plain silly but many catch me off guard with their bliss in the now. The outdoor shots are particularly lovely. If I had a coffee table, I'd put this on it.
Another adorable collection of photos. Maddie isn't flat out asleep in all of them, but she's very much resting and *being* where she is, content in the space she's in with the people she's with. In the intro the author mentions that Maddie has taught him to find the happiness of being in a moment no matter where, when or with whom, and that theme is strong in these photos.
If you love cute dog pictures, this is the book for you! I wish the author would have included a little more text describing his adventures with Maddie, but the little bit he tells you about her adoption, etc. is heartwarming. A sweet ode to the crazy places dog sleep!
If you love dogs, it's impossible not to smile when you flip through the pages of this book. And the story of how the author met Maddie melted my heart.
Just enjoyed this book for the third time. It just feels so nice and calming to look at the beautiful pictures and feel Maddies love for lounging. One of my all-time favourites!!
