I am never one to like being told in the description of a book that seems to promise “a fast paced supernatural thriller filled with intense action, entertaining characters, and terrifying beasts. This urban fantasy will keep you engrossed all the way to the last page.”

Well I can’t say it honestly delivered its promise. But for the most part it did however which is why I rated it five stars. This felt more of a coming of age story for José in the strange world he now finds himself i

I'm usually an epic/military fantasy reader, but recently found the urbane fantasy genre and have been enjoying it more and more. Jeff's depiction of Baltimore is spot-on. Jeff did it again. Once I got into the book, I couldn’t put it down. As in his first book of this series it started slow but finished up strong. It is an exciting tale of good vs evil. Jeff is a very talented writer who will go places.

I really like this authors style, it is easy to read, the story flows well and the characters are really likeable and believable. This is a really good prequel to Mencken and the Monsters. Another good read.

The Baltimore references are fantastic! The story is great and I loved seeing Jose mature throughout the book. There are points of laughter and sadness. Overall a great read!
