As with so many others who read/watch Attack on Titan, Levi is my favorite character. I'm somewhat disappointed in this because it doesn't seem to give us any new insight to why he is the way he is. For example, from the regular series and anime, we know he likes cleanliness. This "background" story could have given us a why he is a neat freak, but instead just makes the point again that he is. Plus, we really do not see him as a criminal at all in this story even though that's the background we know of. It just seems shallow. I think what I want is a background story that follows his time with Kenny and then shows more of his interactions with Erwin on how he got sold to the cause and became loyal to him. That all being said, the artwork is really good and I still enjoyed it. I just wanted more.

i loved it! the colored edition is just so beautiful. plus levi is there, so i kinda lose my objectivity. i truly enjoyed the bonus stories!
update: i just realized i didn't mention something important.important for me, at least. i think the manga was a lot better than the anime. and i loved the anime. but the manga was so much better. i highly recommend it.

Safe to say, Levi quickly became one of my favorite characters of the series, maybe even one of my favorite anime characters ever.
I feel like this series is a case of where we have a main character who's the star of the story and yet we have a side character who completely steals the show and most of the fandom's hearts. And when we have such a character, we wanna know more of his/her background. How they came to be. Where they came from. Their life before we met them.
And this collection answered some questions about Levi, and also his relationship with Erwin that I always quite enjoyed.
If you're a Levi fan, I think you'll definitely enjoy this story

Loved the art and the extra posters in this beautiful edition. Levi is my absolute favourite AoT character and probably one of my favourite male characters overall. So I enjoyed learning more about how he joined Survey Corps and the goofy extra stories. I wish there was a bit more about his live in the Underworld and some more Levi/Erwin interaction. Nevertheless I am happy with the story and the goofy extra stories were super nice to read.

I'm trash for this series so of course this was another 5*, but I was surprised by how different this was to the anime adaptation. The adaptation is more cohesive, and also obviously way more dramatic what with the music and the ODM gear action in motion (the Levi Erwin meet-cute is also superior), but here you get more time to breathe with the characters and their motivations. Furlan in particular is more drawn out as a character, and Isabel feels a bit more rounded, too. Levi's decision to commit to the scouts is far more believable; you see him fall for the cause more gradually, and Erwin's speech to him at the end is more convincing. At the same time the manga ends more suddenly than the anime, so I'm just going to add on the anime's final scene in my head to tie the story off nicely with a bow.
The manga definitely has more of a comedic edge, especially when you take the prologue shorts into account. I'd say the anime adaptation feels more true to the rest of the series, but there's something quite refreshing about the change of tone here. (Also, I love AoT when it's light-hearted, it's good for my soul.) (Not that this whole manga is light-hearted, of course, people still get violently eaten by titans.)
Basically if you really enjoyed the Levi backstory OVAs and wanted more, this is great, and if you really liked this but want more, watch the OVA adaptation. They both tell the same story but what's lacking from one, you'll find in the other, so they complement each other really well.

I didn't dislike this manga by any means, I just felt like it was unneccesary. Nothing was learned from this. I didn't learn anything new about any of the characters or the world. While I did like the new characters, I don't really feel like they had a purpose, aside from just beefing up the story. I technically learned about how Levi joined the survey corps, but nothing about him as a character. There is no new insight on who he used to be and how his past has shaped him. Everything learned about Levi character-wise was already addressed in the original series. The bright side about this manga, though, was the artwork. I thought the art was beautiful and I'm so happy that I decided to splurge and get the colored copy.

Heartbreaking and wonderful! I loved both the main story and the shorter ones that followed after. They made the loss a lot more powerful.
Recommended to all the Shingeki no Kyojin fans, and Levi fans in particular.

I really loved this prequel to AOT, which follows Levi during some of his time in the Underground, along with his friends Isabel and Furlan.
Levi's a complex character, and I really enjoyed learning about some of his backstory and the events that helped shape him into the character we know later down the line. The artwork was amazing as per usual, and the colour edition was fantastic, bringing more pop to the pages. It wasn't overly informative in terms of his childhood or anything, but seeing the pivotal point where he joined the Survey Corps and realised that he's just got to make the most of the life handed to him...it was great!
Isayama always knows how to add emotions and heart wrenching scenes into his manga, and this one was no different. I enjoyed the bonus stories at the end too, giving us short insights to the everyday activities Levi, Isabel and Furlan got up to- I particularly liked the one with the arm wrestle and tea.
Overall, I'd definitely recommend this for fans of Levi (such as myself, obviously) or anyone who's needing more from AOT.

No había reseñado este manga pero me parece de las mejores OVAs de SNK. Refuerza el personaje de Levi desarrollando hechos importantes que lo hacen ser el personaje que conocemos actualmente.
Esta versión a color, a pesar de estar disponible solamente en inglés, sigue mereciendo la pena. La lectura al ser en formato manga es sencilla y muy ágil, así que no es ningún problema para quien quiera adquirirlo en esta edición.

Levi es un personje qué realmente me gusta y mientras más lo conozco, más me gusta.
Esperaba más de esta historia, pero no me canso de decir que Attack on Titan tiene una de las mejores tramas que he visto y las escenas de acción, son otra cosa. Además el trabajo artístico en este tomo, merece 5/5.

No character will ever top Levi for me. Such a good prequel, although expected nothing less from the AOT universe! Now off to watch the Ova :)

March 17, 2022I have conflicting feelings about this manga, for one, I really liked it but, at the same time, there are things that I liked better in the OVA No Regrets and that I expected to be here.
The story really is different in the OVA, still, it connects really well with the tv series overall.
About the OVA and this manga: I love both for different reasons, and there are scenes in this manga that I would’ve also really liked to see animated, but they are both great!
