I really enjoyed Misha Blaise's "This Is Texas, Y'All!: The Lone Star State from A to Z" and found it to be quite a pleasant surprise. It is a hard bound book, attractive, and extremely colorful. I thought the illustrations were just too cute; the colors were really vivid! It is a great addition to a children's collection, especially for children who like learning as they read (it would make a fine addition to a kid's reference library), and it is a fun book for adults as well, especially those who may be planning on visiting, or have visited, Texas. I greatly enjoyed it, especially the artwork.
My copy was obtained from a Goodreads giveaway and I appreciate the opportunity to read and review it. I would recommend it mostly for children, but believe adults can have fun with it as well. I'd personally rate it 4.85.

I definitely learned some really interesting facts that I hadn’t considered, especially about race and religion. Super cool and the drawings were very cute!

#TexasStrong if you want to learn a little bit of Texas trivia then This is Texas, Y’all! The Lone Star State from A to Z by Misha Maynerick Blaise is a pretty good place to start.

The author tells a lot about Texas history and all things Texas. She gets most of it right. The only two things we see where she may be wrong are both food related.

Texans can be very opinionated and fanatic about a lot of things like football. However, when it gets down to barbeque and chili, there are many opinions about what is real Texas and what isn’t.

For some, chili is not chili without beans. It has been pointed out that chili without beans is chili sauce and that chili does not have to contain meat. That is why we have the term Chili Con Carne.

Some would argue that barbecue without sauce is not barbeque. Some would argue over mustard-based sauce versus ketchup-based sauce, etc. The only real consensus we have found over barbeque is that it is slow roasted meat. One does not barbeque steaks, hamburgers, or hotdogs. You grill those.

With those two things being the only places we disagree with this author, we must say that This is Texas, Y’all! captures most of what is truly Texas.

This book is well-researched and very well-written. The illustrations are colorful and cute. We give it all five stars. This would make a great gift for that wannabe Texan on your Christmas list.

When I say this book available on NetGalley, I has stoic to about getting a chance to read and learn some history on The Lone Star State. I enjoy reading factual books every so often and this was a fun book to read. I enjoyed some of the fun and quirky historical facts as well as the more serious facts. I do have to say I learn some insterested things while reading this book.

For me it was more of a quick escape from the normal books I read and I am glad I gave this book a chance.

The only thing that is keeping me from giving this book a higher rating, is the difficulty I had following the book. I'm not sure if it was the kindle format that made it hard to follow or if it was the way the book was written. But there were times when the writing didn't makes since and didn't seem to be in order. At times I would be reading and have no clue what the author was to convey or what topic she was talking about.

Even so, this was a fun read and I do greatly appreciate the opportunity to read this book. :)

Thank you to Misha Blaise, Rowman & Littlefield, and Lone Star Press for the privilege to read This is Texas, Y'All!: The Lone Star State from A to Z early released for an honest review;

As a born and bred Texan, I could not help reaching for this book when it came up available.

I find myself very much at a crossroads about this book. I think I went into this book expecting very little (perhaps, more like a kid's book based on the outside), and yet came out of it feeling unsatisfied as thought with my changed perception of what it was, like I hadn't gotten enough out of it that could have been done with it.

The books is designed by alphabetical points to tell you all about Texas, with historical references/records, quotes, lyrics, and art. I was confused a number of times how certain pieces ended up under the letters they were chosen for. Also, it seemed unhelpful to have them all pushed back to back, instead of having a line, space, or perhaps a drawing between different facts or ideas encased in each of the letters.

Misha Blaise, you are an absolute joy! I chose this title to review, as I am a native Texan, and as you will learn in this perfect piece of Texas History, Texans are a bit fanatical about all things Texas!! I was utterly enthralled by this work and I learned so much! I may have even squealed when I got to Tyler and our Roses! (Again, that Texas pride runs deep!) It would remiss of me to not mention - nay; gush over, Misha's illustrations! She is a true, authentic talent and her illustrations bring such life to her words! I cannot wait to for October! I will be giving a copy of This is Texas, Y'all! to family and friends for Christmas! What a treasure!

I'm a born and raised Texan who clearly doesn't know as much about her state as she thought! This is an incredibly interesting book, full of facts worthwhile for absolutely anyone from Texas, living in Texas, or curious about Texas. The illustrations are a great addition that makes it all the more fun. While it isn't exactly a children's book, but more a simply trivia book, I would definitely recommend it!

I won this book from a Goodreads giveaway and I was so excited because although I'm not a native Texan, I feel a bit like an honorary one, as my dad lived there for 17 years!

I loved learning more about the Lone Star state from A-Z. All of the facts were interesting, some funny and some informative. I like seeing some things I knew and some places I've been! The illustrations were also super cute.

My dad and step-mom now live back here in Canada but I know they miss Texas, so I'm going to pass the book on to them to enjoy as well!

An interesting Texas alphabet book. It is full of info bits arranged by the alphabet, about the biggest state of the union. There is graphics on how a cow is divided for meat, how to dress like a cowboy etc. Overall it’s not bad. I personally do not care for the illustrations, but kids using it as a travel guide will get a kick out of it’s information.

If you’re from Texas, new to Texas or just curious about it then you MUST get this book. It would also be perfect for the classroom or library as a fun resource. There’s also lots of quotes from those well-known or deeply connected to Texas sprinkled throughout.

Despite the fact the author isn’t from Texas and was raised up north she managed to put together an amazing book that should make Texans proud.

It’s an A to Z outline of all things Texas with fun illustrations, quirky facts, interesting bits on the culture and historical data to teach even long time Texans a thing or two. It was fun to learn how many of the ‘pure’ Texas icons actually had their originations from across the world. Brahman cattle originated in India, the first settlement was established by people from the Canary Islands and would become San Antonio, the Crape Myrtle came from China, a sailing ship in a Galveston museum was built in Scotland and so much more.

Blaise seems to have taken great pains to show the wide diversity in the history of the Lone Star State as well as how that has continued through the modern era. Sources were provided so you can do further research on your own.

By the end you’ll be craving a glass of sweet tea to go with your BBQ.
