I really enjoyed reading this anthology as a young adult, and I can still remember some of the short stories to this day. In fact, I want to grab a copy of the book right now and, by reading it, take myself back to a different time.

I was introduced to this book, as likely many West Coast Canadians were, as a high school reader. It is an excellent little anthology, and this book in combination with an excellent teacher, opened my eyes to the possibility of writing as more than entertainment, but as a method of reflection and social commentary. So, my rating may be biased high because of my youthful associations with it.

I read this anthology originally in junior high in the 90s. It was already 20 years old by then. Many of the stories I read then have continued to stick with me even now into my 40s. Particularly The Cask of Amontillado.

Interesting stories though probably would have enjoyed more were I in the target audience (teenage years).

This was the anthology of stories we returned to most in the last few years of elementary school, and I read most the ones we didn't read in class on my own because I liked it so much. Probably my all-time favourite textbook, and one of the few I remember most of the class enjoying!
