The quest for revenge can be a hard road, but Veda Vandyke never imagined it would be as hard as this. She’d cleared every hurdle in her path, but when she finds herself in mortal danger, her crusade for vengeance isn’t the only thing she stands to lose forever.
As the huntress becomes the hunted, she’ll quickly learn that retribution always comes at a price.
And that price could be her life.
It’s a price Gage Blackwater and Detective Lincoln Hill aren’t willing to pay. When Veda comes up missing, the two foes must cast aside their differences and put their heads together—in a race against the clock—to save the only woman on Earth with the power to bring the two of them together.

PULSE is an interracial novel. Triggering elements. Strong sexual content. Strong language. This story ends in a cliffhanger. The Revenge Series is written to unfold over multiple volumes.
Book 1: Quiver Book 2: Tingle Book 3: Purr Book 4: Yearn Book 5: Pulse Book 6: coming soon Book 7: coming soon
I'm fascinated by deeply flawed people in impossible situations, and insane people who don't know they're insane. Perfection puzzles me, so my characters are always just a little bit evil--whether they know it or not!
If you haven't read books 1 through 4 you should skip this review.
This story had everything ... more Linc and Veda and Gage. More Jake, angst and a story line that was more than about Veda exacting her revenge AND another heart-stopping great cliffhanger.
In the meantime, here are a couple of my favorite quotes:
“She’s staying with me,” Jake spoke from the foot of the bed—his voice several levels softer than the two men spitting venom at each other with their eyes—attempting to defuse the situation. “I’m the only one who won’t try to feel her up during her recovery.”
Jake winked. “Yep. Nothing but lacy bras, panties, handcuffs, and lube. Something tells me you’ll be putting them all to very good use.” Veda groaned. “I want you to be joking, but I know you aren’t. I’m going to open this bag and find nothing but crotchless panties and anal beads looking back at me. How many times do I have to say that Linc and I are just friends?”
And.... I don't even know! But I think I'm back with the #unpopularopinion that this wasn't my favorite out of the series.
A lot of loose ends come together in this book. Nothing huge huge that jumped out at my heart that's coming to mind right now. But there was a lot of emotional things. Lots of twists and cute or funny scenes. Mannnnnn I was living for the banter and cute scenes!
I'll maybe insert one later.
Much much more Linc and Veda action (uhh.. THANK GOD??!). And that made me so so so happy. And it just hit me every time I read about Gage that, well... I need him to go bye-bye lol. I'm sorry but my Gage&Veda heart is sailing very quickly and my Linc&Veda is TAKING OVER. And it's not playing.
I felt a lot of frustration in this book. Whether with Veda. Veda and Gage. Situations. Veda's actions. Idk. But there was indeed frustration. And for that reason I had to knock off a star. It was just... not all of what I expected.
I'm kinda having flashbacks to when I read Catching Fire years and years and years ago and I felt on top of the world reading that book and finishing (aka #4 in Trevion's series) and then I read mockingjay (#5 in the series. This book.) and it was... kinda just there. That's how I feel right now lol. Let down.
I didn't love this book. Didn't hate it. This review sucks in all honesty lol. And I think it's because I'm so void of emotion right now.
KNOW WHAT I AM FEELING THOUGH? I'M FEELING A LOT FOR MY LINC. MY LINCOLN... ugh.. he deserves rainbows and sunshines in my book. APPARENTLY TREVION BURNS DOES NOT AGREE!!!! So I'm going to continue to pout in the corner until she changes her mind.
Moving on.... I will still definitely invest my time in waiting for Trevion's release of #6 in the series! No doubt. Not giving up on ya, Burns! Maybe this will just happen to me on every other book of this series continuously... meaning I'll love the next one in the series more than life! Woo!
Finally getting somewhere with everything. I am a Linc fan. I like Linc he's just my type of guy. Wish Veda would see it my way too. This book was great best by far to me because it answered a lot of questions. Now I have to wait for number 6. I'm glad we also got to see more of Linc.
Throwing out my thoughts here just to let it be known. Linc and Gage are brothers. Gage father is Veda"s number 10 it explains a lot of what's going on too me anyways. That's my thoughts on it anyways.
Stop the train I want to get off-no! I am lying I would not want to even if I could. This series gets better and better every new installment. Even though I figured out one villian’s secrets and knew they were bad news in book 4 it took nothing away from this exciting read. Seriously my heart is still racing! I love and hate Veda with a passion- she needs to grow up! I know she has demons but I want her to get therapy and be happy but I can’t lie she draws you in with her angst and vunerability as well as the need to maim those that hurt her. I love Linc and I love Gage-I like Veda am attracted to both. I just can’t figure out where and how this will end and if Veda will even get a shot at a happy ending without destroying everyone and everything that she loves. The ride is long, winding and weird but I am in for the long haul and addicted.
As I've said through all the books in this series. The angst I get when reading this drama has my stomach in a knot. I know that's the mark of a good writer, to get the reader emotionally invested in the story, but enough is enough. I'm ready to read the finale of this series. I'm ready for Gage and Veda to either have their HEA or not. How much disappointment can this couple take. I'm ready for Linc to either find his wife Lisa or find his own HEA.
This story was well written where the lead characters are complicated beings fighting their own personal demons, and the storyline attention grabbing.
The storyline is good, but I feel like the story is being dragged along maybe because I am impatient and wants to know what happened.I hate the fact that I have to wait another month are however long the Author decides to release the next book just to fine out what happens next and then another cliffhanger, so for that reason is why I am rating it a 3.5.
Poor Linc! Poured his heart out but the feelings weren’t returned in the way he wanted it. It’s like I’m reading another Edward, Bella and Jacob moment but with the humanly twist lol. I stand by Team Gage and Veda tho. Nevertheless I was omg-ing at the end.. I’m not gonna spill the bean you’d have to read to experience it. Now I’m unto book 6
So here we have book 5 in the saga and this one focused more on Linc, which I didn't mind, not at all (I think I've probably fallen in love with him, but that's a different story for another day) and the sex trafficking ring that's been happening in Shadow Rock for ages.
The beginning was fast-paced, heart stopping, vultures devouring my belly. In fact there were lots of scenes where I was squirming because of nerves. I kind of expected Veda to be missing for a few chapters, but I was glad that Linc was able to halt her kidnapping before she was disappeared for good or had to suffer the fate of so many other people on that island.
Her relationships with Gage and Linc leave me torn because they both love her, but her heart is truly with Gage, even though she does have a special connection with Linc. He's really good to Veda, is willing to let go of his missing wife for her, but on the flip side, arresting Veda would make his career, though he doesn't know it, so it's a double edged sword. The woman he loves is also the woman he's hell bent on arresting in order to become sergeant. That's a tough titty right there.
Veda got to exercise some 007 skills, which I was nervous for her the whole time. But of course she was successful. Maybe. It's yet to be determined.
I was also surprised when one of the major players in the sex trafficking ring was brought down and arrested. Someone, who in the last book I was feeling sorry for, only to find out her hands are just as filthy dirty as her husband's, worse even. I think its safe to say that a vast majority of the people on that island are criminals.
I still hate Gage's parents. And if he doesn't work fast to find something truly incriminating on them, looks like he'll be marrying a chick he doesn't love, and how long before his parents start demanding heirs??
Now that ending, oh boy I need book 6 now. I need to know what the forensics guy found on the grape sucker that was so interesting since I know who the sucker belonged to. I need to know if Veda's warpath to revenge is truly over now that she is right on the edge of being busted, or will another hail Mary pass be thrown and deliver her from capture. Come on, book 6 I need deets!
This story just keeps getting better and better. Sad that Linc fell for Veda but sometimes it happens. Cannot wait to see what happens next. Will Veda get her revenge or will Linc arrest his friend. The missing girls is another interesting twist a whole lot seems to happen on this small town.
Considering the stakes, the risks taken by Vega aren't calculating enough. Plotting in a public location, confessing to crimes in the home of a detective on your trail, living in the home of the detective, using the same stitch pattern, selecting victims in order (not varying your M.O.) are careless moves.
Why rob Vega and Gage of one night of joy to celebrate their pregnancy? It would have had the same dramatic impact if she was kidnapped the next day, week, or month later.
Why would Linc and Sam allow Gideon to enter his home?
Why put Zena on speakerphone, when there is a chance that someone in the precinct can on the payroll or a part of the trafficking?
Gage is my first fictional crush and first interracial crush. Thank you Ms. Burns.
Yup, definitely better and better... I am not a patient person, therefore, Trevion Burns you are killing me. Linc, I am in love with you, too bad Veda belongs to someone else, I happen to like Gage, even though his upbringing made him a man-child with retaliation that's kind like a tantrum. Gee, he was so petty!! But, when you are hurting... You have to channel the pain somewhere. Linc knows who the Chopper is, HE WON'T ADMIT T, but deep down HE KNOWS. WHO IS THE TENTH RAPIST?! COME ON!! Anyway, I'm loving it!!
Definitely getting intense now! Lots of twist and dips but I am encouraged,.. I am glad that I waited for the series to be completed b/c " I Hate Cliffhanger's! 😬 So, moving right along, can't wait to see how Veda gets out of this mess. And,,, there has to be something better or there for Det. Hill...... Please......
This follow-up had me on tenterhook all the way through the entire volume, I could not put it down. I read this book sometime ago, just forgot to write a review as I was too impatient; I had to read the next sequel. Loved, loved the storytelling. It was cleanly and with precision, written in fine form and detailed.
Oh boy. I thought sure Veda was going to get caught in this one, and she endured a lot this time around. I knew that doctor they found out about was up to no good early on though. Anyway, on to the next installment. I'm enjoying the series but the edge of your seat pace is making me anxious for it to be over!
Holy #%$# what an ending! I swear if I could give 10+ ⭐️ I would cause each book gets better and better. This book focused more on the disappearing girls so took a different unbelievable turn with Linc wanting to find out who’s behind Veda’s kidnapping. Each book has me on the edge of my seat wondering how she’s going to get away with it. Biting my finger nails.
Pulse escalates everything. The danger is unavoidable, and Veda’s life is literally in the balance. The action is tight, the suspense hits hard, and the emotional stakes finally explode.
This book pushes Veda to her breaking point, and it works. The fear feels real, the relationships matter, and the payoff hits.
Is story continues to drag on. Veda didn't even get to number 5 until the last few pages. Lincoln is beyond obsessed with Veda and it is a bit ridiculous . Veda is not being careful and making foolish mistakes. Gage is crazy to think that his plan will work.
Veda suffers through heartbreak after losing someone she didn't know sher wanted. Veda's need for vengeance remains strong as she moves to handle perp #5. But has her luck ran out? Will she be able to finish her list of ten. Can't wait to find out.
Man. Burns is so good. This book is great. This book really gives you everything. You have drama, suspense, mystery, thriller, romance, erotica, taboo, etc. I love it, it reads like a television show, in the best way. I cannot wait to continue.
I normally don't like cliffhangers , but I can't get enough of this series I read each book the day it comes out. I have yet to be disappointed.great work
Great Read. I can't say much without giving away the plot, so I'll leave it at entertaining from start to finish and can't wait for the next installment.
What can I say? We all know this isn't the end for Veda just like we know it's not the end for Rick, Carl, Michelle, Maggie, Tomita, Eugene, Sasha and the rest of Alenadria, the Hilltop and the Kingdom, TWD reference. I LOVE these two alpha males and the deep love they have for my girl Veda. So incredibly sad Veda and Gage lost the baby. The secrets in this town areas site and run so deep that Ms. Burns could keep writing and simply turn this into a full fledged series with Veda, and Linc as the main characters while we look deeper into the lives and happenings of this fictional town, so many secrets, so many lies, so many possibilties Mrs Burns. I for one am a hardcore fan and you my friend are an excellent writer, I eagerly await your next books but I cringe in pain and severe depression as I realise that each new release of this series simply means it's getting close to number 10. I cant help but wonder if the only way for Veda and Linc to be together is if Gage mu sweetheart dies,, which i think can be a possibility, i think Gage may bite off more than he can chew it will cost him his life, i hope not but i just dont see an end to this love triangle unless Gage dies. Veda woyld be torn with grief, God only knows what she would do then. Probably target all the rich, elite and corrupt in Shadow rock, perfect segway for a spin-off. I do believe you can do some spin-off how about letting Veda secretly study for a PI license at the end of book 10 so we can see our badass Veda legally pursue and capture the bad guys and girls. I strongly believe this does not have to end at book 10 Ms Burns, it truly doesn't!!!!
....but that's just my opinion. Ms. Burns, you've added ANOTHER exciting, heart pounding, suspense driven, excellent book to the Revenge series. I don't even know how I am able to write this review cause my heart is in my throat and bout to choke me beating so fast from knowing Linc is bout to find out, which I believe he has suspected all along, that The Chopper is Veda. Wonder what he gonna do? I mean the man just poured out his feelings to her. Will he really arrest her? As bad as he wants the Chopper this IS Veda y'all. OMG, OMG, OMG!!!!! Book five had a lot of "too close to calls" too: Veda nearly kidnapped; almost losing HER and her baby; msg from Gage that nearly ended him and Veda for good; the DNA swaps; Linc almost losing his job etc... Not to keen on Gage's plan either. Guess we'll just have to see how good he can play detective. As always Jake was a riot and Hope just became even more "my gurl" for steppin up for Veda. How soon is book six? I know I'm gonna be stalking.....
Literally this book is LIFE for me, I'm following the series and I swear this woman has my heart on a hook. I cannot wait for the next update my heart is literally beating out of my chest... Can you please get something out quick because I don't think I can take this anxiety. This literally has me going on a rollercoaster coaster, I'm up I'm down I'm happy I'm sad. You won't regret reading this.
