It wasn’t until Cameron that I knew what real darkness was…or that I’d crave it so much.

I’ve let the world weigh down on me, pull me under until nothing makes sense anymore. Maybe that’s how I let myself get into this mess. Maybe that’s how I’m in my current situation with a man I knew could save me from a fate worse than death. Even if being with Cameron, giving him the

descriptionThis cover is a pretty good representation of the hero. The composition is fairly good. The typography is OK. The title itself is good, but I would have made the authors name and the bylines slightly smaller in width. I also would have removed the gray from behind the title as I find it a bit distracting. Overall though one of the better covers I have seen.description

descriptionI enjoyed this one a lot. From the trigger warnings I expected this one to be heavy on the dark content, but honestly, it really wasn't. Wha

It's so hard to find "dark" themed books that are safe! So I'm so happy that this is another one of those rare books!

-100% safe read
-dark themed, not your sweet love story

-No ow/drama
-absolute no mention of H's past sexual history ( but obviously not a virgin)
-H NOT a man whore
-H stalker/ obsessed/ possessive of h
-slight S&M themed, more about dominant and submissive than anything
-both characters are broken from life
- definitely not you sweet and lovi

This is the book of Cameron and Sofia.
Our heroine Sofia is a destitute, down on luck, depressed young woman who has reached the end of the Patience with life. She spends time dancing in clubs to feel alive. When one such meeting leads to a perv almost raping her, a dark shadow rescues her.
Soon she is robbed, and down on finances she takes money from a bad mob- only to almost get molested again. She's saved from her crappy life by the dark mafia Cameron, who offers her comforts and security in li

I had some high expectations going in when I started this book. I have never read anything by Jenika before but I was told from trusted people that she writes some really good books. Well, they must not have read this book because I was totally disappointed to say the least. I couldn't even finish this book.

The blurb drew me in - I enjoy a good, dark read that keeps me in suspense. However, the way this book was written, I struggled to get through it. What should have probably taken me h

So depressing in the beginning - a self-pity, doom and gloom spiral in h's head - little reasoning of why she is so depressed while dancing in club with lots of bodies rubbing against her and she still a virgin. I almost DNF'd. Once the H truly entered into the story, it picked up. However, really not dark. H is into shady things - MMA/underground fighting background. H/h make agreement for sex for 2 weeks. H claims that's all it will be. 2.5 stars

I'm a bit disappointed in this story. The storyline is definitely there but the delivery is extremely mediocre for a Snow novel.

I feel as if too much of the overall story is dedicated to Sofia and her description of her crappy life. The very small percentage of her deal with Cameron and their subsequent relationship is rushed and unrealistic. It is difficult to connect with the couple and their relationship.

As always this review is my opinion based solely on the content of this story. Please con

This was a dark romance story by Jenika Snow and I loved it!! Cameron Ashton is this big, bad , dark man who is like the boogey man to Sofia. She’s a good girl who has gotten in over her head and Cameron is her only way out of her mess. He is club owner, a drug dealer, a killer.
Sofia is a girl with a tough past; she is a good girl who has had a rough past when she falls in trouble and her only options is Cameron. But by asking Cameron for help, she may have opened Pandora’s Box and instead of he

Great story. Great writing. Loved seeing the powerful drug lord fall for his Sofia. Loved the ending. Looking forward to more.

Sofia has lived alone and struggled for years. When she finds herself in trouble with nowhere to turn, Cameron, a drug lord and crime boss, makes her an offer to help that she can't refuse. How much of herself is she willing to lose?

Affliction is a little on the darker side. Although some may not like Cameron's character, I liked him instantly and appreciated his upfront honesty. He was a bad man. He killed and took what he wanted. Yet with Sofia he was sometimes more gentle and showed her a si

Let's start with the positive points. I absolutely love the cover of this book, a hot tattooed model, what's not to love? The concept of a mob boss saving a damsel in distress was interesting but the way the whole story was carried out wasn't that great. I love a strong female character and Sofia had no such qualities. Even a damsel in distress can have strong fierce character but Sofia was just sad, depressed girl who's just living her life day by day not making any positive effects to change h ...more

I love that with every dark Jenika Snow novel I read, I will completely become enamored with a depraved and deadly man and a strong and sassy heroine who will be his match in every way. When I read the blurb for Affliction, I knew that I needed to read this novel as Cameron Ashton was a man I needed to meet. And boy was I correct! I absolutely loved this novel. There was a fantastic couple, danger, hot SEXY times and an almost underlying intensity throughout the entire novel.

I normally love everything Jenika Snow writes, but Affliction was not one of her best books, it was still enjoyable but not one of her best. I don't know if I'm getting tired of how all the books in the real man series seem to be almost the same book, with a little change in the men and girls or what. This one just didn't do it for me. If you are a fan of Jenika's then I would say get it and read as you will enjoy it but if you have another book that you have wanted to read and you were

So, I loved the plot of this story but the delivery was weak. The character development with Cameron was pretty much nonexistent and Sofia's weren't much better. Even though it was told through Sofia's POV, it almost felt like I was reading in third person (which is my least favorite). Cameron is supposed to be a badass crime lord of the underground but I never caught that vibe. His character just seemed to be more like a figment of Sofia's imagination. The chemistry between Damian (Cameron's gu ...more

Sofia’s in a bad spot and needs money just to survive. Somehow she winds up owing a seriously bad guy money she doesn’t have. To save herself from a fate most likely worse than death, she appeals to an even worse guy, Cameron, to help her. A deal is reached and in trade for Cameron’s protection of her, she promises him herself for two weeks.

The story is about 70% Sofia’s internal monologue, 15% Cameron and Sofia interacting, 10% sex, and 5% descriptions of Cameron’s face and how it doesn’t expre

Okay, I'm not sure what to say. The story itself wasn't bad. It just wasn't for me I guess. I was irked by Sofia most of the time. She made things much harder for herself then they needed to be. Yeah, her situation wasn't ideal, when she needed to choose lesser evil of two. Though, I don't think there was a hardship to choose. Despite Camerons reputation, Sofia felt attraction for him from the beginning. And I wasn't sure why she was troubled by her feelings for him. It felt like Sofia was her o ...more

This was a mysterious, dark and sexy read with some creepy moments about a young inexperienced woman who gets herself mixed up with the wrong people...and then has to turn to someone just as, if not more dangerous, than the ones she is trying to run from for help.
It had some predictable moments but was still very entertaining in a "leave me alone I'm reading" kind of way...steamy, erotic and dirty. I loved it.

Sofia is in a dark place in her head. She uses the club as her escape. Until one night things go from bad to worse. She makes a deal with a monster. In order to get out of it she makes another deal, this time with the devil... Cameron. These two bring out something other than the darkness and I loved that. I can't wait for another.

I was surprised when I read some of the negative reviews about this book because I friggin' loved Cameron and I didn't understand the animosity against him. But hey maybe I'm a weirdo cause I love sexy as hell bad boys who are crime lords. Sofia is 22 years old and a virgin, she's going through life but she's not really living until she meets Cameron Ashton. She works at a coffee shop during the day, has no friends and unwinds by going to a local nightclub a few times a month. She dresses slutty ...more

I will say I am partial to a bit of a darker read, so when I read the synopsis I thought this one was right up my street. This is a shorter book than I'm used to, but you know the saying less is more? Well for me that fits this book perfectly.
Sophia seems a bit of a lost soul. Finding it hard to make ends meet she finds herself in a situation she does not want to be in and knowing what could happen terrifies her.
Unbeknownst to Sophia, Cameron - (drug lord, crime boss and murderer) is watching

I am such a huge fan of Jenika Snow every time I hear one of her books come out I can not wait to get my hands on . We get likable characters , story line that will keep you waiting till the very end , the sex scenes were hot , and the only thing I didn't like was the end was a little frustrating but over all this was a good book .

Read as part of the ‘Best of 2017’ book compilation

I’m obviously missing something…

This is the fourth book in the ‘Best of 2017’ Compilation and it’s the third book which has left me underwhelmed.

Sorry to say, but so far, ‘Affliction’ is my least favourite.

I don’t get it….Someone please help me out here because the story had a relatively great lead up, a fucking time jump where it was the most important part, and then an ending.

What the actual fuck?

No, seriously… what in the actual fuck!

Not Impressed

Have no idea where all these great reviews came from. I was not at all impressed. My biggest complaint is that it was almost impossible to connect to these two characters. First, we never get a description of either, except that he is dark, but not sure if that is his soul, his hair, eyes, skin. Yep, so from the get go we have to make up how they look and that always makes it hard to connect to the characters. Next, neither has any personality. Zilch, nada. They move, act and react

Good idea...poor follow through

After reading the description and getting a general idea of what this books was about, I was admittedly excited to dive in! Anything involving crime lords and romantic suspense/darker romance is right up my alley.

Unfortunately, I had trouble really liking this book. I thought the idea of it all was great, the characters had so much potential to be interesting, it just all fell short. It lacked any depth, the history of both characters was too vague. That wouldn't

Sophia is barely making ends meet and she only gets to let loose one night every month. She goes to a bar and she dances and drinks, but she never goes home with anyone. Sophia may not be a good girl, but she is a virgin. When one of her co-workers gives her an address and tells her that she can get the money she needs from there, Sophia stupidly goes there and a creepy guy named Ricky forces her to take his money and tells her he plans on collecting it back with interest. She ends up begging Ca ...more

I have read this before, but with the new cover decided to read it again and this time review it. Its labelled as dark but it's not its a love story with people who like rough sex. I still loved the book but for a Mafia book it was dull. A gangster with the reputation that Cameron had he was a pussy cat. Sofia down on her luck gets involved with the bad boys, but for me Sofia was one dimensional, there was no back story to her, no mention of why she was down on her luck, she just was. A good little read from Jenika Snow!
Quiet a dark book for Jenika but still had the alpha.

I really liked Carmeron, even though he was a huge part in the whole crime thing i still really liked him.
He wasn't sweet but dark and brooding.
He had been watching Sofia for a little while and he knew he wanted her but didn't like what she brought out in him.

Sofia, having a crappy time likes to go to clubs and dance, the only time she gets release but this time she chose the wrong man to turn down.

"I'm going to show you what it means to be owned by the very devil himself"

I had so much hope for this book! So much... however, there was too much "back story" and not enough dialogue to keep me in the loop. I skimmed until I couldn't keep skimming. I wanted more Cameron, maybe if there was a POV from him it would have gripped me better but I am sorry to say this just didn't do it for me.

For what I did read though:

“All I want, what I desire, is your surrender.” His voice was pitched low, so low I knew if anyone else had been in the room they wouldn’t have heard him. “I’m not a good man.” He said it so matter-of-factly that I had no doubts whatsoever that this man knew who and what he was. “I’m a killer, a drug lord.” He took another step closer. “I rule the underground with apathy and violence.” His chest was so wide, so powerful that it took up my entire view. “I know who and what you are.” But did I really? He shook his head slowly. “No, I don’t think you do, Sofia. I don’t think you do at all.” I was sucking air into my lungs, hard, fast, yet I couldn’t breathe. “I feel you’re my weakness,” he said softly, his voice deep, like a knife skating along my body, barely touching me, but the threat of getting cut was right there at the surface. He lifted his head then, staring me in the eyes, his gaze so cold, so hard. I was small, miniature compared to him. “And having a weakness isn’t something I’m comfortable with.” 1 likes
