After ten years away, Marcie finally ventures back to where she grew up. She isn’t in town for twenty-four hours when she crosses paths with Hook and Striker, the two boys who kept her safe and happy as a young girl. Only they aren’t boys anymore. They are fully grown, muscular, alpha men. Members of the No Prisoners Motorcycle Club. All through her teenage years, Marcie’s heart belonged to Hook. Not that he ever seemed to notice. And it appears that as an adult, not much has changed with regard to her feelings toward the sexy biker. But a bossy, alpha man is not what independent Marcie is looking for.
The moment Hook lays eyes on Marcie, it’s as though the last ten years apart never existed. Back when she was off limits, he wanted her, and it doesn’t take long before he realizes he still wants her. Marcie’s changed, though. She’s no longer a frightened teenager in need of a haven. Now she’s a beautiful, confident woman, and a bit too independent. Will Hook be able to convince Marcie a life with him wouldn’t stifle her freedom? Their relationship is tested when Marcie clings to her hard-won life and when an aspect of that life threatens not only their future together, but their safety as well.
How could you not love these two? They are amazing. I already knew them from the books before but hearing their story makes them an even more awesome couple in this series. I love Lily Atlas's writing and this series is one of my favorites. The characters are like a big family you can associate with. The men are like your order brothers friends you had a secret crush on and thought were so sexy and the women are the lucky girls who got to have them. This is a must read. You will enjoy this book as well as the rest of the series.
Randomly found this book and series on audible because of a challenge.. and I'm not even mad about it. There's just something about dipping my toes back into MC gangs and I am here for it all.
Hook is the novella for the No Prisoners MC series. In it, you will meet Hook and Marcie. Of course these two have a little reunion with one another and it was really sweet. I mean, it's adorable that people don't realize that people grow up and change. Especially to these two because man - they were like, 'Oh shit, they grew up!'
In the end, the romance and the story got me hooked and now I need someone else in the gang to fall in love.
Hook was a No Prisoners MC prequel novella. We were introduced to Marcie and Hook in book one, Striker, and we now have their back story.
Hook and Striker were best friends in childhood. Five years older than Marcie, they were her protectors in her troubled world. Fast forward 10 years and Marcie returned to her hometown for her mother's funeral. She crossed paths with the No Prisoner's MC and sparks burned between Hook and Marcie. She was an adult and no longer off limits.
Hook: gorgeous, sexy, protective and all alpha. Marcie: beautiful, independent and sassy. Atlas quickly unveiled their attraction as well as their challenges. It was predictable but enjoyable.
As with most novellas, I craved more depth, dimension and complexity. Additionally, there were several editing errors, such as incorrect and missing words.
Hook was a quick and easy read. Although published later, for those just starting the series, I recommend reading Hook prior to book one, Striker; however, it can be read out of order while still gaining maximum reading pleasure.
STORY With a psychotic ex boyfriend acting like a stalker and a reunion with a sexy, long lost friend who is now in a MC, this book has lots of potential. Unfortunately, it is extremely borrrrring!!!!! The couple breaks up for ridiculous reasons related to the female wanting to remain independent, and there isn’t anything extraordinary or exciting about the storyline. I am disappointed that I chose this for my first book by Lilly Atlas.
PERFORMANCE I listened to the Audible audiobook narrated by Noah Michael Levine and Erin DeWard. Ms. DeWard had the female main character speak with a southern accent yet the two men this character supposedly grew up with did not. Actually, Living made the air here, having one of the two men speak with a British accent and one with a western/California accent. Basically, the male main character sounded like a British pirate (which was totally unnecessary and inappropriate)! Ms. DeWard is a good actress but her voice sounds very mature which wasn’t a good match for this young female main character.
This was my first read from Lilly Atlas and I came across this series via Kindle Unlimited. Hook is a No Prisoners MC prequel novella. We are introduced to Marcie and Hook and this book tells there story.
Hook and his long time friend and brother are 5 years older then Marcie. Growing up they protected her from a terrible mother who didn't care for her like a mother should. They where there for her when no one else was. Fast forward ten years and Marcie is home for her no good mothers funeral she crosses path with the two friends again. No longer off limits and very much an adult now she feels the heat between her and Hook.
“I love you, Marcie. And I promise I won’t walk in front of you, but stand beside you for the rest of your life.”
An enjoyable read full of Putting the past behind, romance and healing with some surprises thrown in. Atlas has a series of secondary characters that she develops so well and makes the story that much better. Definitely a series I want to get my hands on. I will be diving into the next book as soon as I can.
This author even managed to hook me with a Novella? What?? This was a damn good read for being so short and now I wanna know more about every person we met so far. So a job very well done.
Let's start off by saying that this is a new author for us and we really enjoyed out first read by her.Three friends after so many years apart reunited but not under ideal circumstances but , are Happy moments never less and an opportunity for second chances.
An enjoyable romance filled with love, romance, healing, putting old ghosts to rest with a few surprises in the mix.We loved almost all the characters except the ex boyfriend what an a**. One of the things I loved about them the most were their unique names. They were fun and exciting as well as love-able and added that excitement and humor that the book needed to keep you engrossed.
I always pick a favorite character and mine is going to be Hook. That guy was just so sweet and love-able and handsome to boot .I just loved everything about him.He was patient and kind and lethal, possessive, humorous and just had one of those upbeat personalities yet showed he was vulnerable as well.He always had a thing for Marice when they were kids but, he new she was to young for him and vulnerable due to her family life and he did not want to take advantage. Now all bets are off no more acting like the protective big brother instead he is going to peruse what his heart as always wanted Marcie! Hook new they were destined to be soul mates and now he has a second chance of that happening. With a boyfriend in the mix as well he's up for the challenge.
We loved Marcie as well.We found her to be strong ,confident, beautiful, kind, had a sense of humor but, their always seemed sadness that surrounds her as well as being restless.Hook is just what she needs and has always been attracted to him but, she see's him as a bit of fun and not a permanent fixture in her life. Why not act on all those fantasies she has always had? For Marice a fling is what she has in mind but, for Hook its so such more.Marice was a bit of a complicated character that had a troubled childhood that brings back those bad memories and nightmares by returning home. She has become a strong independent women now and left all that behind her yet returning home its stirs up old ghosts she thought she laid to rest.Poor Hook already has strikes against him in winning Marcie over as he was part of all that back then as he and Striker were the ones that loved and protected her making them part of the bad memories she no longer wants part of.Marice was her own worst enemy at times as she was just too independent and just might push the only thing away that would bring her the true happiness that she has always wanted.
This was definitely a hot sexy read that was filled with tons of emotion and healing as well as love , forgiveness and friendship with a bit of drama and danger thrown in the mix and we loved it.An engrossing read from the get go with a bunch of interesting and love-able and fun characters and we could not put it down.A story that made us laugh as well and cry.
I love when you are able to connect or fall in love with the characters that you are reading about and we were able to do that with this great group of characters.I love when that happens to you because then you are invested then in seeing them get their happily ever after.Your always rooting for them.
A recommend MC romance that was a light fun read that was action packed from the get go .I am looking forward to getting to know the other members of this series as well .
Marcie returned to her hometown with her boyfriend of 2 weeks to bury her mother and settle her business. At the bar she runs into Striker and Hook members of the No Prisoners mc and longtime friends. Throughout her horrible childhood they were there for her. She's always viewed Striker as a brother but not Hook. When her boyfriend starts acting abusive Marce breaks up with him, hooks up with Hook and agrees to stay in town for a while. Meantime her ex has gone full on loco and starts threatening her, she doesn't tell Hook but informs the police. When Hook funds out they argue and the best day during an mc party the ex shows up locks Hook in an office that's set on fire and holds a gun on the mc. Marcie saves the day, they declare their love.....the end.
This was way too short for all the drama packed in How exactly does one have a boyfriend of 2 weeks? I'm judging and I don't care but that's basically a 14 day hookup. No way can you know someone enough to actually label the relationship in 2 weeks, that stretched things a bit too far, no wonder she's shocked his dumb ass turned psycho Hook and Marcie's connection was immediate, though they had history they weren't involved before as he considered her too young Just a glimpse of the mc members Marcie was another ultra independent young lady who refused to ask for help Didn't really get to know the characters enough to decide whether I liked them or not Screaming out Hook! During sexy times was just weird In the end.....😕 I enjoyed this author's other mc series so I may try another book in this series at some point.
Loved this short read the characters were really likable and the story line was really good . Marcie was a interesting heroine she is strong , independent , funny , and had a lot of spunk . Hook is just pure yummyness when he is introduced in the first scene total droll worthy sexy possessive alpha . They were just right for each other once the heroine let got of her hesitance it become super intense . Can't wait to read more by this author .

Disappointing novella that added nothing to the series and had no depth. Hook and Marcie grew up in the same town and had what seems to be a luke warm friendship. Marcie was much closer to Striker, although she looked at him like a brother and thought Hook was attractive. Hook and Marcie haven't seen each other in 10 years and during that time they don't appear to have been hung up at all on each other, more like "out of sight, out of mind". In fact when Marcie comes home to handle her mother's affairs, she doesn't even get in touch with Hook OR Striker, but rather runs into them in a bar. Lo and behold, 24 hours later, she and Hook are falling in insta-love and he's thinking "forever" in less than 72 hours. I know this is a novella, but come on, a tiny bit of build up would have made more sense, or maybe a more convincing/romantic backstory. Anyhoo, Marcie's "boyfriend" of 3 weeks turns out to be a complete lunatic (eye roll) and of course Hook saves Marcie and the day. This is short obviously, but I still wouldn't recommend wasting your time on it.
This was my first book by this author and I have to say I enjoyed it.
Marcie is back home to get her mother's affairs in order. Her mother died and the last thing she wanted to do was be there taking care of this when her mother was never there for her. But she is here, and with her "boyfriend" who she was on the verge of dumping and who is acting like he is a frat boy inviting his friends with as a road trip to her mother's funeral and not even being there for her. So at a bar letting off some steam she runs into her two friends who watched over her when she was a teenager. But who now turned into two Hot, Sexy Alpha muscular bikers. Members of the Prisoners Motorcycle Club. And maybe a good thing too as her "boyfriend" was turning into an abusive asshole.
Striker and Hook has been Marcie's bodyguards since her mother was never a factor in her life. Striker taking the roll of a big brother and Hook, well he wanted to be more than a big brother. But he couldn't do anything because Marcie was still a teenager, but now she's all grown up and all bets were off.
But will he be able to convince her that he wants to be the one taking care of her and being there for her, he wanted to be her partner. Or will all this be too much for the independent women that Marcie has turned out to be.
This book was Hot, Sexy full of drama and also a bit of crazy stalker ex trying to hold onto something that doesn't belong to him
I didn't realise that this was a novella until I started, having not read any of the others in the series didn't detracted from the story, because I liked the blurb and it made me want to read the series now.
Marcie is returning to her home town for the first time in ten years when she bumps into her childhood friends, only now they've grown into men and are now bikers.
Hook was always Marcie's favourite her crush, but back then she was too young, now she's grown and matured into a independent woman, the far cry from the frightened teenager, which means she's fair game for the sexy Hook now to claim.
This was a was quick easy read that was a sort friends to lover/ second chance story.
Short simple to the point with some drama and steam
Hook (TJ) was the guy with the sexy accent and great body. Marcie was only in town to bury her mother. She was determined to do things for herself even take care of an annoying mean spirited, crazy ex.
I was so glad that I read the other books (Stryker, Jester, and Acer) from the series. I was sadened by the poor editing in this one and the need to reread sentences and auto correct. I still enjoyed it.
This is Hook's and Marcie's book... it's also the set up book that introduces you to some of the members of the No Prisoners MC...book #.5.
Marcie is back in the town she grew up in to bury her Mother. She has her current boyfriend, who is a total jerk, and runs into some old friends that helped her as a young kid. She is no longer the scared and lonely little girl who needs protecting...or does she still need help?
Having read this authors Hell’s Handler’s series, I thought I would give Hook ago, this is a novella (so I’m rating for this book being a short story). Overall the characters were interesting with a good story and ending. I’m hoping this short novella will be a good start to another fabulous series as I really enjoyed the Hell’s Handler’s. Straight onto the first book now Striker.
Short story with likable characters and a second chance romance. Not my favorite of the series but a decent read. I suggest waiting for the price to drop some if you're following the series.
I absolutely loved Hook & Marcie's story, what a truly beautiful and amazing 5 star story it was, that had all the drama & suspense that made for an interesting Journey and loved that it was done in a duel pov. Again an absolute super high level storyline and characters and sexy, badass story that I highly recommend as a must read, along with all the other stories in the No Prisoners MC series. <3 <3 <3 <3 <3
Hook is the first book in the No Prisoners MC series. This book is a novella that sets off the series at a delightful beginning. Hook is Australian, and his family moved to town and got involved in drugs. But Hook and his best friend Striker and the girl they watched out for grew up together and looked out for each other. But once Hook and Striker turned 18, they became prospects for the local MC “No Prisoners” and they found the family they never had growing up. Marcie grew up with Striker and Hook. Her mother was a prostitute and a drug addict, and Striker took her in and looked out after her like a brother. But his friend, Hook, was no brother to her. And when she returns home after her mothers death to settle her affairs, she finds herself reuinited with the two men she calls family more than anyone else in her life. But her ex boyfriend has gone crazy and rough, and is stalking her while she reconnects with Striker and kindles the passion she feels for Hook.
I had a true fun time with this book, and this is a great way to start off the series. Its a sexy and sweet read and has a playful side to the romance which you don’t normally see in a MC romance. Of course you don’t see much of the club in this book, the focus is the romance between Marcie and Hook and also the friendship between Marcie and Striker. There is a downside to the story, which is the heroine. She tends to be a bit too independent that she forgets that living a life is important too. She had to be so independent growing up, and doesn’t want to have to give that up. She does hurt the hero in a way, because all he wants is a partner, but Marcie gets a bit too obsessed with her independence and doesn’t see that its important to let people into your life and you don’t have to sacrifice who you are to do so. Even though I didn’t like how she treated the hero sometimes, I did like seeing her personal growth and realize what she had been missing in her life and how lonely she had been since leaving town. We also have a intensity to the story with Marcie’s ex, who has kinda gotten too bit obsessed with her and I enjoyed seeing how this story played out in the end. Such a easy going, heart warming yet sexy as sin romance to curl your toes.
So this is one I'm not sure how to rate. It had a lot of potential but missed the mark for me. This book is really why I go back and forth on reading prequels. I've been able to figure out though, if an author is writing a prequel about specific characters and trying to give them their ending, they usually don't work for me. They are always short and they just don't give a lot of background on the characters. This one was no different.
Marcie is supposed to be this strong, independent woman. I don't view her as strong though. She has this boyfriend that she felt pressured to date by her boss. Um, yeah, that's not strong. Her boyfriend puts his hand on her arm so hard he leaves bruises Hmmm, she didn't whip her arm away and tell him to stop or back off, yeah, that's not strong. He then puts his fingers on her face the next morning, hard enough to leave bruises that require makeup to hide and she doesn't knock his hand away. See why I don't buy into it?
We get so little from her background to tie everything together. Well I mean, we get a little on Striker and Hook, but just enough to try and justify why Hook has this immediate "mine" mentality when he sees her. What I didn't buy was she was gone for 10 years with literally no contact at all. Her mother passes and she doesn't even contact these two to help her. She's been in town for several days and still doesn't contact these guys. It's only when she runs into them in a bar that all of a sudden they are SO important in her life. It didn't work for me.
Hook was a great alpha male. And I love alpha males. They are my favorite! But this book needed more.
My question would be, why don't Hook and Marcie get a full 300+ pages like Striker and the rest of the sub characters? Because what we got in this book, absolutely does NOT make me want to read the next book. I hate leaving series I start open ended, but I'm not sure I can read the next one. In reality, with the amount of books I read, after a week or so, this book will be a distant memory and so will the fact that I left the rest of the books unread.
This is a quick, easy read with a little angst and action and plenty of sweet and sexy.
What I Loved: the writing was well done and while this wasn't a gritty MC story, it was very enjoyable. Being a prequel, I felt like I wasn't missing anything since I've only read book 3 of the series previous to this one. It definitely has me wanting to read the first 2 books in the series now that I've been introduced to the great characters that are part of the series.
I loved Hook, he was sweet and funny and, of course, had that strong Alpha personality that the men in these books generally possess. I only wish I could've gotten more of him and his backstory. He's kind of relegated to being a side character and I think he should be much more than that.
I adored Striker and after reading this, I can't wait to read his story. I have a feeling I'm going to love the VP of the No Prisoners MC.
What I Liked: Marcie was okay but again we didn't get enough of her background. Yes, her childhood and teen years with her mother are touched on but I wanted more. I also would like to get more of her adult life. I don't feel like I really know her.
What I Didn't Like: the cliché of ex-boyfriend turned evil and crazy. Honestly, I found the confrontation between Tanner, Marcie and the club a bit ludicrous. I won't give spoilers but I have a hard time buying the whole thing, but whatever, I still was entertained.
Overall, I would recommend Hook. If you're a fan of the series or are just looking for a quick, fun and easy read, Hook is a good choice.
***Copy provided to Bayou Book Junkie by the author/publisher for my reading pleasure in hopes of an unbiased opinion, a review was not a requirement.***
This is a novella so it is a quick read but it is absolutely fantastic! In the release Striker we met Marcie and Hook. This is all of these characters back story per say and allows you to look further into the events that take or took place between these characters.
Childhood friends and inseparable Hook and Striker vowed to protect Marcie. Older than her and seeing her further from grand life made these boys form a boundary around this delicate girl. With years past -- 10 years -- Marcie is returning home after leaving to bury her mother. Five years in age was a large number when you are protecting a child but this woman is no longer a child -- she is a beautiful smart and fiery woman. Take the "off limits" sign from around her neck away ...
Sparks fly when Hook and Marcie cross paths again. Although this is a familiar written storyline these characters were very well done. There is a man in Marcie's life however that doesnt want Hook or Striker around -- thank goodness for Jester too -- now if Hook, in all the ups and downs can convince Marcie that she needs to stay everything will be as it should be.
Now here is something interesting -- I would maybe consider clicking this one up prior to Striker if you have not read it yet --- what I certainly know you need to do is click them both up.
I love this batch of MC men and their arrogant selves .... keep them coming Ms. Lilly -- what a great series. I look forward to much much more and to also keep up with Striker, Hook and the rest of our previously introduced characters!
Thank you for the ARC! Review to post to Ramblings From Beneath The Sheets.
I love a good juicy read about guys in an MC or Motorcycle Club. This was a novella and is a great introduction to a new MC world. Although this book I would consider lighter on the MC details and heavier on the relationships. Novellas are generally not my favorite especially when it is the first book I read introducing a new series. I enjoy them as a bonus to previous books but I generally don't jump to read a regular novella. Well, this was a great intro for me to Lilly Atlas and her MC world. I didn't feel the story was rushed or over the top which I have felt in the past about short books. Lilly pulls off a full-length novel in a compact story.
Marcie comes back to her hometown to bury her mom after being away for a long time. She brings her jerk of a boyfriend and is forced to face the music back home. She runs into her two favorite friends from way back and the fun begins. Hook and Striker are MC members and I loved their banter from the beginning. Everything from how they got their MC nicknames to their deep friendship and fierce protectiveness of Marcie.
Hook and Marcie have sparks from the start and it was great to watch. Her boyfriend Tanner causes a great deal of trouble and Lilly Atlas sure knows how to detail the awkwardness between Hook, Marcie and Tanner. I was literally cringing in certain chapters that's how well written it was. The ending was action packed and this novella definitely packs a punch until the very end. Marcie and Hook's story is a hot, unexpected nail-biter that amazed me to see how well written a short story could be. Pick this one up!
Y'all I am loving reading all these new MC authors whom I will be meeting in a few short weeks! I have been introduced to so many new worlds and I am stoked to be able to complete all these new series!
The problem I always have with novellas is that I feel like I don't get a fully fleshed out story. However, Lilly knocked this one out of the park, and I truly felt like I got to know each of the characters and their histories. Childhood friends to lovers is one of my all time favorite tropes because I love seeing the real friendship first before it turns into something else. This was very well written and a fantastic introduction to this world of characters.
Marcie was a strong character who masked her abandonment issues with her need for independence. She refuses to let anyone help her, but Hook comes along and wants to show her what it feels like to be someone's partner. I did get a tad frustrated with Marcie, but I understood where she was coming from. It was beautiful to see her story play out and to see her shell break apart under the watchful eyes of two men she considered family way back when.
Hook has his work cut out with breaking down Marcie's thick walls, but he is one man who is up for the challenge. He knew she was way too young to be with when they were kids due to their age difference, but there is no way in hell he is letting anything stand in their way this time around. Hook is sweet and tender with Marcie, but your typical badass mofo to everyone else.
I can't wait to read Striker's story and see what Lilly Atlas does with the rest of the series!
