This is the third in the Fabian Risk series which I have read from the beginning. As so often in the Scandi-Noir tradition, the body count is gruesomely high with Fabian's entire family having a storyline. Fabian and his wife, Sonja, head ever closer to divorce, Sonja's art work is displayed in an exhibition, and she accepts a commission from the wealthy Alex. Theodor, the son, deals with the family upheaval by becoming ever more remote, focusing his attention on Alexandra, a girl he has a heavy ...more

This is #3 in a series featuring Swedish cop Fabian Risk. After events in previous books, he probably thought he’d seen it all. He’d be wrong. It seems in the world of serial killers, there’s always some cheeky up & comer looking to make a splash.

Body #1 is fished out of a car driven into Helsingborg harbour. It’s no surprise the autopsy reveals a high blood alcohol level. But it’s a bit of a shocker when the coroner shares that the victim actually died 2 months ago. All his dip in

I won a copy in a Goodreads giveaway thanks to the generosity of the publishers. Possibly one of the last due to Goodreads’ unfair and silly changes to the giveaway system restricting all giveaways to residents of America. I believe these changes will change Indie and traditional publishing, and not for the better, making it harder to get authors to attract new readers.

But I digress.

Eighteen Below is an engaging read with so many twists and turns you’ll need to use Google maps to help find you

So spannend!

I was completely hooked from chapter 1. While it seems that there are 2 completely different, unlinked cases going on in this book, you get the impression that is not the case at all. But how they're linked is what keeps you guessing. The writing and the dialogue between these characters is fantastic and keeps the reader hooked the whole book. And just when you think you've got it worked out, the rollercoaster changes direction. Utterly addictive reading

I would like to thank Netgalley and Heads of Zeus for a review copy of Eighteen Below, the third novel to feature detective Fabian Risk now working in Malmo and former Copenhagen detective Dunja Hougaard, now a patrol officer in Helsongør.

When IT millionaire Peter Brise drives into the harbour after a car chase the police assume it's suicide until the pathologist reveals that he was dead and had been for a while when he went into the water. How can this be when he was seen a few days earlier? In

Best of the series so far for me. Very action-packed indeed and the more so the further you read. I greatly enjoyed it.
I do wish they'd stop messing with the order of these novels and how they're subtitled, though. I read book 1 then the 2nd released was meant to be a prequel and then the 3rd released was the 2nd in the series. Confused ? No kidding !! It's ridiculous.....
There were two stories running alongside each other in this one and I am hoping we see more of Dunja in the next book and th

A Nordic noir crime thriller, if you loved The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, you’re going to adore this dark, fiendishly clever book, the third in Ahnhem’s Fabian Risk series. A Swedish detective on the murder squad, Risk is a clever man dealing with trauma within his own family as well as holding it together on one of the toughest jobs in the world, all while covering for his slowly unravelling boss’s alcoholism.

Eighteen Below details two crimes, both equally brutal, in two different countries,

Thanks to NetGalley for the opportunity to read this advance copy of Eighteen Below. I had previously read - and enjoyed - "Victim Without A Face" and "The Ninth Grave", so I had great expectations for this third entry in the Fabian Risk stories; and I was not disappointed.

Although this one started out a little slower than the first two, it did gain momentum as the - as per Ahnhem's wont - multiple storylines played out: identity theft of the deadly kind (with a twist that I really didn't see co

I won a copy in a Goodreads giveaway.

I absolutely loved it! I haven't read the first two books in the series yet, but I'm definitely planning to now. I love the characters and the writing style. The plot kept me hooked. Already looking forward to the next book!

Thought a few bits were grisly, and that's not really my taste, but they fit the villains.

I would highly recommend it.

Having read the other two books in this series I had high hopes for this one but sadly I didn’t find this one to be quite as good as its predecessors and it took me almost a week to finish, whereas the others only took days to read.

I don’t know if it was because the format of the writing structure changed slightly or that it was due to the fact this one is more of a slow burner I’m not sure. But saying all that I would still read this one again!

The book has 2 storylines running through it which

”As a kid, I never dreamt of being a writer. Putting letters in the right order to form words did not come easily to me. In school, while the rest of my class had Swedish lessons, a strange-smelling lady would pull me out of the classroom to play with wooden blocks painted with colourful letters.

For as long as I can remember, however, I have been a passionate storyteller. Growing up as an only chi
