Last week, my local book store hosted a signing with Jackson Galaxy. I'm a fan of his show My Cat From Hell; it's helped me better understand my first cat, Pongo, a lot better (he has always been a bit of a "problem cat," or so I thought). The little bit I learned after watching just a few episodes made a pretty big difference, and made life in a cramped one bedroom apartment with a cat who was determined to "randomly" attack me and mark his territory everywhere a lot more bearable. The habits d ...more

Recommends it for: all for whom the cats are a mystery
Unlinke any other books about caring for your pet, this one sets out to inspire to love your cat for what he/she is: a passionate wild hunter, a monarch to their own territory, a sweet nurturer, an avid explorer, an intensely empathetic creature... and the list could go on. The seemingly inscrutable nature of cats' behaviour is explained so well here that it helps lead you in your own attempt to decode your cat's individuality. All you need is to throw away your prejudices (we all have them, som ...more

Witty and full of relatable stories, Jackson Galaxy has put together an incredible guide for cat parents that not only educates them, but also helps spread awareness.

Jackson Galaxy is amazing. The ultimate cat whisperer! This book was entertaining and educational. Galaxy tries to help cat parents understand their fur babies and accept them for who they are. This, in turn, leads to less feline aggression, unhappiness and stress. Also applicable to the cat parents (minus the aggression part).

Cats are indeed mysterious creatures, but Galaxy seems to make them easier to understand for the most part.

The book is very well written. A better insight into why your ca

I wish I could force people to read this

Not only does Team Jackson (and Team Cat Mojo) present basics about cat guardianship to expert level detective sleuthing for problems, but they have done so in a beautifully functional format. There are great illustrations and quick reference reminder boxes. Plus, I love a great index and this book has one. It's so annoying to go through a non-fiction reference type book and not have an index. Jackson makes sure to drill into the reader that having a cat o

I will start by saying that I REALLY enjoyed this book. It was written with the professionalism that one would expect from an animal behaviorist, with great tidbits of tactful humor. I picked up this book because I somehow became a "feral whisperer" a few years ago and since the cats aren't going away (LOL), I decided that I should start learning more about their species since I seem to have a natural way with them. This book was a great beginning place for me to really understand their body lan ...more

I'm getting a kitten next month, and I'm anxious to make sure he gets along with my older cats, so I read this book to brush up on cat stuff, and I highly recommend it to cat lovers! Lots of great advice about introducing cats to each other, but also gave me a lot to think about regarding how to make spaces in my home more cat friendly and the way cats need to play. The second half is about specific car behavior problems, none of which I have in my household currently, but I bought I copy of the ...more

This book as helped me understand my cat so much better. In fact, so much better that I recently adopted another cat and introduced it into the family "cat mojo style", so far the two of them get along fine.

Two months ago, a few weeks into lockdown, when it became clear that we were in this for the long-haul, I got in touch with my local shelters and talked about getting a cat. Initially the plan was to get an older black cat, since those are the ones that have the hardest time getting adopted (because of the associations with witchcraft - lol - their bad contrast for instagram - groan - and the hair showing up on stuff). However, most of the shelters were no longer allowing adoptions and many had ...more

I love Jackson Galaxy’s TV show, “My Cat From Hell”. He always has the best advice for feline parents. When I saw this available at the library as an audio book, I had to get it.

The info Galaxy gives is invaluable. Some information I already knew, but there were some new tidbits. He touches on every subject from feeding to litterboxes to play time with the kitties. Anyone who lives with cats would appreciate this book.

It’s easy listening. My one complaint was that I wish Jackson Galaxy had narr

I don't object to the idea of rearranging my house to cater to my cat, but I didn't find this book any more helpful in envisioning how the interior should be arranged than any of the many design/interior decorating books I've read. Galaxy also has a cutesy word/phrase for everything, though they're not all well-described.

Cat lover? You’ve grabbed the right book off the shelves. Written by Animal Planet’s “My Cat From Hell” host, Jackson Galaxy (aka Cat Daddy), along with animal behaviorist, Mikel Delgado, this is a guide to all things cat. How do cats think? What do humans think about their cats? Can humans and cats coexist? This book is informative and fun where Galaxy helps you develop your cat’s “mojo.” Mojo is that certain confident cat attitude that makes for a happy, content cat which makes its cat guardia ...more

This is a must read for cat guardians (We don't say owner or parent anymore) It contains a lot of information I wish I had decades ago and it's written in an easy to understand way. If you haven't seen Jackson Galaxy's show My Cat From Hell, each episode pretty much ends with the same basic solutions that are mapped out in this book. I see now that I and others have made a lot of mistakes in understanding our feline friends and people often project their own thoughts and human mindset onto the c ...more

I recently adopted two cats and have found Jackson Galaxy's resources incredibly helpful. By following many of his suggestions, our two cats are doing great in their new home.
I came to this book after watching 4-5 episodes of My Cat From Hell and an assortment of his YouTube videos. That being said, I think those visual resources might be the best route to learning his ideas. This book is solid, but actually watching the show and seeing him DO a lot of these suggestions seems more impactful than

I recently adopted a cat, so naturally I had to get all the books on being a cat parent. I had dogs and cats growing up, but since becoming an adult and living on my own I have only had dogs. I wanted to make sure I was doing everything I should to keep my cat happy and healthy and avoid those teeth and nails. Adopting my Harley Quinn helped me to remember that I have a healthy fear of cats. This book was so helpful in breaking down feline body language as well as stressing the difference betwee ...more

Jackson Galaxy is pretty much the only cat behaviorist whose observations and opinions I agree with the vast majority of the time. He has the ability to sensibly synthesize scientific evidence with years of hands-on experience to build logical bridges to conclusions that make sense and ring true to both. (The big exception to this is his peddling of his private-labeled Bach flower remedies, which are just expensive bottles of woo. However, they are not mentioned at all in this book – not even ob ...more

I've had cats for roughly 30 years on and off and I still learned a ton. I realized some cat behaviors I thought I understood I might have been misreading, and learned a lot of other interesting things too. Jackson Galaxy really understands cats, and how to frame an owner's mindset when thinking about your cat. For example, i'm now thinking of trying another type of litter for my cat, and he made me think entirely differently about how I approach playtime with my cat (just watching a toy is impo ...more

Most of the information in this book is the kind of practical advice that you could come up with if you really spent time studying your cat. However, there are just some things that you need an experts advice when your cat shits next to the overnight bag you bring to your boyfriend's place...after his cat got next to it and sprayed on the wall. SIGH. Anyways, everyone's cats are mostly keeping their bodily functions in place now. And now I know how to calmly integrate more cats into m ...more

Beginning by discussing the history of the domestic cat and how they came to be indoors only only in the last 80 years or so, then describing how to establish a routine that honors the nature of cats and will bring out the best of them, the book also discusses challenges and recommendations for addressing these problems. I really got a lot out of this book and highly recommend it to cat lovers and others living with cats in their families / homes.

A really well written book about understanding and embracing your cat. Jackson takes the time to break down different cat personalities, behaviors, and problems you may come across with you cat. Instead of just saying "this is how you stop your cat from doing this", he explains the whys of it all. Starting with figuring out what personality your cat has, which will definitely set the bar for future topics in the book. He goes into depth on bringing the mojo out in your cat, and by doing so, you ...more

I really enjoyed this book. I like watching Jackson’s show on television as he seems like a down-to-earth individual who loves, cares and deals with a variety of felines. I hadn’t intended to read this whole but what can I say, it was interesting and educational.

I'm in awe of Jackson Galaxy's holistic, compassionate, mindful approach to animal welfare and pet guardianship. As much as My Cat from Hell is marketed as a novelty show, along the lines of some of the reality shows you see on TLC, I've learned so much from watching it. Jackson is impossibly patient with (often unreasonable) humans while remaining uncompromising in his insistence on prioritizing animals' needs and well-being. The book is an extension of that approach, with fuller explanations o ...more

This book should honestly be required reading for anyone who has a cat or is planning to adopt one.

Jackson Galaxy's writing-voice is reminiscent of a very funky uncle. The concepts in this book are easy to understand, yet very unique in their presentation. This book is also extremely comprehensive, covering everything from litterboxes to ancient cat geneology. Like, this really is the Ultimate Guide to living with a cat.

Jackson Galaxy is the 'ultimate' in Cat Books! The Ultimate Guide is the only one that I have read of his number of cat books, but it is no leap to assume that those other cat books are just as entertaining as this one. Instructional, yes. Informational, yes. Obviously written by a cat lover and cat devotee.

I have only managed to see a couple of shows that Jackson Galaxy has made about helping people with their cats that have issues. I have read a couple of his books though, which are always filled with wisdom about living with our feline friends.

This new book is an entertaining read and I learnt a few new facts. I did disagree when he said that cats usually sleep about 6% of the day. Not so, the cat I live with she probably is only awake a few hours, but she is getting on a bit.

Even though I’m extremely fortunate to have two happy rescue cats with no major behavioral issues, I still read every word of this book after it was loaned to me by a friend because you never know when such information might come in handy.
