My husband and I are in the process of building a house right now and to say he’s obsessed with HGTV is putting it mildly. He always has it on when we’re home and though I didn’t see the appeal of these types of shows at first, they’ve admittedly grown on me. There’s something so satisfying about seeing a whole remodel or renovation being completed in thirty minutes, even if I know it’s unrealistic. Getting to see behind the scenes of a home i

Dear Reader,

When Bailey Meredith accepts a job as assistant interior designer on a TV home make over show, she looks forward to having the opportunity to create and see some of her ideas come to fruition.

Wilder and Waverley, the stars of said show, parents of adorable Virginia, seem like the perfect partners, the ideal foils to each other's contrasting personalities.

However, appearances can be deceptive, and when sparks fly between Bailey and Wilder, the superficial package marketed to TV audien

Is that a hammer in your tool belt or are you just happy to see me?

You'll have to forgive me for the dumb jokes. I'm running on little sleep because I stayed up late to finish this book!

Bailey is stuck in a job that is going nowhere and isn't putting her design aspirations to good use. Looking for something that will give her a chance to show her talent, she applies for a job with a mysterious employer. After a few rounds of phone call

Playing House... What an exceptional name for this story!! For my first story by Laura Chapman this was a cute story. I loved the playfulness between the characters as their relationships built throughout the story. It's not always pretty or easy, but when love sparks there isn't any stopping it!!! I look forward to reading more books by Laura Chapman, more of this story-line could be a great series too. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC copy of this book via Tasty Book Tours for an honest bl

My Review: 4/5

What a cute book! This one was a fast read, and as an avid watcher of HGTV, I loved it.

Bailey is an errand runner in a large firm. She longs to use her designing degree and put her talents to work, when her dream job basically lands in her lap. It's working on a realty series in Austin, TX, a show that fixes up houses.

Wilder is the co-host of the show and instantly there is a connection between the two of them. That's all I'm going to say about the plot because I don't want to give

Bailey Meredith is ready to quit her job as long as she can find another position where she'll at least -- be able to show off her design skills, instead of being the one to make coffee and file invoices. When the perfect job comes along, giving her an opportunity to work on a home improvement show with Wilder Aldrich, there's no way she'll turn it down. However, working alongside Wilder proves difficult, because of the strong chemistry bouncing between them. Will she be able to resist temptatio

This book kept me awake reading until all hours of the night - it's been awhile since that has happened, but I am so glad that I did! A fellow "book nerd" sent me this book and while it was on the TBR list, I figured that she loved it so much that I would move it to the top of my list, and I am SO glad that I did!! This book was funny, it was engaging, it made the reader laugh, cry and fume with anger at times, but it was lighthearted and it was just plan FUN! I loved the characters, the plot, t ...more

I'm not normally a fan of rom-com (in books, I love it in movies) but I really enjoyed this story.
First, it was cool reading a behind-the-scenes of what happens on design shows; I'm a fan of Property Brothers and various other HGTV house-fixer stories, so I liked that element of the story. Second, the characters were all likable. The protagonist is a strong female that doesn't act like a moron around men which is always nice to read. Wilder, the man in the book, is also likeable and nearly perf

This book was a really fun read. Bailey wants to advance her career as an interior designer and ends up being the successful candidate as a design assistant for a television home improvement/design show. The show's co-hosts are Wilder and Waverly - two loving parent to a little girl named Virginia. As she works away on the show, Bailey discovers that not everything is as it seems, and that television can make people believe anything. Laura Chapman has created characters that were very easy to re ...more

I loved everything about this book! The connection between Bailey and Wilder - Bailey's family drama - Wilder's love for his daughter - the thrill of remodeling old houses - the turmoil of reality TV! I was Team Bailey from the beginning! As you read, you become part of the story and can feel the emotions between the characters. Wilder is totally swoon-worthy! I got a Chip and Joanna Gaines vibe between Wilder and Bailey - such great chemistry. Such a feel-good read that warms your heart and giv ...more

I'm a huge fan of Chapman's Queen of the League fantasy football series & decided to try her latest novel. Once I find an author I like, I like to read them all. I was not disappointed. Playing House's behind-the-scenes look at a network design show was so fun and realistic I found myself wishing I could binge watch the episodes in real life. No such luck, since Playing House and the DN Network are both inventions of Laura Chapman's fertile imagination. Definitely recommend this one!

This was a cute book and i love design shows so it was cool to get a feel for what it's like in a behind the scenes on these types of shows. However, a lot of this book felt way too fantasy for me, i didn't feel like real people would act or talk the way the characters in this book do. In the end though, i was happy with how everything turned out.

Another great story by author Laura Chapman!

For fans of HGTV shows, this book is perfect. It’s like being able to go behind the scenes to find out what really goes on with the supercouples after the cameras quit rolling.

I loved Bailey and the gang. This story had you rooting for the good guys and hating the "bad" guys. Some parts got a little steamy—but in a good way. I thought it was artfully done. There were several black moments where I thought, “This situation is unfixable.” Yet (without giv

I love renovation shows, so when I saw the blurb for this book, I knew I would love it. The concept was great and I can’t believe I hadn’t read anything similar before. It seems like such great idea with how popular reno shows are. I loved that it demonstrated that there is a lot of editing before the show hits the screens. Even when it’s reality television, it is still heavily edited. This definitely added an element of truth to the story.

The characters had to be my favourite thing about the bo

I have read all of Laura's previous books so how could I not read this one? I know even before I start one of her books that it is going to be a fun read and that I'm going to love the world she takes me to. Playing House is wonderful story, just like her other ones, but this one has a much different feel to it.

With Playing House, Laura has taken her writing to a whole new level. This book is more complicated and evolved, the characters have more depth and seemed more real to me. I felt like I c

I am such a huge fan of second chances and those reality tv shows so this new one by Laura Chapman just piqued my interest with Playing House. We have Wilder Aldrich who beneath the city clothes he is still a Texas country boy just wanting to make people happy. Then we have Bailey who wants to have her dreams come true and be a designer not feeling her full potential. I loved how Laura Chapman brought these two together and then have Waverly in the picture creating a tale that we never expected ...more

I’m not nearly as skilled as I’d like to be with a hammer, and have no clue how to decorate, but I love home improvement shows. Which is why the premise of Playing House appealed to me as much as it did. Yet, as often is the case with anything you read by Laura Chapman, there’s more to it than that. So much more.

When it comes to the small screen, we’re only privy to the scenes that are given the green light. How much of it is rea
