I don't really know what to say about this book without being unkind. It is a bit of poorly written "pride and prejudice" with no action, or turning point moments and an unlikeable heroine. Its just a nothing story with no great plot twists or character transformations. As many contemporary historical characters as will fit in the 200+ pages have been added and in many respects their stories are more interesting and developed than the main characters. The author has obviously researched the setting of her book in it's historical period but has taken some licence with the order of events. Deverill is ok as the male lead but Louisa is just whiney and annoying and sometimes a little bit of a snob. For a woman considered past her eligible prime in the Ton, she acts like a spoilt entitled teenager. She doesn't deserve Deverill and I just hoped against hope that he would move on and leave her behind. He deserved so much better.
