This is the story of a lie told to save a life, but that grew and grew until it came out at the worst moment possible!

I'm not overly fond of lie trope, but here the heroine told it for a worng reason. I understand that Grace is afraid, but why keep telling the same lie when you met the hero and undersatood that he was not the beast?

And keeping it for such a long time?

I could also understand Tor's anger when he discovers it.

But I liked that she understood it too and din't act like an upset idiot.
This just came out on audio so I thought I would give a listen on Hoopla. I absolutely HATE the ending! I marked it down another star because it really ruined the book.

Prior comments:

I really enjoyed the vast majority of this book. It had a good story, a few interesting secondary characters and a likable hero and heroine.

The OW drama brought down my score. If not for that this would have been a 4.5 or 5 stars

Though I dislike stories where lies and deception are part of the plot, I really like the h, Ava Sutton, and the reasons binding her to the deception made me feel sympathy. Tor Maclean, called the Beast of Aros Castle, is everything you could want in a kilt-wearing, sword-wielding Highland Scotsman. And more. With that said, all the supporting characters with a few nicely hammered out twists and turns made this a story I could not put down until I was forced to stop listening. The

It’s a classic, folks. The Beast of Aros Castle had all the classic elements I’ve come to enjoy in a great romantic read from this particular genre. Reluctant to love doesn’t even begin to describe Laird Tor. This handsome, mountain of muscle has been manipulated in the past, and he’s too manly to ever let that happen again. But those big strong walls around his heart don’t stand a chance when Lady Ava storms his castle ready to do whatever is necessary to protect herself and her lifelong friend ...more

I read this book in 2 hours. It's really nothing special. Weak plot and bland characters. It's readable though. Expect a cookie cutter English woman with Scottish laird story minus the historical details. Picture 2 horny people parading around one pretending to be Scottish and the other English. I am generous with my 2 stars. There are much better offerings in this sub genre.

Spoilers ahead.

I enjoyed this book. I'll admit I mostly read fantasy but once in a while I enjoy a historical fiction and this book delivers. There weren't any surprises, in fact I found the book fairly predictable but I was satisfied. A fun fluff read!

I’ll admit it: this is another one where the cover absolutely was the reason I wanted to read the book. In fact, I was slightly worried with the word “beast” in the title that it might be too… something … for me. But, I love highlanders, and I love the tiny islands that surround my dream land of Scotland. So, yep… this was not a difficult choice. “The Beast of Aros Castle” paid off and successfully provided a lovely jaunt across the sea.

I heart author Heather McCollum's books. :D The characters she brings to the pages whether they are dastardly, comical, charming or downright sizzling - they never cease to entertain from one page to the next. In Ms McCollum's latest novel, The Beast Of Aros Castle, Ava and Grace's crusade held all sorts of challenges and obstacles, not the least of which their subterfuge/deception. Tor from the start added a few beats to this readers heart ;) Even the secondary characters in the story were stan ...more

I found this book on netgalley and received a free copy in exchange for an honest review. I was initially drawn to this book for a few reasons. The cover caught my eye (yummy!) and the blurb sounded fun – who doesn’t love a good Highland story every now and again? While I have never read anything else by Heather McCollum, it is the first in a series, so I knew I wouldn’t be missing out on any backstory, inside jokes, or character nuances. It was published by one of my preferred publishing houses ...more

I liked this book.

Ava and Grace are desperate to escape Grace's vile half brother Vincent. So they hatch a mad scheme to marry Grace off to a business associate of her father's in Scotland.

Tor is the chieftain of the Maclean's of Mull and is referred to as the Beast of Aros. His father has recently passed and asked Tor to marry his associates daughter to protect the clan from the English. Tor has flat ou

I will be honest that this book took me over a week to read, and I don't think it was the actual story and the writing, but I just wasn't in the reading mood this past week. I did find this book pretty intriguing even if it contains secrets and lies and of course when the truth does come out its at the WORST time it could come out.

The story begins when our heroine, Ava Sutton, is fleeing with her best friend Grace to escape a man that would

A Perfect Highland Romance
I loved this book! Is it a generic Highland romance? Yes! And, that is exactly what I was looking for! The mistaken identity conflict with Ava and Grace is pretty contrived, but I understand why the author did it. The H&h’s relationship was very sweet and moved at a nice pace. I loved how Ava saved herself in the end. It was also a nice twist that Tor didn’t immediately forgive her. I was expecting the HEA and instead it took him a little longer to accept her lies. Not

Tor Maclean has sworn off marriage after his first wife tricked him into it. Tor has tried to scare Ave away, however, Tor is drawn to Ava's fire, courage, and beauty. But when all the truths are revealed and hearts, as well as lives, are the dagger's edge. Tor doesn't know if he can forgive or if he will truly become the Beast of Aros Castle.

I loved this book. It was the cover that originally drew me to this. Tor and Ava are a great couple. Both damaged by their past. It was nice to see them being put back together little by little. 1st book I've read by the author and it won't be the last.

I loved this book. Ava and Grace scheme to get away from Grace's brother by coming up with a plan for Grace to marry an Highlander! On their way, Ava agrees to be Grace and Grace becomes Ava. Ava's plan to make Tor McClean fall in love with her, marry her and then she will tell him that she is really Ava not Grace. Well little does she know that Tor has been lied to before and was very angry about it which led to his nickname the Beast. The past catches up with Ava and Grace and the truth comes ...more

Definitely a buy buy buy book..... in my opinion. I try to not slant reviews and to be honest with all I write in them. So I am going to try again to justify my 5 stars though.... arguably it could be 4. This book has so many depths that I had to go 5 stars. It touches on life and emotions. It has loyalty of kin, loyalty of love as well as loyalty of family. It shows the scars and blemishes that can occur in relationships while still finding love. A mystery, a crime, passion, romance, stubbornne ...more

This was an enjoyable read, and as the first in an all new series, I can say that I’m looking forward to reading more. If you enjoy historical romance novels, you’ll want to add this one to your TBR pile.

Ava was a fun character. She’s mischievous, got a bit of sass in her, loyal to those whom she loves, and will do what she has to to protect those closest to her, even if it means deceiving others in the end. Tor is guarded, he’s had his trust broke

Hot. Sexy. Alpha. Protective. And we must not forget broody.

The beast was not exactly what I was expecting but more than I could have desired. Tor was all that I have come to love in a highlander. Hot. Sexy. Alpha. Protective. And we must not forget broody. He had extra elements to intensify his character and allow him to grow throughout the read. He was distrusting of women. As fate would have it he finds one such woman that intrigues him, temps him, she lures him in and then fate as the bitch

I have read many books written by Heather McCollum and seem to enjoy each one more than the last one I read. The Beast of Aros Castle is no exception. She blends a wonderful story with some danger, great characters, and of course, a villain. Grace and Ava, her maid need to escape their home and Grace's half brother before her father dies. Vincent has been after the girls, especially Ava with nothing good in mind. Vincent is convinced to let Grace marry their the son of their father's friend.. So ...more

As usual, I read book 2 first, but it didn't bother me at all.

Ava and Grace grab the first opportunity to leave their home when it becomes dangerous to them. That opportunity happens to be a wedding proposal Ava has accepted for Grace.

The problem? The husband would be the Beast of Aros Castle. He has a certain reputation that doesn't sit well with the two Englishwomen. But they choose to have whatever fate awaits for them in Scotland, than remain in York.

Tor doesn't want or need a wife. Been t

This was an engaging read! It starts with mild drama between Ava, Grace and Grace’s truly horrid stepbrother. Then Ava’s teeny tiny lie to Tor when they make it to Scotland kind of spun itself bigger than intended..I mean, geeee...imagine that happening! (I’m saying that with tongue in cheek ) ..And so the adventure begins!

A few characters have bigger roles, but the main focus was all Ava and Tor. The absolute best part for me was Ava. She was spunky, hilarious, and really did concoct some mad p

This is the first book in the Highland series. The Beast of Aros, Laird Tor, has been wronged by his previous wife. He wants nothing to do with the arranged marriage that would bind him to an English lady. The English lady in question, Grace, wishes only to flee her brother's violent streak. Her friend, orphan Ava, comes to the rescue and her convoluted plan ends up with herself wed to Tor.

I liked this book by Mrs McCollum. The writing is fluent. The characters are well crafted and believable. T

I have missed feelings about this book. There is so much to like: Ava's mind, Ava's courage, Ava's wit, Ava's actions, Ava's decisions, Ava's compassion, and basically everything about Ava. I really like that Ava and Grace truly love each other, care for each other, and look after each other like sisters. You don't see this comradeship in many books.
I did not like Tor. I did not hate him either, except when he said, "Go. You are dead." to Ava when he learned of the Ava and Grace's
