I wasn't sure what to expect with this book. Emmanuelle de Maupassant is known for her writing of erotic fiction and I wasn't expecting too much 'steam' with the book being about the pregnancy of the main character. Well, even with a heavily blossoming tummy you can have a lust or two with hunky Italian lotharios hanging around!

Baby Love is written in the style of a diary and also uses text and phrasing as if you had written your own diary, cutting out all the 'me's and 'I's which are obvious really.

Delphine's husband is good looking and good in the sack, he knows it as well as Delphine . . . and so does the lady next door! It's terrible timing when at Christmas, Delphine finds herself pregnant and husbandless. I'm sure we've all made the wrong choice of bloke somewhere along the line and can feel for the bleak outlook of her life. I loved Delphine as a character, she didn't deserve the hand she'd been dealt, and I sympathised with her situation. Delphine has hit rock bottom when her well meaning sisters come to the rescue and cause more hilarity at the spa they've booked the three of them into.

Overall, a very good and funny story with moments of pathos. The wry outlook on life and the ironic humour makes this a well worth satirical read.

Oh, this is such good fun. I read it in an hour and a half while I was supposed to be doing all the constructive, motherly things that main character Delphine has to look forward to.

The diary style is reminiscent of Bridget Jones in that the note-taking style eliminates a lot of repetition of "I" from the text. That worked nicely for me and made the story bounce along rapidly. What worked even better for me was that the gently self-effacing humour comes from a talent for non-biting sarcasm and understatement; the moments that made me snort into my tea came from Emmanuelle's clever word play, and not a succession of cringe-making embarrassments (a la Bridget Jones).

It's a really wonderful way to pass a boring commute, for less than the cost of the sandwich you'd buy to sustain yourself on the journey. Buy, be entertained, feel uplifted when you get home

Really didn't know what to expect from this - but was very pleasantly surprised.

Written in the form of a diary, Delphine tells the story of how she fell pregnant after trying so hard for years, only for her rat bag cheating husband to leave her at Christmas. Fast forward a few weeks to February and a spa break organised by her two sisters and we have a gem of a story - had me in stitches in parts.

A sweet tale and fitting that I read it on St Valentine's Day.

I really enjoyed the story and I liked the fact that it was written as a diary. I love Delphine, she is "so real", it's easy to feel for her and relate to her. The author's way of writing is simple but to the point and this make the story enjoyable.
It's the second book that I read from this author and I will definitely read more from her.

Baby Love was a fun read, and it was very creative to use a diary to tell Delphine’s story. To make up for her husband leaving her after announcing she is pregnant, her sisters treat her to a trip to a spa to cheer her up. This is where the fun begins. Her entries were hilarious. She has quite a sense of humor. I thoroughly enjoyed the story.

A short and sweet story about meeting one's true love when least expected and when everything seems to be against you. I felt all of Delphine's anguish and betrayal after what that clown of a husband did. I wanted so badly for Delphine to have her deserved happiness. I really enjoyed this story.

This is my first book from Emmanuelle de Maupassant, which will not be my last. I enjoyed the diary style of writing. This was a fast read and nothing flowery and useless words just to fill up space. I loved the way Delphine's mind ran away and imagined all sorts of things; her sisters were a hoot; and I loved the ending. What a great read.

Adam has been cheating on Delphine. There is no reason to like him, especially as she is pregnant.
I like the opening cosiness of Baby Love: caravans in Dorset, chocolate digestives, and games of scrabble.
Warmth that slowly turns into stone cold as Delphine is no longer unaware of what Adam has been doing with the next door neighbour.
Delphine certainly has her own unique ‘voice’
I like the relationship she has with her sisters, and that they have with her.
I think this might be the funniest by Emmanuelle de Maupassant yet.

This was such a fun read. Written in a diary style, in the first person, it tells a bittersweet story of Delphine, who is overjoyed to find that, after six years, she and her husband are expecting a baby. Unfortunately her husband is less thrilled and not long afterwards, on Valentine’s Day, announces he is leaving her for their next-door neighbour. Dalphine is understandably devastated. But she has two lovely sisters who decide to treat her to a stay at a spa, with Jacuzzi and massages from a hot young masseur. Delphine’s sensory system begins to work overtime.

Despite the subject matter, the book is written in a light-hearted way, and is completely absorbing. The author has captured the character of Delphine so well. I sat up until the early hours, unwilling to put it down. It is fun and light and a joy to read. I can’t recommend it enough.

I'm usually not a fan of "baby" books but this author has quickly become one of my top picks. This book is written from the viewpoint of a woman who is pregnant after 6 years of trying with her husband, only to have him leave her for the next door neighbor. That neighbor happens to be old enough to be his mother! I hated that husband for almost the entire book and it actually made me feel good. I suppose everyone needs to take out their aggression on an unsuspecting fictional character every now and then, right?

The writing is interesting, done in the first person with a slightly different sentence structure that really made the character come to life. It almost read like a diary. For example, instead of saying "I went to the store and.....", the author writes "Went to the store and.....". It's not much of a difference but it was something that I felt added to the tone of the book. The book is actually written as a narrative from a mother to her unborn child.

I loved the depth of the characters (see my rant about hating the husband, above) and the descriptions of character and scenes brought it all to life. There is some pretty sexy thoughts going on here and plenty of innuendo, but no overt sex descriptions.

Warning: This book contains cheating, which is actually part of the main story line. There is no HEA and there is a cliffhanger that will have you groaning at the end, wishing the book was twice as long.

Umm i have a problem with the style writing. I know it is written in diary format, but the writing is bothering me. For instance:

Would go next door and have it out. Am pregnant with Adam’s baby. Am his wife. Am not going to let predatory neighbour steal him away without a fight.

Managed to get down the staircase and out of the front door without falling over, though legs felt all wobbly. Was drizzling. Realized that still had slippers on feet. New ones, shaped like hedgehogs (Christmas gift from parents). Could not go back now. If did, fury might abandon me and I might not get up nerve again.


There are a lot like that, messing up the sentences with subject 'I' missing. I think we could omit the subject once or twice hence the diary style, but not in a whole paragraph. It just weird to read.

The story was okay.

A diary written with fun in mind. A woman scorned in the throws of late pregnancy. Not my usual subject matter at all (in fact miles away from it). That said I enjoyed this lighthearted, comedic read. Well written in the first person from Delphine’s point of view this is written as if you had penned it yourself. (no “I”’s or “me”’s if that makes sense just “Went to the bathroom and...”). Somehow this makes it more personal and you feel that you get to know Delphine quickly and easily. A short story to be enjoyed over coffee on a summer’s day.
I voluntarily chose to read this ARC and all opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased.

Baby Love was a little hard for me to follow in the beginning, as it seems to be written as journal entries to her unborn child. That's not too much of a problem, but things were written in past and present tense with nothing to indicate the change. This made things a wee bit confusing at first. It is a good story, with great character development throughout. I was just a bit disappointed that right when I was getting into the story, it ended. Though not technically a cliffhanger, I was left wanting more to the story...what happens to her husband? Do things progress with her new interest?

Written in the style of a diary with a Bridget Jones feel, this is a fun and fast read. The text removes a lot of determiner words such as me, the and a, to give it that bouncy feel. It did take me a little bit at the beginning just to get into the feel of that style but I quickly came to love the characters and story. The plight of Delphine is humorous, satirical, relatable and great fun. Would love to read more by this Author!

I really enjoyed this book, kind of reminded me of Bridget Jones Diary but was a little more personal. So sad that her husband left her for her next door neighbor! What kind of man does that? Terrible. So sweet but heartbreaking that she was having to enjoy the last months of her pregnancy on her own. I’m glad she had her sisters support though. Wish it was a little bit longer as I wanted to know what happens with her baby.

Ok. This book annoyed the hell out of me. It's written in dairy form. But Delphine was whiny!! Suck it up and move on. Kick his ass, don't stand there and take it. I would have liked to see what happened with Adam. Instead, we got nothing. I would have liked to have seen him come back, with his tail between his legs, and her telling him to sod off!! Her coming back stronger than ever instead of rolling over and probably taking him back. Maybe, see what happened with her and Jack!!

Delphine’s husband runs off to the women next door leaving, Delphine alone and pregnant. She’s treated to a spa holiday with her two sisters to cheer her up. This book was a lovely read as we got to go through Delphine’s pregnancy with her. It’s a short but sweet read. Reviewed by Jennifer

I thoroughly enjoyed this charming story, which is tamer than the Authors other works.
It is a Diary style story about Delphine who falls pregnant after years of trying, only for her monster of a cheating husband to leave her at Christmas. Comical highs and lows and a little sauce added to the mix made this a fun little read.

Was not sure what to expect when I got the opportunity to read this.
Usually love everything Emmanuelle writes so took a chance on it.

This diary-like-writing is a letter to her child while pregnant.

All kinds of emotions pass, probably even more intense because of hormones.

A bit sad now because of all that happened, but also hopeful because the kid definitely has a loving mom.

This book was a great surprise, I downloaded it because of the cover, loved the drawing ! As I started reading it I realized there was a really sad story behind it but told with grace and lots of lovely British humour. It´s a story of love, family, relationships, betrayal and joy as a baby is coming! I´ll be looking for other books by this author.

I love this book. It was a quick read. The diary style that revolves around the main character Delphine who’s scumbag husband cheats on her leaving her alone desperate and pregnant. A sweet funny town with a fabulous Andy. Well worth a read!
