As the last season of Family Affair comes to a close, prime-time teen star Kaitlin Burke is no closer to deciding what she wants to do after the show ends. Struggling with career choices and bummed over a ridiculous catfight with her BFF, Liz, Kaitlin is so mixed up she even starts to semi-bond with her archnemesis, Sky. Worst of all, she falls in with two of Hollywood's biggest party fiends when one of them asks her, "Don't you ever do what you want to do?" Shopping sprees and the Tinseltown nightlife seems fun at first, but soon Kaitlin realizes that being a paparazzi princess just might be her downfall.
Hi Goodreads! I'm Jen Calonita, a MG and YA author who loves what I do because it lets me connect with all of you (and no, I wasn't intending for that to rhyme!).
I've been writing ever since I can remember, but it was fourth grade when I put my "three wishes" for a genie down on paper. They were: #1. Buy all the Cabbage Patch Kids in the world and give them away for free (because apparently that was how I rolled). #2. I wanted a mansion, limo, lake house, pool and speed boat (still sounds quite nice). #3. I wanted to be an author for young readers, which I am!
I love writing novels for teens (and for savvy grown ups who know that YA rocks at any age). My first series was "Secrets of My Hollywood Life" and it followed a teen star named Kaitlin Burke who struggled with the fame game. I have also written the stand-alone novels Sleepaway Girls, it's companion book, Summer State of Mind and the Belles series.
I've been writing middle grade too and am having so much fun with my series Fairy Tale Reform School! The fourth book in this series about a school run by former villains is called Tricked and will be out March 2018. Ever wonder what it would be like if your parents got a job with someone like Taylpr Swift? My other middle grade series, VIP, follows super fan Mackenzie Lowell as she tours with her favorite band, Perfect Storm.
I promise to give book updates here, and on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, or my website. I hope I hear from you!
This is a disappointing book in the series, and if I hadn't given the first three books three stars, this would be the last one I would read. On the one hand, I can relate to the pressure Kaitlyn is under as her series is wrapping up, but some of this is difficult to buy with this character, etc. This story is the worst one; perhaps I wouldn't have minded as much if this had come out when I was a teen, but I'm not sure. Let's just say that she is a lot stupider in this one than she usually is, and that there are a few too many things thrown into the mix to make it believable.
It took me 2 days to finish this book. Why? Well, first of all, it has this eye catching cover, which makes you want to bring this book with you wherever you go. Second of all, this isn’t just an ordinary series; it’s different than the first 3, very different—less drama, more Kailtin. Last but not least, its not a challenging book, you don’t need to carry a dictionary around you 24/7, because there isn’t any vocabularies that are difficult, well at least not for me.
Surprisingly, Secrets of My Hollywood Life: Paparazzi Princess isn’t the last book in this juicy series. And that’s a good thing. In this 4th book, Kaitlin will start to worry about her future career, and her family paycheck. She will get overstressed and make a lot of wrong choices, I mean A LOT. It’s interesting to read this because you can really connect to Kaitlin, you will really keep in mind that everybody make mistakes, even celebrities.
So tell me, when have you never had a friend that was a total backstabber; the minute you turn around, she’ll start talking about you. Everyone had, even Kaitlin, but how can she get rid of them? She sure heard a lot of bad stuff about them. And who’s those “bad friends”, they are Ava, and Lauren. They even hired paparazzi to take pictures of them, jeez, that’s the last thing any “A-List” celebrity would do. But due to the fact that Kaitlin is overwhelmed by her career and her fights with Liz, Nadine and her mom, she had to have a great escape.
How would Kaitlin fix all this? What would she do? What CAN she do? Not all celebrities get forgiven that easily. Would her lies work? Would she tell the truth? It's not just Kaitlin, I' m going crazy reading this book.
YOU HAVE TO READ THIS BOOK, YOU JUST HAVE TO.
I hate to break it to you, but if you’re still not convinced how good this book is, you’re really not that cool :)
I started this in Nov and just now finished reading it. To me this book was kinda on the slow side then the last three books, hopefully the next one be a lot better.
Continuing this YA series. Kaitlin is growing up but still struggling with peer pressure and bad choices. The plot development is cookie cutter for each story but I still like them.
Another cute, fun read in the series. Kaitlin is a very likable character and I want to see what is in store for her next.
This book picks up with Kaitlin on vacation. She knows when she gets back they will be filming the last episodes of Family Affair. She's really having trouble dealing with it. Especially when everyone in her life is seemingly pushing their own agenda on her. She happens to run into two well known party girls, Lauren and Ava. They are super nice to her and she was pleasantly surprised by the encounter, even though they had a paparazzi named Gary intentionally following them.
Kaitlin's agent wants her to pick a new project asap. Her Publicist, Laney, wants her to chose a project ASAP. As does her agent Seth. Seth keeps lining up projects and scripts for he to review and read and she keeps blowing him off. Her mother wants her to do a reality show (because it will spin off to be focused on her mom). Her dad is worried about how they will afford their lifestyle without Kaitlin working. Nadine (her assistant) keeps pushing SAT testing and picking a new show, which is so unlike Nadine; Nadine is usually on team Kaitlin and always has her back. And the worst, is her best friend Liz has been MIA and seems to have made a new friend named Mikala and now doesn't have time for Kaitlin. The only thing going right for Kaitlin was her relationship with Austin.
Instead of Kaitlin talking to her friends and family and team, she keeps everything bottled up. (In her defense, she wanted to talk to Liz but Liz kept blowing her off. But she should have just been honest with everyone). Kaitlin was freaking out over her show ending. She was having trouble dealing with the emotions of the show being over and worried what her future might hold. That she may not find a successful career again. And instead of talking with her peeps, she started hanging out with Lauren and Ava. It was just for a few weeks but she started to realize they weren't the kind of girls she wanted to be around (after they were rude to fans and she realized they would steal from stores).
Her mom set up a meeting with a music producer (without Kaitlin or her agent Seth's awareness or permission). It was a disaster. Her mom quickly realized that she made a mistake arranging this meeting, but worse, Kaitlin was forced to record a demo song called Paparazzi Princess. It was a horrible song and Kaitlin didn't agree with anything in the lyrics. Both she and Seth were livid and her mother felt horrible. Seth was to get the demo tape back so that song would never be heard.
During an interview and photo shoot for a cover of a magazine, Kaitlin hit her breaking point. The questions she was being asked were freaking her out and then Lauren and Ava crashed the shoot. They were being rude and destroying the clothes. Kaitlin asked them to leave and they wouldn't. Finally she collapsed and was taken to the hospital. She was suffering from panic attacks.
She finally came clean to her people. They realized they hadn't been looking out for her either. But because she had ignored her future and the scripts, she lost out on a couple of opportunities she would have actually liked. Kaitlin tells everyone what was going on with her at a press junket. And she's finally able to face her future. She studies and thinks she does well with her SATs. And she picks a project. She decides to give the Theatre a go and signs up for 10 weeks on the stage in NYC. Even better she learns that Liz will be doing a summer program at NYU and will stay with Kaitlin and her family (they all are going to NY).
So it worked out in the end. She was able to let go of Family Affairs and look forward to the future. I'm looking forward to the next book. I want to see how Kaitlin does in a new place and working in a new environment.

This book was shallow. Extremely shallow. I liked the first couple Hollywood Life books, but this one was about shopping and paparazzi and the harsh life of hollywood, when the books before were about her being a down to earth star, and were very relataible. This book was all about mean girls and all the shallow things with life, which I have found to be fun for a bit but after awhile you get bored. Hopefully book #5 will be better!!
Velit beatae ad tempore aut. Et ipsam quia animi quam fugiat. Qui praesentium delectus adipisci ullam occaecati qui aliquid. Quos optio voluptatem. Nulla eos nesciunt corporis.
I don’t love the way Kaitlin acts in this book, but I do love the way that she learns to be heard by her team and stand up for herself. With the end of FA looming, Kaitlin is freaking out. Her thoughts and feelings are so relatable, and I love the depictions of the panic attacks. The sense of being out of control is something a lot of people can relate to, and it makes Kaitlin a more realistic character. I love that Austin and Kaitlin are still going strong in this one. They’re so good for each other. Liz and Kaitlin are struggling, but they come back to each other in the end. The storyline with Ava and Lauren gets a little bit crazy, and it’s good to see Kaitlin finally discover their true colours.
I enjoy this series. I know the celebrity world sometimes seems like an alien planet, but I believe it really might be like that. I could relate to the stress, and to now knowing how to deal with it, especially as a teenager. (I actually was waiting for her to blow up much much earlier in the book!)
I do hope that the next book has a new arc. Each of the previous seems to end with a "mea culpa" to the press. I am sure there are other ways to have drama, and to resolve the conflict.
Not what I was expecting when I picked up this book. But, still a pretty good book. Gained a lot of knowledge on fashion in the 2000s. Good girl main character, which I was hoping for a “paparazzi (badgirl) princess.” Nothing outstanding. Author’s story is cool though, the fact that she is/was actually a journalist during the time of this books release.
P.S. this was the only book in the series I read so take that into consideration with my review
So far this was the best novel in the Secrets of My Hollywood Life series. It dove a little more into how Kaitlin was dealing with all of the changes in her life. Kaitlin struggles with anxiety and panic attacks, and as someone who also struggles with anxiety I could relate to how she was feeling. Like the other novels, it’s a fun and quick read! Looking forward to the next one!
This was not my favorite installment of the series. Kaitlin was a bit too annoying for me this time around. I get it. It made sense but I didn't enjoy her character as much. Still I couldn't put the book down. My reading candy streak continues. I've already got book 5 on my kindle app!
I enjoyed my time reading this book, but it's not my favorite of the series by any means. I found myself annoyed with Kaitlin for most of the book. I empathized with her and understood how she felt wanting to be her own person and make her own choices about her future. She put off meetings and then just made stupid choices throughout the book. I enjoyed Sky more than I did Kaitlin in this book.

Kaitlin Burke is finally experiencing something that everyone in Hollywood, at least those on the small screen, hates the most... having the show that made you a household name come to an end. That's right folks - Family Affair is finally coming to a close, and you know that's making the headlines on all the tabloids.
However, that isn't the only thing making the headlines.
After her show comes to an end, everyone wants to know "what's next for Kaitlin?" She has several options, including getting another role on another show, moving to the big screen, or just taking a break. Everyone is pressuring her in every way possible, and for Kaitlin, she just does not have a clue about what is next.
What does happen next, though, is Kaitlin becomes a paparazzi princess. That's right, she becomes another Britney and Lindsay. Photos of Kaitlin partying with some new friends are beginning to cover the tabloids, and it's something she would not want while her future career is already being questioned. Does she really want to go from the A-List to the D's in a heartbeat?
It doesn't really help when she is already having problems with Liz and her own personal family affairs. Will Kaitlin be able to fix the situation before it gets out of hand? Or will the next line out of her mouth be "Hi, I'm Kaitlin and I'm a..."
PAPARAZZI PRINCESS is the fourth installment in the SECRETS OF MY HOLLYWOOD LIFE series. Usually as a series drags on, the plot becomes tiring. But Jen Calonita continues to make her successful series appealing and dramatic.
Kaitlin continues to be a likeable character who seems to be the only one in Hollywood with her head on straight. The series in itself gives the readers an inside look at the supposed glitz and glamour of being famous. PAPARAZZI PRINCESS in itself lets us see how easy it is to be photographed in the worst possible light. With this installment, readers are able to see that the price that comes with being famous is your very own privacy.
A light, quick read (I did it in one day). I grabbed it off of the "new books" table at the library on a whim and didn't realize that it was actually the fourth book in a series, however, aside from the mysterious incident in Vegas it did a pretty good job of standing alone.
Kaitlin is a 17-year-old girl who has been on the same sitcom since she was 4 (yet it somehow aired for 15 years, gotta love editing) and is crushed that it is ending. Her family and management team are busy pressing her into choosing a next project, her best friend is busy picking out a college, and her boyfriend is tied up with lacrosse and Kaitlin is having a hard time getting anyone to listen to her. She accidentally falls in with a twosome that lives for the paparazzi - they even have their own photographer that they tip off as to their whereabouts to make sure they have a fresh photo each day.
I liked the "secrets" that were presented as asides, and I liked Kaitlin and especially Austin, but I probably won't go back and read the beginning of the series or even the book that comes after this one. I thought the frequent mention of how much everything cost and what brand it was got tedious. Kaitlin's mother also drove me nuts - I loved seeing her get put in her place.
Money gripe - they stay in a $16,500/night resort on vacation. Their multimillion dollar home was purchased with Kaitlin's earnings. Yet she has a $300/month allowance? I understand that there are limits, but I had that much disposable income when I was in high school over ten years ago. It just seemed low to me. Especially since the whole family is living off of her success.
The latest installment of the "My Hollywood Life" series, in which teen actress Kaitlyn has to deal with her hit show going off the air after 15 years and struggling to figure out what to do next in her career. She ends up falling in with two of Hollywood's biggest partiers (who I'm sure are based off Paris and Nicole...) and begins making headlines for her company and life more than her career.
I like this series because it's fun - pretty much G-rated, surprisingly - and there are lots of little insider "secrets" the author peppers throughout the book, such as why stars love doing voiceovers for commercials or why celebs end up owning restaurants, etc. Kaitlyn is extremely likable as a main character and you can't help but feel empathy for her plight, as her momager is pushing her to make ridiculous career moves, not even caring what Kaitlyn herself wants, and it feels like a pretty accurate depiction of what a wholesome teen star would actually be going through, emotions and actions both.
I was a little disappointed that Kaitlyn's boyfriend was such a minor character in this. I kind of wonder what they see in each other anymore if they honestly see or talk to each other as little as the book makes it seem, but whatever. But the book itself was fun, even if the plot was a little predictable (will Kaitlyn realize that she's making a mess of her life before she gets out of control???), and I think this is the exact sort of book/series that teens and preteens will love.
There is a reason this book is titled Paparazzi Princess. When Kaitlin’s show is canceled, she is getting a lot of bad advice and she caves in to peer pressure. Oh Kaitlin, I am so disappointed. I felt like I could always count on you to be a good role model. This time around, you went off the deep end hanging out with the wrong crowd and making bad choices.
Reading about Kaitlin in all these new scenarios was so different than the earlier books. She was out of control big time! She was going to parties and spending all her money shopping. Ahhh! I am glad that she finally comes around and realizes that she needs to stop acting like this.
I like this series because it shows the good and the bad of what goes on behind-the-scenes in Hollywood. I love Kaitlin and I am so happy that she learned from her mistakes. That’s how real life is sometimes and Jen Calonita is not afraid to write about it.
Each book in the series has a theme of its own. Paparazzi Princess is about growing up and learning from mistakes. I wonder what is in store for Kaitlin in the next book, Broadway Lights.

Leopard print! This print is a bit more edgy than the earlier books and it fits in perfectly with the story line. Love it.
Awesome continuous of the book! Totally recommend it, even though it gets boring at times! Lol
Family affair has come into an end and everyone is lost in words for it. Everyone in Kaitlin's family is freaking. However, she is faced with some real stuff and fights with her best friend Liz. She meets Ava and Lauren who end up being total tools and a distraction for her but she figured it out herself before it was too late! She has a panic attack while at a photo shoot for Sure magazine because Ava and Lauren showed up uninvited and unexpectedly. She runs to the hospital and tells everyone how she really feels and that she wants mom and Nadine to back off a little and have a little time for her to breath and take up on the opportunities she actually wants not them. They all agree understand and everyone apologies to her. Sky becomes very friendly. Once Kaitlin gets her act together she notices that she lets a lot of opportunities go by because of how he was acting but she was lucky enough to still get a roll in a broadway show called Meeting of the Minds. She's moving to New York with her family including Liz because she got into the program at NYU. And she has planned everything out with her boyfriend Austin!
I don't remember where I found this title, but once I picked it up, I realized that this was book 3 in a series. I was so disappointed! I was even debating tossing it back and rerequesting it after I had read the first few, but decided against it when thinking about other YA books I had read out of order and it wasn't too bad. And this wasn't too bad! An entertaining read if anything.
Girl is an actress and has been on some tv show for pretty much her entire life and now has to deal with it being cancelled and moving on to the next phrase of her life and she isn't taking it very well. Her costars are moving on with new projects and she can't seem to grasp what is happening so she makes friends with some party girls in town. Her rep gets slightly tarnished in the process, but nothing major, so everything ends up all happy in the end and she accepts what is happening in her life. Could be very annoying, but I kind of enjoyed this book and can't wait to read more. It wasn't too real and it wasn't too fake, it worked well for a YA novel. Children acting like adults usually annoy me, but when thrown into situations like this, I can accept it.
Family Affair's ending is getting closer and closer and Kaitlin still hasn't decided what she wants to do after the show is over. Kaitlin's family and friends are pushing her in all sorts of directions and she's not sure what she wants. On top of the career trouble, she's also had a big fight with her best friend, Liz. Then Kaitlin meets two of Hollywood's biggest party animals. Hanging out with the girls seems like fun at first, but is it really worth all the drama?
When I saw this in the bookstore the day it came out, I just had to have it. It sat on my bookshelf for a couple of weeks, but once I started reading I was hooked. I've been a big fan of this series for awhile now and this installment didn't really disappoint. I only have two complains. One is that I was expecting more drama involving partying and the paparazzi, since the title IS called Paparazzi Princess. Two is that some of the moments in the book were too cheesy, even for me.
Overall, I thought it was a very solid book in this series and I can't wait for the next one.
Kaitlin Burke is under a lot of pressure, FAMILY AFFAIR is about to go off air and she have been on it since she was in kindergarden so she has a lot of memory of it, her parent, Lancey and Nadine are pressuring for her to find another big job and Kaitlin and her best friend, Liz, are fighting. Ava and Lauren seem to understand Kaitlin. Kaitlin starts hanging out with them. But they are party animals and they don't really have good press about them self. People are starting to give Kaitlin some bad press since they are hanging out are more often.
I don't really like Kaitlin's mom. Kaitlin can't do anything she wants to. All her mom care about is money and she looking good. She doesn't understand Kaitlin at all. She wants Kaitlin to do a t,.v. show that shows what Kaitlin do with her daily life so she can be in it and she doesn't want Kaitlin to do the movie she wants. Kaitlin's mom want Kaitlin to be a rock start so she can be more famous but Kaitlin doesn't want to at all. When Kaitlin buy stuff she can only use three hundred dollar a week while her mom can use much more.
