This book of poems contains two parts, 'Giving Birth' and 'The Lake that Whispers to Itself'; the first part celebrates family, the second, a poem sequence in four seasons, commemorates a lake.
One of my favorite new finds. I keep reading the same poems over and over again because they have new depth for me each time I come back to them. One particularly interesting section in the book details the four seasons of a lake where she goes to write. Living in Minnesota, I find so much natural poetry in simply observing the changing of the seasons. Here it's the entire ecosystem of a lake. Reminds you that we are so insignificant, in the most beautiful way.
This was a lovely book. I liked a lot of her poems. The only reason I didn't love the book was because it seems like she swims, writes poetry and looks at the lake all day. I mean, nice for her, but perhaps I'm a little jealous... Just a world that is a little too removed from mine. :-)
