Calm, Cool, and Connected: 5 Digital Habits for a More Balanced Life was a fantastic read. I really needed to read this book at this time in my life. It breaks down the word HABIT into five easy ways to balance your use of digital devices.

H = Hold Down the Off Button
A = Always Put People First
B = Brush daily: Live with a Clean Conscience
I = I Will Go Online with Purpose
T = Take a Hike

Read the book to get the full context of H.A.B.I.T. It is a very practical and useful list of ways to balance yo

Why I Choose this Book:

This author. I've read another book by her and it was totally spot-on. Plus, I'm always looking at ways to be more balanced in life - particularly when it comes to technology. I've been working on it an extra amount during the last few months, so reading this book was quite timely.

What I Thought about this Book:

Y'all. You should read it. Really. It's so easy to read - like to the point that when I went to write this review I was like "I think it was maybe 70ish pages." An

A brief little guide to remember the important things in life. Really more of a glorified magazine article, and a little Christiany for my tastes--but in the way that the Five Love Languages (who did the introduction and has worked with the author) is still brimming with good ideas.

These are all suggestions I've had before, but the "HABIT" acronym simplifies it and helps put some extremely simply steps in palce.

I knew I really needed to read this book and that the author would have plenty of things to say that I needed to hear. I was right. When I received the book I thought it was such a small book. But I don't think anything was left out. For a book about forming habits for a more balanced life, it was well balanced in information, in approach, in connecting thoughts, etc. It was a well balanced book and I not only gained wisdom from it but I enjoyed it!

My Review of Calm, Cool, and Connected

Connecting To A More Peaceful Life

I found that changing my habits really does change my life. In Calm, Cool, and Connected, Arlene Pellicane has written a very helpful book about developing deeper relationships with God, our families, and others. By connecting personally, and using our electronic devices in a more moderate way, we can experience a more peaceful and balanced life.
Inside this book are many practical tips and useful ideas for using electronic

A trend of sorts emerging in the Christian publishing world are books on Netiquette. I’ve already reviewed one that was supposedly about the dangers of taking too many selfies, but somehow managed to turn itself into a hysterical attack on homosexuals. Well, there’s a new kid on the block, and this time the danger is more omnipresent. Yes, the Internet. But, also, social media. Television. These items are on the “tune out” list of Calm, Cool and Connected, an actually pretty reasonable book and ...more

I had the pleasure of meeting Arlene Pellicane in person at She Speaks 2017. When she said her new book was coming out this fall, I jumped at the chance to review it. I have heard her speak several times on Focus on the Family, and I enjoy her practical approach.

This book is for anyone who feels like their phone has become a dominating, overwhelming force. I am not much of a phone person, but I live with several people who are. I enjoyed the practical offerings and non-judgmental tone of this bo

Arlene Pellicane's Calm, Cool, and Connected: 5 Digital Habits for a More Balanced Life offers practical wisdom about managing our technology use.

I remember a day when the world wasn't so consumed by smartphones, TV, and social media. But I also remember a time when there weren't too many other options, either. While I didn't love when my parents forced me to go outside -- I was far too much a nerd -- I do appreciate that I was encouraged to be creative and use my imagination as a kid. Sadly, a

Arlene Pellicane provides both an insightful and practical look at the ways in which our digital habits impact our lives and relationships with others. She cautions us to remember why it is important to manage this aspect of our lives not just manage it for our children (If you want another good read, check out Growing Up Social too which focuses more on this aspect for kids). The book is written in a clear and succinct format that enables you remember it clearly so that you can focus on applyin ...more

When I received the invitation to review Calm, Cool, and Connected by Arlene Pellicane, this was the opening paragraph of the invitation.

Do you ever find yourself mindlessly scrolling through social media, sometimes late into the night? Or maybe you’re prone to answer “just one more text,” even though your child is desperately waiting to speak with you. Perhaps your phone is the first thing you reach for in the morning, a Netflix binge is on your nightly agenda, and you’ve caught yourself textin

This is a timely book and easy to read. I have read others on this topic and really like this one. The plan given by the author using the letters of the word HABIT will be helpful to anyone who needs to put down their phone and connect with the people in their life. Our phones/technology are overtaking our lives, and this would be a beneficial read for anyone. Everyone can learn something from it I feel.

I appreciated that the author wasn't "preachy;" she just shared her ideas and tips that are h

There are 5 habits in this book to help you set your phone down and look up. These habits are set up like a daily devotional, only I spent a full week working on each one, making sure that I had each one mastered before moving on to the next one.
Spending this time setting my phone aside, picking up my kids and having fun with my family was something I didn’t know I was missing. What is even more, I didn’t know how much my kids were doing the same thing. This was the best part of making these cha

In today's age, our phones are an extension of ourselves whether we realize it or not! And for some, the topic on the overuse of technology can be a bit of a sore spot. Arlene's writing style is fresh and inviting and she brings up valid points using the breakdown of the word "Habit" to bring us back down to earth when it comes to the use of our "digital pacifier." So, don't be afraid of charging your phone in the other room, and remember it is truly well with your phone (if you let it) I receiv ...more

While technology is developing at rapid speeds, there are some disadvantages to it. In Calm, Cool and Connected, Arlene Pellicane examines how to give technology its proper place in our lives. And let's face it, everyone can probably use a little more balance. It is all about moderation and being intentional with our technology. I definitely recommend ...more
