Twisted Luck

Rate this book
When I told him to go to hell, I never realized it would be a trip for two.

All I wanted was luck—the good kind. I’d lost my job, a jerk hacked my bank account, and I caught my best friend screwing my fiancé. When stood up by my Internet date in a bar, I met the perfect man—tall, dark, and handsome in the most expensive suit. He was out of my league, but I didn’t want forever.

I barely remember the words he whispered under the veil of sin and seduction. I didn’t believe in Satan, God, Heaven or Hell. I thought he was kidding. A figment. A dream.

I was wrong. With one, breathless yes, my fate was sealed.

Businessman by day, demon by night, Leo Weston now owns my soul in exchange for good luck. Time is ticking as he works to secure my mother’s soul, too. Somehow, I have to take him down despite him being so damned gorgeous, glib, and devious. Will my gift of twisted luck be enough to save her and protect my heart?

Mia Downing started creating heroes at age four, but her heroes back then rode ponies to the rescue and only kissed her on the cheek. Today, Mia’s heroes still rescue those in need, but the price of their toys and the expertise of their seduction leads to a whole lot more.

When Mia isn’t busy creating new stories for her readers, she ensures justice runs smoothly in a New England courthouse. She lives on a small farm with her family, and enjoys horses and knitting.

Fun facts: Mia can juggle poorly, create balloon animals, and face paint. She was the hit entertainment of two family parties. No clown suits were involved.

It's been awhile since I've read anything from Mia, and Twisted Luck was so worth that wait! Let me tell you guys that this was one great read! Parts of it were so unexpected, and the romance between these characters was interesting to say the least. Who knew that one little wish could be so life altering...

So not only was this book thoroughly entertaining, but I also just loved how Olivia worked things out to her advantage. She was clever in her determination to protect her mother, and she was just such an admirable character. Leo, on the other hand, had no idea what he was getting into with Olivia, and for all his suave charm it was great to see that he was the one charmed in the end. Overall, I can't recommend this one highly enough. If you enjoy a good paranormal romance, I promise that this one will be perfect for you!

Well, this was a fun one with an interesting twist. ;) It's also my first Mia Downing read, but I can pretty much guarantee that it won't be my last.

Poor Olivia. It was hard not to sympathize with her from the beginning of Twisted Luck. It was also easy to see how Olivia could fall for Leo's charm, even without magic on his side.

As smooth and charming as Leo was, Olivia had luck on her side and a determination to protect her mom. She just had to figure out exactly how to use her luck to get back her soul and keep her mom from loosing hers.

Leo had no idea what he was in for when he tricked Olivia out of her soul. Between her and the affect her crazy luck was having on him and the pressure he was getting from his "father," Leo had his hands full.

The smexiness in Twisted Luck was pretty hot from the start, but the more time that Olivia and Leo spent together, the more emotionally connected they became. It was kind of fun to watch Leo try to function without magic, courtesy of Olivia's luck.

Twisted Luck had fun, witty & smart characters. Plenty of tension, heat and humor. A not so evil demon and a human that wasn't willing to give up her morals along with her soul. This one had pretty much everything I like about a good romance. Oh, and if I was the type of reader who judged a book by its cover, this one would have most definitely won me over. ;)

I received Twisted Luck in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Oh goodness, I liked this one. For a demon, Leo is a pretty good guy. I mean, he works the soul exchange and everything, but he feels bad about it. On the plus side, he's willing to learn new things. True, it takes a while for him to figure some of those things out, but he does try. I guess it's also true that he kinda has to learn new things given the accidental restrictions Olivia places on him, but he rolls with it.

He rolls with it and ends up a better demon after all is said and done.

Meanwhile, Olivia is doing her best to save both herself and her mother. The gift she asked for is her ace in the hole because good luck can do incredible things when she needs it most. I'm not saying this is a consequence of her luck, but somebody ended up with a well-hung demon and if you're going to bang a demon, banging a well-hung one should be just one of the perks. AMIRITE?!?!

Highly entertaining with a smart, sly heroine who uses her head as well as her luck when she finds herself in a sticky situation. I appreciate that in a heroine. So much.

Olivia has had some bad luck. After losing her job, her money, her fiancé, and her best friend, she was facing the loss of her apartment as well. Hoping to quench more than one thirst, Olivia heads to the bar to meet a date. Enter Leo, the demon more than happy to satisfy her needs... For the price of one soul. Of course, it doesn't end there. Twists and turns of expectations and emotions, Olivia and Leo do what they can to survive the arrangement that binds them together.

Twisted Luck by Mia Downing was such a fun read. It was different from anything I have previously read. The characters were fun, the plot was interesting, and I enjoyed the twists that popped in. The only issue I had was that the supporting characters were an important part of Olivia's plan/life, but were not even an afterthought at the end. Overall, I think this was a great read.

I found this book while poking around on Netgalley. I have never read anything by Mia Downing and the cover caught my eye. Hello Mr Abs! And, is that a feather in your pants, are you just happy for me to read you? Needless to say, it made me stop and read the blurb. And, I'm glad I did, since I realized I have read a bajillion vampire and shifter books, but only a small handful of books with demons as a romantic lead. Eager to add to the handful, I requested this book and was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review. (Thank you!)

And, honestly, I really liked it! Leo and Olivia were a well matched couple, as individuals, intellectually, and magically. I enjoyed that Oliva's luck was able to control the magic around her and her home, that Leo was forced to act like a human, and all of the antics that followed. Toast! I loved that Olivia had her own hidden agenda - the scenes with Annie and Babu are great. And, the best part of all was how devoted Olivia was to saving her mother's soul.

That being said, Leo was no slouch, either. I liked that he was willing to try new things (showers!), to learn new skills (TOAST!), and to adapt to whatever came his way. The fact that he was smoking hot, smart, and talented only made it better. The scene in his office....whew! And, even though he was a demon with his subtle and not-so-subtle reminders that he controlled Olivia's fate, you could tell that he had a good heart. Particularly during the trip to Italy. His phrasing there is sure to touch even the most jaded reader.

Characters and romance aside, I enjoyed the mechanics of the book. The romantic build felt natural for the paranormal setting and the way Leo and Olivia met. The paranormal elements themselves were new and interesting - the notion of betting on futures for souls was particularly fun to consider. In fact, this is probably the strongest point, to me. I liked that it was set in Connecticut in an area that had both woods and marshes - the atmospheric elements were fairly weak, though (I still don't have a clear mental picture of Olivia's apartment).

My only issue with this book, and the reason it lost a star, is that that the ending felt rushed. The rest of the book has a steady pacing and rhythm. Then, we had all of this action in the last 10% of the book. Deals are being struck, power is shifting, and I had to re-read it just to make sure I had everything straight.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book and can happily recommend it to people interested in a fun slice of world building and a romantic romp between demons and humans.

My Review:
Wow. This book was pure craziness. Twisted Luck is right...and thank goodness Olivia wished for things the way she did.

Up until this point, Olivia has had rotten, awful luck. She finally hits rock bottom and goes out drinking...and that's when Leo walked into her life and screwed her over more. Seriously not cool. But I liked how she never gives up fighting. More than luck, she has hope and that's huge because she needs that so that she might be able to save both herself and her mother.

And then there's Leo. Wow, the visuals of him on the page were mouth-watering. Sigh...seriously, how can you not be drawn to a confident, sexy guy in a well-cut suit. But that pretty exterior hides a lot. I'll admit, despite his pretty appearance, I wasn't sure he was ever going to work for me. But then his magic started going wonky and I slowly started falling for him. I LOVED it when he started showing cracks of vulnerability. OMG, I definitely fell in love with him...eventually.

I'm not going to post any spoilers, but I have to mention those last few scenes in the book. OMG, so much love for how that all played out. Seriously, forget twisted luck...it was twisting and tearing at my heart. So much heartache that made the end of the book so, so good. I loved the way it all played out.

I'll admit, I'm a Mia Downing fan...and it's been entirely too long since she's released. This one made the wait worth it all. I loved it so much. There were twists and turns and dark and light and so much possibility even in the face of horrible odds. I had no idea how she would write herself out of this book. But she did it and did it brilliantly.

I definitely recommend this one. Just be ready. It's a crazy, demon filled ride and I pretty much promise that you'll never see that end coming. I loved it!

Hey there!! Mia Downing is a new author to me, boy does she have a creative imagination ...this book is so wild. I LOVED IT!! I can not believe that every one has not considered what it would be like to give the devil your life in trade for this or that ... something you have always wanted in your life? Not saying it is right or wrong? Just saying it would be a very interesting situation!! I never get when people say "This book was not a believable book". WHAT??! Are you kidding me, not that I know of does the devil ever come to you personally, not that Jesus or God has done that either. I know, I know this is a subject not everyone likes to chat on ...but I think a lot of faith or your religious beliefs are going on faith ...trusting in something that you may not always see or touch. I think this story is a walk on the wild side so to speak, it doesn't need to be believable ... 'cause it is Mia writing a wild ride that is just has a very very creative take or style ...I enjoyed the read, laughed a whole, whole bunch. Couldn't believe where she took us and I had a bit of a clue ...but wondered a lot of what would happen next!! Quick read for me. I really feel that Olivia is so so naive, a little out to lunch or few cards short of a deck so to speak. She is how a lot of ladies are portrayed in movies or books, it kind of bugs me, if anything bugs me about this book (thi that is the one item that kind of rubs me a bit like wait a moment!! I want ladies to always have a back bone. (BUT maybe I just got the wrong impression or maybe the author totally meant something else??!!!) Well done, Mia!! I enjoyed this read and would not hesitate to read another one of her books in the near future!!! ( ;

Let me start off with just saying how much I loved this book! I went into this not really knowing what to expect. Maybe some romance, some action, but what I got was so, so much more. Twisted Luck is very well written and entertaining. There is not a dull moment in the book. You will keep turning the pages, wanting to know what happens to Olivia.

We know that Olivia sells her soul to Leo. Olivia has to try and find a way to get it back, or at least prevent Leo from getting her mother’s soul. Not only is Olivia fighting to save her soul, she’s also helping her mother plan her wedding. She wants to be happy at her mother’s upcoming marriage, but it’s just one more thing to stress about. In the process, Leo’s magic starts to diminish and Olivia tries her hardest to break her contract. I don’t want to give away too much, you just need to read it. You need to read it. Seriously, read it. It doesn’t matter if you’ve never read a paranormal romance novel in your life, pick this up and you don’t be disappointed!

If I could give it more than 5 stars, I totally would. I’ve never read a book by Mia Downing before, but after reading Twisted Luck, I’ll be sure to check out her other works. This book is ah-mazing! Easily one of my favorite reads of 2017!

5/5

This was not only a fun book to read but it was very unexpected. As a reader, you always bring your own expectations and preconceived notions of a character to the book at the beginning but what you don't usually expect to find is to have those notions and expectations not only blown out of the water but completely revamped. Leo is the perfect evilly exciting demon at the beginning. Hot, sexy, wild, he hits all the slots but then as their relationship grows you see him grow as well. With a simple little wish, like a bit of good luck his entire being is transformed into a hero. But he's not the only hero. This book is different. It offers up two heroes! Olivia is the one that saves Leo but Leo also saves her. I'm not going to give any spoilers but let's just say you will NOT believe the ending!!

I really enjoyed this book. I've always loved demon books, especially those I read from Kathy Love, both her Devilishly Series and New Orleans Vampires, so when Ms. Downing offered me the opportunity to read this one, I jumped at the chance and wasn't disappointed. I was engaged from the beginning and had quite a few laugh out loud moments with Leo and the food. I loved how Olivia worked her 'good' luck. My only issue is that it started to feel a little long towards the end but otherwise engaging from start to finish.

If you had a bad luck streak, wouldn't you ask for "Luck"? The good kind!!
Without going into too many details of this book, I really did enjoy Twisted Luck! The chemistry was pupating between Olivia and Leo, the two main characters. I thought Olivia was strong and stood her ground when it came to Leo, especially with there undoubtable "connection". I also thought Leo was a pretty good guy being that he was a demon.
There were some parts that were slow for me, but for the most part kept me engaged. I thought the story line was interesting and that Ms. Downing did a great job. I would probably pick up another book of hers.

Leo didn't know what he was signing up for when he signed for Olivia's soul. But then again neither did Olivia. This book was unexpectedly funny throughout. Olivia is creative in her pursuit to save her and her mothers soul.

So, what did I like about it?
Quite a lot actually!
Mia Downing is a new-to-me author and I found writing style very easy to read. Her descriptions, characters and plot development engaged me from the very first page and kept me reading. The first chapter sets up the pace and feel of the story; introduces our leading lady, Olivia Denning, her relevant personal background and her romantic counterpart, Leo Weston.
I prefer to read stories about intelligent, witty heroines with plenty of gumption who never give up and alpha males who are classed as bad boys but have a warm heart buried inside waiting to be appreciated. Our two leading characters here do not disappoint. There’s banter as well as chemistry; Leo and Olivia were a well matched couple, as individuals, intellectually and magically and the pace of the romantic build felt very natural and realistic. I enjoyed that Olivia’s luck was able to control the magic around her and her home but the she didn’t rely on it or get greedy and that Leo was forced to act like a human - I’ll just say toast! I loved that Olivia had her own hidden agenda - the scenes with Annie and Babu are great – and how devoted Olivia was to saving her mother's soul. I love a truly unredeemable villain to hate and Leo’s father, Samuel, was perfect in that role.
I loved the paranormal world that Ms Downing created; the demon hierarchy and the idea of betting on futures for souls.
Although the sex starts in that first chapter (and *phew* brilliantly written – very hot and steamy), the romance element creeps in later which I loved.

So, ummm, was there anything I disliked about it?
Not disliked as such but I did feel that that the ending felt rushed, so much so that I felt I had to knock it down a star. The rest of the book has a good steady pace and rhythm. Then, we had an explosion of action in the final 5% of the book; deals being struck, power shifting, problems resolved and secrets revealed but I still finished the book without a definitive answer to Leo’s demon status and his skill set. After the amazing read to that point, I felt a bit deflated and let down.

So, basically what I’m saying is...
This is a great paranormal romance, I really enjoyed it; it was such a fun read! The characters were fun, the plot was interesting, and I enjoyed the twists that popped in. I would recommend this book if you like books in the adult/erotica genre or paranormal romances, however, you are looking for a no sex romance, then this isn’t for you.

I want you to know that I was lucky enough to be given a digital version of this book for free from the publisher (Season Publishing) after making a request via Netgally.com in exchange for an honest review. Thanks for the advance copy.

When Olivia meets a handsome stranger at the bar where she’s drinking away her sorrows, all she wants from him is a good time. Unfortunately for Liv, she gets a lot more than she bargained for. Leo Weston is a demon, and with the Virgin blood that was spilled that night, she signed away her soul - for a bit of good luck. Now Leo’s boss, Samuel, wants to steal Olivia’s mother’s soul, and Liv is determined not to let that happen. The only way she can stop it? Is if she wins Leo’s heart, and considering he’s a demon, that may be impossible. But Olivia knows she has to try.

Oh my gosh!! I’m not sure what I was expecting with this book, but I was super impressed with it. Liv was a sweetie, and she has this incredibly sassy nature that had me laughing all throughout the book. Leo is darkly handsome and incredibly seductive, but his cluelessness at times was also freaking hilarious. Liv and Leo had this undeniable chemistry from that first moment they locked eyes at the bar, and I was rooting for them the whole time. My first book by Mia Downing, but I know it won’t be the last!!! This book gets the ReadsBySarita stamp of approval for sure.

Twisted Luck was one of them reads where I'm slightly on the fence in regards to its characters It did keep my interest but there were just a few niggles that dragged it down a star for me.
This for me is more of an individual preference than a black mark for the book and this no way takes away from the flow of the writing as Twisted Luck was expertly written, It is just a personal opinion and might not be an issue for anyone else reading this.
So here we go, Olivia has had a string of bad luck, enter Leo WELL WELL!!! upon first meeting Leo as Oliva is drowning herself in tequila at a local bar I thought, here we go, real bad boy, won't take no crap from no one yay my type of anti-hero this is going to be epic and here lies my problem, apart from the fact that Leo is an honest to god Demon and not just in the sack I found him just a bit, well, wussy. I wanted him to stand up to his kind of a dad Sam and stop wimping out, grow a pair you're a demon for god's sake.
I also didn't think our Leo would have forgotten how to have a pee even if it has been years this is just something that you don't forget and finally the use of the word the magic, it was the magic this, the magic that, it got a bit irritating after a bit, would have liked to see a different word occasionally maybe my powers or I would have even settled for Va Va Voom for a change rather than the magic.
now I have that out of the way I'm going to explain why you should read this. Twisted luck was apart from my above points a page turner. I may be slightly biased in regard to Leo as I prefer a slightly darker hero or in my case anti-hero to drool over, but if you like a more human hero this book is for you.
I really do get what Mia was trying to convey Our Demon Leo transforming into a more human version of himself in a way un-demonising Leo and showing a warmer more flawed version of him as he slowly learned what it was like to love and be loved by Olivia and also reside without the use of here we go lol THE MAGIC!!!!.
And this was accomplished and pulled off with finesse and humour so if you like stories where the girl redeems the guy and they live HEA then this is the book for you I passed a very enjoyable few hours immersed in this and that's what Twisted Luck is Enjoyable and not too hard, an easy warm read that you can snuggle up with when you just want some R & R and some downtime.
I received an e-copy of this book free from NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.

Cheated, robbed, jobless and almost on the street! A streak of bad luck had Olivia on the path of despair and blind to other possibilities. A few many drinks and an offer dragged her toward a situation that could have disastrous results, and not just for her. I laughed with Olivia's predicament and how she was handling the problem. A strong character, determined, not at all selfish and who was not daunted by her plight, that was her. Leo, the mysterious and intriguing demon was forced to do anything to ensure his position and well-being until his assignment was Olivia. Interesting how his reality changed. First book that I read from this author and liked the entertaining and interesting situations with some suspense, humor, romance, heated passion and descriptions and narrations that caught my attention. Voluntarily reviewed this copy that I received free from Candid Books Reviews and I liked.

The cover and the blurb drew me in, but what was between the pages kept me there!

I had not read any books by this author, so it was wonderful to give Twisted Luck a try, and I am really glad I did.

I have dabbled into the paranormal, and only read really good story-tellers in this genre. Ms. Downing is well on her way to being stalked!

Twisted Luck was apropos to treating the readers to a fun, twisted, steamy romance!

Olivia and Leo were just great characters! I was rooting for them both, for different, yet the same reasons!

I received an advanced reader copy, and this is my honest and voluntary review.

I enjoyed reading Twisted Luck; it is a interesting blend of plots within plots, emotions, and decisions. Olivia's character was full of depth and personality. I was angry and sad on her behalf multiple times, and I cheered with her when things when her way. Her strength of character was amazing throughout the story as was her determination. Leo's character growth from the beginning to the end of the book was well written and, though it is a paranormal story, believable. I confess to reading the entire book in one sitting... I just had to see what happened next!

I received an ARC copy of this book and voluntarily chose to leave a review.

Not a bad book, not a great one either. I really enjoyed the beginning of the book, but started to lose interest when we found out Leo's a demon. The storyline wasn't very believable. I felt like if the writer had taken a different approach to explain who Leo really was, the story would've been better. My second issue with this book was that I didn't like Olivia, the female lead. I just couldn't connect with her character.

Demons are my favorite paranormal characters...the good kind. And Leo Weston definitely fits the bill!
I fell in love with this occasionally arrogant, occasionally clueless demon and was rooting for him and the smart and sassy Olivia right from the very beginning.
A well-written story with just the right balance of suspense and humor, Twisted Luck is an enjoyable read that I highly recommend to any and all paranormal romance fans.

I was really ‘lucky’ to win this signed copy of Mia’s book, it was sent by magic all the way across the pond!

I have read many of Mia’s books being introduced when I first bought a Kindle and purchased a free ebook and then I was hooked.

This one is full of humour I could easily of made many highlighted passages. If you like Paranormal this is easy to read, four main characters which doesn’t complicate the story line. And don’t forget the magic!
Thanks again Mia, love it! x

I've not read this author before but the blurb sounded intriguing.
Olivia was having a crap day, drinking herself into oblivion. She was ripe for the picking when Leo sat by her, too handsome for his own good. He was a demon with a job to do, never came across anyone like Olivia before though. Did she have powers of her own or did she just outsmart him?
She's do anything to save her mother's life, but will she survive herself?
This was actually a fun story and I loved the twist.

Intense from the beginning. I was sucked in immediately.
Olivia is fresh out of luck heading down a rabbit hole of horrible horrible events. Why not take her out when she is at her lowest?
That’s what the attractive and irresistible demon in a suit does.
Olivia is NOTHING like anyone he has ever met and it was hilarious to see how she takes control of her life.

This is filled with humor, suspense, and Heat.
I highly recommend.
