There was a town isolated from the outside world, surrounded by a 4,000 meter tall cliff.
The town was full of chimneys.
Smoke rose from everywhere, clouding the sky above.
Smoke, smoke, from morning till night.
The people living in the chimney town were encaged in black smoke,
and did not know about the blue sky.
They did not know about the shining stars.

The town was in the mid

I would love to give this work a 4 star rating for just the gorgeous art alone, but... it’s entirely Munashichi’s art that brings it alive, but the celebrity producer (the entertainer Nishino) has been extremely reluctant to give credit to the original artist, using this book as a personal vanity project for promoting himself. This hasn’t really been talked about overseas, but the book and anime adaption are being marketed in a way that is extremely close to an multi-level-marketing scheme, invo ...more

Es una cucada de libro <3

Está escrito en japonés e inglés, así que puedes disfrutar tanto de la historia como de los dibujos aunque no entiendas japo :)
While this is a touching story of a boy and his most bizarre friend, the visual style left something to be desired. The characters are an interesting bunch but the background is so cluttered with buildings and architectural designs that they quite overwhelm the people on whom we should be focusing.

Also, this book was originally written in a foreign language. It has English translations but the print is so small that you have to squint to make out the words.

A big picture book with a Halloween mood and a strange atmosphere. I quite enjoyed the background, a little steampunk, a little futuristic with a lot of pollution. The art conveyed well this atmosphere and there were some very well done backgrounds, but on several pages everything was a bit cluttered so reading the pictures wasn't easy. Maybe more contrast between characters and backgrounds would have improved the experience. The theme of friendship was more or less satisfying, as it was challen ...more

I loved this book. As someone learning Japanese, having both English and Japanese on the same page with closely-linked translations was a wonderful way to enjoy the story in my native English and develop my Japanese reading.

The illustrations are gorgeous and the story beautiful with great use of language and plot. I would recommend this to anyone!

Una hermosa historia, un libro lleno de maravillosas ilustraciones. Un gran cuento para leerle, antes de dormir, al niño que llevamos dentro.
