There can be little doubt that we live in an age of rapid technological advancements.  The world seems smaller and more connected than ever before.  In such an environment, there is an ongoing battle to gain the often fleeting interest of the people within this society.  This can be a difficult task in a world which is frequently characterized by the need for instant gratification.  Television, video games, social media and the Internet have become constant staples and sources of entertainment i ...more

This comedy memoir depicts an accident-prone but endearing anti-hero, Dennis Bisskit, who, after a spell in the army, is transformed into a war hero. Now, he is a man worthy of respect.

The story has some interesting themes, not least the question of whether we are architects of our own destiny. The author suggests that the choices we make and the company we keep play a decisive part. A working-class lad has limited choices. He must make the best of it. Although his family is close-knit and lovin

I truly enjoyed this delightful, well written book. The character of Dennis came alive to me, from boy to man and had me chuckling from the beginning to the end.
Stephen Ainley has developed a range of believable characters and a story line that encouraged me to continue reading. I could not put this down.
Stinky Blackshaw reminded me of a comic book character along with the other young wolf cubs.
I particularly enjoyed the poignant way that Stephen Ainley weaved in the story of Granddad and his j

What a fabulous, fun read! Appealing for all to read and a pure giggle-fest!

Dennis Bissket was born on the day WWII ended and he is very much a product of that time. As we head into the swinging sixties, Dennis is as far removed from the image of that new-fangled word 'teenager' as it is possible to be. As he lurches from crisis to crisis - being not so much accident prone as a walking catastrophe - tears of laughter ran down my face. This is a book which is almost impossible to put down. Funny,

The Dennis Bisskit Adventures Review

Well this book thoroughly tickled me throughout, cover to cover! I first had little giggles and it felt like I was reading a child’s diary, a bit like Adrian Mole but BY JOVE MISSIS it was Adrian Mole on steroids !
I grew up with Dennis !I was embarrassed at the knobby knees, I wore his uniforms! I was smacked around the head and shouted at with with him, I wept with him I did push ups with him. I felt him turn into a man
I would recommend this to all readers ,

I was kindly sent a copy of this book by the author Stephen Ainley in return of an honest review.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book it made me laugh from start to finish, anything poor Dennis does always seems to end in disaster but somehow he always manages to look like the guy who saved the day.

It's well written, it's heartwarming, sometimes sad but mainly the book is very comical. It also has a very strong message that no matter what anyone thinks, if you put your mind to it you can achieve anyth

Meet Dennis Bisskit - short, ginger-haired, has one ear bigger than the other and game for anything. From breaking world records to climbing roofs to joining the army, Dennis does it all!

I loved Ainley's writing style. Kudos to him for coming up with such a hilarious and witty story. Dennis Bisskit is definitely a likable character. In fact, he would be your favorite character as the story proceeds.

I absolutely loved the story. I don't think there is any other book out there that has made me la

I have read this book three times now.

I was born in another country and decades after the story was set. However, the authors depiction of that time period and culture was so well written that I feel like I’ve lived through those times with Dennis himself.

You’ll never read a book series like this.

The cover of this grabbed me--I will read anything having to do with scouts! Although this is not a story about scouts, exactly, it is about juvenile boys and some of the antics they get into. The voice of the Dennis is well-defined and he seems to be a 'real' boy. I liked the way the story went back and forth in points of view and time, it kept the tale interesting. Thanks to #netgalley for the chance to read #thedennisbisskitadventures ahead of publications--I am recommending it to teen boys a ...more

This book will make you laugh...a lot! It is full of humour, some obvious, some far more subtle and despite its farcical tone, it could so easily be a true story. We all know a Dennis or are one - he’s lovable and naive, yet a complete magnet for disaster. The book takes a slightly more serious path about halfway, but just as the poignancy hits, Dennis comes along and we’re back to normality! If it’s going to happen, it’s going to happen to Dennis, but he carries on with the utmost opt

I really enjoyed the book. I had a smile on my face throughout and a great many places had me in fits of laughter. I thought it was extremely well written with the odd touching moment to break up the mishaps of poor Dennis. I personally can't wait for the 2nd instalment.
