My gorgeous secretary calls me a bad boy in a good suit. I’ve built up quite a reputation over the years. Women have dubbed me "So so bad" and men have called me the biggest, baddest shark on Wall Street. They say I’ve been everywhere, done everything… And it’s all true.
I get what I want when I want it. And what I want now is Veronica. Her gorgeous curves beckon to me demanding that I succumb to her irresistible charms. But I can’t. Not yet.
You see, I have a secret. A deep dark secret lurking inside me. For years, I’ve been broken, shattered, betrayed by someone who should’ve loved me beyond reason. Now that secret is threatening to be exposed. And I can’t have that. No matter what. Not even if it costs me what I treasure the most.

Oh. My. God. That was so bad. Where do I start. From the beginning I guess, first of all, the book starts out with the author informing the reader that this book is his biography. OK first off it would be called an autobiography. However, he states he changes the names to protect the privacy of others. Yeah, if this is a true story I will eat my foot. And yes, for future reference I am that flexible. The MC is such an arrogant shit, I felt sorry for each person that came into contact with him. This book seemed to be setting the scene for book #2.
It ends in a cliffhanger. However, those of you who know me know this should only round up the stars as I adore being shoved off that cliff. It sets up the build up of excitement for the next book in my taste. This was not the case with this book. I recieved this book free of charge in order to read & review book #2, which I am no longer interested in reviewing.
Wow. This was just awful. The writing is juvenile, but the author clearly tries to overcompensate with corny and flowery "prose". The "Hero" is a scumbag charmer that sleeps with any woman he meets within minutes because he's just too irresistible to resist. IE: He wants to bang his secretary and has vivid fantasies about it, but she won't cross that line. He sleeps with some chick minutes after meeting her in a dingy bar hallway. He reconnects with his ex-gf, the heroine, screws her then visits Vegas shortly after, invites (I'm pretty sure but I may have lost count) EIGHT women to his suite. He goes as far as getting into the hot tub with them and doing pretty much everything but D in V and that's only because the heroine texts him and pathetically begs for his attention.
That's another problem with this story. The heroine is made to look like a desperate loser that's never gotten over the hero in ten years, but then you find out that
And I'm about to get personal here for a sec because the hero's defense for his behavior isn't enough. So he saw his "Uncle Mike" walk out in a towel and kiss his mother and he's traumatized. Then she tries to bribe him with toys to stay quiet and eventually, she leaves.
And I can relate to that. My first memory of my mother was of her in bed with a man not my father - my half-brother's dad. I was 3. I was upset because even at that age I knew it was wrong, but my mother guilted me into staying silent. She claimed if my dad found out that they would break up and my 3 siblings would hate me and I would ruin our family. Then my mother realized that I was a good cover for her affairs, and started taking me on "play dates" where I would get stuck playing with the kids of whichever guy she was screwing in the next room. This went on for years and countless guys and I could write a book about the damage it caused and the guilt-ridden complex I developed because of it. My mother’s behavior traumatized and shaped my trust in others and it clearly created a cheating trigger in me among several others.
My point is is that I can relate, but this book isn’t relatable. It comes off more like the memoir of a guy that’s boasting about his sexual desirability and exploits and little else. It’s hard to relate to characters that do nothing but put themselves on pedestals rather than acknowledge they’re fallible and responsible for their own unhappiness.
I know people react in different ways, and I’m even ok with the hero’s inability to love because of his experience. My problem is with the author glorifying his risqué sex life (there is a notice at the beginning of the book that condoms are used, but simply not referenced because “I do not choose to include specific safety details in the narrative as I feel that it damages the readers’ experience [Sic] of the book”, but condoms aren’t foolproof.) and completely ignoring his lack of discretion and fidelity to a woman he FINALLY admits to loving, but then turns around and makes this pathetic doormat the villain because Yeah, it’s shitty of her and screw her, too, but don’t try to paint this hero in a light that he’s a tortured little boy inside a man’s body without truthfully labeling both characters as equals.
Mr. Blackthorne did an excellent job in executing the development of his scenes so his readers weren’t left feeling as though something was lacking or thrown together. “Broken” was consistent with a quick pace, but again, nothing felt rushed.
Ashton Blackthorne paints scenes with his word choice and excellent use of descriptions. He doesn’t overlook the importance of fine details. Mr. Blackthorne doesn’t just tell the reader that he orders a drink at the bar; he describes his favored brand of scotch right down to the smoothness. We learn Mr. Blackthorne is not only college educated in business, but also Harvard educated. Cars, restaurants/establishments, brands and institutions…the specifics and details are laid out with his ability to describe scenes flawlessly. These fine details and explicit descriptions create the avenue for the reader to picture in their mind exactly what the author wants them to see. He controls what the reader visualizes and leaves nothing to vagueness.
The first book in Mr. Blackthorne’s Insatiable Series shows the reader what helped to mold him into who he is and what incidents had a profound impact on him. Even though he has moved forward from events that left behind a gash or two, they’re never forgotten. The flashbacks and memories are vivid and pull on the heartstrings of the reader.
I particularly enjoyed the candid peek into the life of Mr. Blackthorne and appreciate the glimpse of his passion regarding the publishing world and his faithful Wicked Pen Writers. I have a high level of respect for authors that ink themselves on paper, whether it’s in a character or an entire book.
“Broken”, by Ashton Blackthorne, will leave you eager to dive right into book two of his Insatiable Series. Thankfully, the second book, “Shattered, is available now.

Blackthorne weaves an appealing tale of a powerful businessman with a darkness that stems from his hidden past. Present day events and flashbacks to his past provide a view of his thoughts and desires. And the man has some carnivorous desires!
Steamy sex scenes, combined with the intrigue of his business affairs, creates a story that is hard to put down. And leaves you wanting more... Fortunately for us this is just the first chapter in a provocative series.
At first glimt, Ashton is a successful businessman. After a while you get to see more of the person and what makes him tick. Meanwhile you'e following a story. He's not only successful in business but also with the ladies in bed. There are some very hot scenes were you wish you could change places.

And his eyes are set on Veronica. But she wants more than he is able to give... and it will end up costing him what he treasures most- her.
I absolutely loved Broken, and cannot wait to read the sequel. Seriously, if you love books with bad boys in suits, hot sex, and some bdsm thrown in- then I recommend this book.
What makes us who we are? Can childhood experiences truly impact us as adults? It seems they can as we are taken on an emotional, dark and sensual journey chronicling just that. Ashton Blackthorne has written a dark series called Insatiable. He describes it as his autobiography. Mr. B, as many of his followers call him, has been more mystery than not. He has developed a brand that tantalizes, seduces and beguiles all those who encounter him. As well, he has brought together a group that some of us consider to be the best of adult, erotic and romance writers in the Indie author world! Who would have guessed that he, himself, would step into that authors' role! Mr. Blackthornes' debut was as hot as the pictures on his website and I was hooked from the first page. The revelations are suprising, the encounters intensely exciting and his journey enthralling! Regardless, I will follow him down his "Broken" path... 5 stars for an incredible debut. His story fires your blood as it flows to those most sensitive places and carries you away.
2 Pitty Stars for my BFF, any other reason and this would get a no star rating.
Where do I even begin. From the beginning of course. I have a BFF, and she is BFF all in caps and often highlighted. So she is on GR's as well and she posted this review, and I'm like the review is great. If my BFF recommends, it is definitely a story worth reading.
Well to say the least I call my BFF tonight and ask her what she had been smoking, drinking, eating, and possibly huffing!!!
This book was 80 pages of misogynistic dribble. Every time Ash Blackthorne walks into a room every woman with a vagina over the age of twenty wants him, including the men who wish they had a vagina. And every man wants to be him, "The Shark of Manhattan," the world's greatest investment banker (also with the world's biggest and widest cock). For goodness sake, we get it, you love yourself.
If you are going to write a 80 page novella, and leaving a person wanting more, panting for that novella number two. Don't give us 35 years in 80 pages. We just need this...
The plot of a story consists of five parts: exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and revelation/catastrophe. A that extra something at the end that say YAY! Is there is going to be a book two?
In short this was a merry-go-round of, I'm not sure what, except a really busy story.
I will leave you with a positive note, if you just don't care and want some smut to masturbate to, this is the read for you.
****It is on the Kindle Unlimited list, so if your a subscriber it's free to read. Whew!!****
P.S. If your wondering about my BFF, we are still sisters and thick as thieves. I'll just spend the next 40 years giving her crap about her rating system. Love you BFF!!!!!
Wow..."Bad boy in a good suit" is an apt description. Ashton Blackthorne allows you into his life...and makes you feel somewhat like a voyeur....at least...that's how I felt. Strong, seductive, hot, alpha businessman who is also cocky and self-assured---incapable of loving after a traumatic experience suffered as a small child impacts on the emotional development of his life. I enjoyed this book, and although it was a little hard to write a review without giving away any spoilers, I have purchased the second instalment, "Shattered"...*grinning*...to further my growing voyeuristic tendencies...
omg I LOVED this book! Ash, strong, wealthy, handsome playboy, wall street investment banker-used to getting what he wants, when and where he wants, and HOW he wants. A Dom who is broken and unable to love, even the person he cares about most. left damaged from childhood because of his mother. my heart breaks for young AND older Ash, yet am so drawn to his Dom ways. I can't wait to get and read the next book! I have a feeling I am going to devour the insatiable series! highly recommend!
A hot, sleek, and seductive alpha-male romance. I thoroughly enjoyed this sophisticated and pacy read, and am genuinely intrigued about what's to follow. My only personal requirement is for something a little darker, so I guess I'll have to read on and find out if Mr. Blackthorne will deliver...
Broken hands down one of hottest books today. Get look at what shaped Ashton as young boy, made him the way he is with women, love in general. Looking forward to reading more in the next book Shatter.
After reading the blurb I was excited to finally start this book. I liked it. I was surprised with how much I actually really liked reading it, as it was essentially his autobiography (as the author had mentioned). I loved going through this book and realizing these things and events do happen in real life, knowing it was Mr. Blackthorne’s past and the hurdles he had to overcome. It really makes you believe, that no matter what, if you put your mind to it you can be anything you want. I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book
I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book
Broken is the first book in the Insatiable series. This is the first book I have read by Ashton. I thought the book was ok. It's a quick read. The character Ashton has a mysterious vibe and is a well known playboy. He has a past that controls his future. I am curious to see how Ashton's story continues.
Wow. Let me say that again, WOW. Sexy, sensual, erotic, and tantalizing are words that come to mind when I think of Broken. But if you think this is just another simple erotic fiction novel, you are mistaken. This book is so much more...
I did not expect this story, or its deep underlying current of emotion that swept me up in the shadows of a rich and powerful dominant alpha male. Let me just say this, I don't read erotica much. I've read a few good ones and I stick to the small percentage I enjoy reading but I decided to take a chance on the elusive Mr. B after signing up and receiving his book for free. Excellent taste on my part, kinda like his Macallan 25. ;)
Our MC is a self-proclaimed dom, arrogant, proud, good looking (TDH right here-tall, dark, and handsome), and on the top of his game as THE shark on Wall Street. He's got his quirks but he's also hard to resist, especially by the beautiful, successful, and smart women who can't wait to fall into bed with him, constantly. Yeah, he's a player but let's face it ladies in a package that HOT who wouldn't want to experience one night of that kind of pleasure?
I have to admit, at first I was undecided on this book but as I got into chapters three and four and the meaty portion of the story, I kinda fell for Mr. B and his hang-ups. Broken takes the time to develop some rich depth and story telling that takes Ashton to a whole new level in the reader's mind. I loved his ability to let me think I was getting one thing, only to actually hand me over something so much better. And the writing...so good I felt like I was right there in every scene. You transported me there Mr. B, and I quite enjoyed the journey.
My only real complaint is that I wish the book was longer, which is one of the best compliments an author can receive. I wasn't sure I was going to like a book from a male POV so much but I did. I'm looking forward to reading his other works and delving into Mr. B's sensual world. More than that, I want to see where Ashton is headed and what adventures he has in store for us.
One final thought, whether any of these claims are true or if every word is made up fiction, I think he's touched on a brilliant niche market and I have no doubt of his high and continued success. So I'll raise a glass and toast you, cheers.
This is the first book I have read by Ashton Blackthorne and I can not wait to read the next book Shattered. Ash has everything a guy could ever want, a high class job, money, known by everyone, and any woman he wants. He loves to be in control of the women he takes home and he treats them well even if they are only for a night. Being a Dominant he knows how to bring out desires many women may not even realize they crave. The scenes are beyond hot and he is very good at mixing a bit of pain with pleasure. But there is only one woman that Ash has come close to loving. He never really healed from being broken as a child. We get to see the depths of his emotions as a boy and why he feels he can never love anyone. There is a cliffhanger ending that will leave you desperate to read Shattered!
I was more than a little excited to read "Broken" (mainly because Mr B makes me blush, but don't tell him that!) and to be frank, I was expecting to read well written erotica. Well, it certainly was all that but a great deal more too. This darkly toned, highly sexual read has a complexity running through it that came as a complete shock. Mr Blackthorne has given us a glimpse of what his childhood was like, what drove him to become the person he is today and personally, I was captivated. I can't wait to discover more about the intriguing Ashton Blackthorne.
This is the first book of this author that I have read and I got to say I wasn't disappointed. This book is Ashton's journey and we get to see him as a young boy through flashbacks, a savvy and ruthless businessman and the Dom who commands and controls a woman's desire. This is a short book that is kinky and hot as hell and it will have you captivated all the way through it. I really enjoyed reading this book and read it in one sitting. It ends on a cliff hanger and it will leave you desperately wanting book 2 for answers.
This book was not what I had expected, it was so much more. I'm torn between feeling sad for the struggles he endured and wanting to hold him close and protect him to being jealous of the women who were lucky enough to share in such a wondrous man even if for a brief moment. Extremely well written and I couldn't put the book down. I really have to find out the rest of the story now, what is in store next for this intriguing man?
I loved this book. Mr. Blackthorne is a dominant man with commitment issues. His story is sad, sexy and heartbreaking. I couldn't put it down. You will love this series.
In this debut novel, the main character, Ashton Blackthorne is a successful businessman in NY. The book jumps around quite a bit, but it's necessary and easy to follow. We get a glimpse into his past as a young boy, as well as with the first, and what appears to be, the only girlfriend he's ever had. Your past makes you who you are, and such is the case with Ashton. He's a playboy, yes, but the title of the book is called "Broken", and it's aptly chosen. Ashton is definitely a broken man and if this book is truly an autobiography, I feel sorry for him. Sure, he may live the life most people dream of, as he's rich, attractive, and can have his pick of any woman, but deep down, he's still that little boy who never healed from the hurt his mother caused. To me, the life he lives is an empty one; work, drink, find women, repeat. Does he not have any friends or any other interests? For me, this novella was just okay.
The sex scenes were hot, but I had an issue with them, particularly the one near the beginning of the book. Ashton Blackthorne, from all appearances, is a smart man, but not when it comes to his sexual health and wellbeing. Not once in the book was protection used. Talk about playing Russian Roulette, especially with strangers. Sorry, nope. I'm not that trusting. I can see not using protection with his ex-girlfriend because they were together for a while, but not some random chick he picked up at a bar. Speaking of said random chick, it can't be said that Ashton Blackthorne is not a gentleman. I, personally, never stay the night, but I'm going to venture a guess that most men don't have breakfast waiting for you the next morning. Also, fair warning, there is a FFM scene; I'm okay with them, but I know not everyone is.
Additionally, there was one thing that kept bugging me throughout the book. Not a whole lot is given regarding personal taste, yet every female that Ashton sleeps with is a blonde-haired, blue-eyed Barbie doll. I can't help but wonder if that's because they're just that prevalent in NY (I thought that was the case in LA), they're his personal preference, or because they're the opposite of his mother. I'm not kidding. If you take out the females' names, based on physical descriptions given, they might as well have been the same female. To that end, I just feel like there's something missing.
There were quite a bit of grammatical errors, especially with a lack of commas, some misused words, and missing words, but I was able to overlook them, and I'm not usually that person. I'd recommend this book if you're wanting a short, hot novella and don't mind a cliffhanger. I've purchased the second book and I'm hoping that there's more to the story than just work, drink, meet women, and repeat. Hopefully, we, as readers, get a more in-depth glimpse into Ashton Blackthorne's mind and what makes him tick.
1st book in the Insatiable series, can't wait to read more either from this series or others from this author ... such a great read. I am new to Ashton's writing style. I have to laugh at some reviews ... Oh My Goodness ... the things that people get their panties in a bunch over, people have the right to make decisions in their own lives, so if a author writes something one way, nuts! ... an author can take whatever liberties they wish to take ... it is their book after all ... if you don't like you are more than welcome to take a hike and read another book ... why the negative reviews???!! ... just move on. Great read. Must read. Such hot & steamy scenes. ( ;
Wow! The story is powerful, the characters are engaging and Ashton Blackthorne has shown an innate ability to grab his readers emotions and bring them to the forefront. I've never been so glad to see a storyline continue. This one definitely left me with wanting MORE.
Ok, so I’m on the fence with this one. On one hand I loved it but it was a bit short. It is a trilogy which only books one and two are published, but each is less than 100 pages. Book 3 is scheduled for publication in March 2017 so hopefully we get the end of the story then.
So Ash is a powerful business man, but he is haunted by the events of his childhood. I actually wanted him and Amber to get together, but instead it is about his ex-girlfriend who he left 10 years ago. That being said it was a twisted read and had some fantastic scenes.
Since this appears to be a new author, I wasn’t sure what to expect. There were some good moments, but it didn’t seem to have much substance. It was like setting up the story for the coming books. I did like Ash enough to want to read more from the series.
Hero 4 Stars / Heroine 4 stars / Steam 4 stars / Plot 4 stars / Overall 4 Stars Keys: MF, alpha, playboy, wealthy, twist and turns, #MSBB I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book for the Goodreads TPE Bar.
This was a really good short read. The main character Ashton is a smoking hot billionaire who usually gets what he wants. His problem is he can't deal with his past and that clouds his judgment. His story is told with flashbacks of his childhood and of the past few years with his then girlfriend Veronica. Add his hot assistant in and what you have is a hot story with lots of sex and a little bit of mystery. Can't wait to see more of the story in book 2!!
