Summary:
At first I was confused until I realized that Humanity’s Protectors takes place thirty years before the Influence series begins.

At sixteen. Leevah was forced to leave home and work for the corporation to use her abilities to influence the public into their way of thinking. That is until they asked her to manipulate a crowd in ways that was against what she thought was right. Unfortunately, her one action of defiance changed everything. She began to question everything she believed leaving her struggling to survive. What she found left her fighting to find who she could trust and if there was any place safe.

This was an incredible novella that came to live in the audio-book format.

I started with Humanity's Protectors before I read teh first book. As an orgin book, I reall wante to started there.
Leeyah is sixteen and has special power that allows her to munipulation minds and emotions. In true American style, coroporations have snapped up the ones with theese powers and keep them to themselves. Leeyah doesn't understand that this is more than anyting other than a basica ob that helped keep her parents comfortable. But when she refuses a job that goes againast all her ethics, all hell breaks loose adn her life chanegs forever.
With elements of The Darkest Minds, Humanity's Protectors shows what would happen in America if people with special powers actually exsisted and it's pretty spot on and sad. HP also takes on resisence groups. These saviors aten't all they seemed either.
The only issue I had with this was there was an aburt and jaring tranistion to teh ain story. A "30 years later such and such begins." Myabe I would feel diffeently if I started wih the first book.
Over all, this novella is though provoking and exciting and I look forward to the rest of the series.

I received a copy of this book from the author all opinions are my own.

Humanity’s Protectors is a great introduction into the world of the Influence series. Humanity’s Protectors gives us insight into influencer’s and what they are capable of doing. Influencer’s can control people with their mind.

Our stories heroine sixteen-year-old Leeyah is assigned a task to do but refuses as she doesn’t want to hurt anyone. When she refuses to do their bidding someone comes to whisk her away for what she is not quite sure but I sure her imagination was in overdrive at that moment. As she is being taken away a group of people sweep in and rescue her.

Humanity’s Protectors is a fast paced read that sucks you in right from the beginning with all the action. I really and truly loved the world that Humanity’s Protectors is set in and can’t wait to learn more. Humanity’s Protectors is a very intriguing read.

I would recommend Humanity’s Protectors to all science fiction fans.

Some insight in how it began.

The story was a nice addition but not so much the useful novella that adds a lot of insights. Altough it has a few interesting things. This is one I personally felt like it doesn’t add much to the Influence world David has created. Normally I am happier about novella’s in a certain world. But nonetheless it was a nice story. Not exactly depicting the fall itself but a little story about one fairly clueless Influencer, Leah and her experiences about life as an Influencer in the early days.
I think I’m a little bit less excited about the story because throughout the beginning d almost right up till the end, I was expecting rhis to be the story about Kaylin, the main character and Influencer on the run from the series. But who knows, maybe book 2 might reveal a certain tit-bit that places this story in a whole new light. After all, I did enjoy the story, I’m glad I had the chance of getting to know this one!

Just like the first book, Influence, this novella is packed with action.

Humanity's Protectors shows a glimpse of what the world will eventually become in Influence.

Leeyah works mostly in secret for a corporation as their own personal influencer. Her, and people like her, were hired to help the company to gain an upper hand in the corporate world.

The job pays well and, though it's lonely and soul-sucking, Leeyah puts up with it. That is, until the day the company asks her to do something so against her personal morals she refuses.

What follows is probably high up on the "Worst Day Any Teenager Has Ever Experienced" list. Leeyah must flee and fight for her freedom and very life.

Good for people who love stories with a lot of action and adventure and for those who liked Influence and want to know how the world ended up the way it did.

A fantastic read. I am very intrigued. I love the creativity that has brought this read to fruition. It had me on the edge of my seat right from the beginning. This is right up there with divergent and the 100 in my person opinion those are some of my favorite shows. The Narrator does a fantastic job with the characters voices. The Author has fantastic world building as well as characters development. As I listen I can picture the scene in my minds eye. And I felt like I can imagine this fantastic read on screen. I definitely recommend.

Uncaged Book Reviews:

A lot of violence in a short amount of time, and you get a taste of what some of the different abilities are of some of the people in this world. Leeyah is very young, and very whiny, but to have all this tossed at her being so young, then I have to give her a bit of a break, although I think the author made her sound younger than her 16 years. This is a fast paced futuristic story and a good origin story. Reviewed by Cyrene

Taking place 30 years before Influence and just as the world is beginning to realize what Influencers can do, Humanity's Protectors is a short novella about Leeyah who is working for a cushy corporation job. But today she is asked to do something that goes against her ethics and when she says no her whole world spins out of control.

Fast paced and full of action this is a great prequel to the events in Influence and can be read either before or after the first book. The audible edition comes with a sneak peak at Influence at the end of the novella.

It was a good short read - It showed how they were treated right off the bat - However I thought we were going to get a bit more in the how the world fell apart and how they were brought about and their DNA managed to get modified.... but nope... and I mean that's okay - I just didn't expect to read this story as the novella. :0) Still well written though

Well that was an interesting little novella.

I'm interested to see what the first book of the series turns out like! The main downside I found was the story jumped around quite a bit and didn't focus on one thing, but I guess that's what chaos is, eh?

The first section had a bit too much emotional ambivalence among the characters, but the rest was fast-paced and drew me in quickly. I'm eager to read Influence, the first novel in the series.

Leeyah was so obnoxious and naive, that it make it difficult to connect with her. Still it was pretty interesting to find out all this different types of influencers and how it all begin.

I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. This was my introduction to the Influence series and it has me curious. This was a good short story that left me interested in reading the series. I really liked Leeyah and wished this was a full novel. I noticed that the first book begins 30 years after this novella, but I hope that the series references or brings these characters into it.

I am a big fan of this author's work after reading the first book in this series Influence so i was excited about reading this book and i was seriously not disappointed in this book.

This is a novella that gives an insight in the past and i liked that, i would definitely recommend readers to read this novella after Influence a i think it makes more sense that way. It is an extremely detailed novella making it appear longer than it is but letting you see how things originated, not just the people but the whole world that this story is based in.

I really enjoyed how fast paced this was and how there are different groups of people in this story and how they are so different from each other. You really don't know what is going to happen next but i really liked how it was paced, it wasn't too much information but it also wasnt lacking. I did really enjoy this book and i would definitely recommend this book i love reading in this imaginative world and i can't wait to read more

Wow! This starts off intense and never lets up. I read this is one sitting and a quick one, at that. A futuristic story revolving around people born with the gift to "push" the minds of others, in some form or another. These "influencers" are highly sought by large corporations to create acceptance to whatever they are marketing. So much so, that the hired are sequestered away form other human contact and doled out assignments. When main character Leeyah opts not to follow her latest task, all Hell breaks loose. I won't give too many details, but the counter-culture saves her from being "erased" and she is taken into another sect as Hell-bent on taking out the Corporate Police as they are them, The "Humanity Protectors".. A riveting read with non-stop action and characters you don't dare begin to like. First in a series, this tightly written tale is destined for the big screen.

I debated going 4 stars or 3, not because I did not like it, but it just needed a little more...something. Yes, I know it is a short-story so it can only have so much, but almost too much scene jumping...although I suppose that was also a pro because it kept me page flipping to find out what the heck was going on! I felt like I was her - being dragged from situation to situation before there was a chance to breath and think! But got an automatic 4 for an interesting world, abilities and characters I would like to know better. So onto the next book :)

What a great origin/prequil story to read. I liked that it started out fast with one action scene after another. The only restful part was the first few pages. I thought the writing was great and it caught my attention. I felt I was there and seeing it all myself.
