Second book in Novak's The Last Stand series. I'm giving it the same rating as the first book, 4-stars, but I liked it more than the first one. While the first one was borderline 3-4 stars, this one solid 4 stars.

Like the first book, this one focuses on The Last Stand victims support organization and the three women who founded it. This book features Jasmine Stratford. Sixteen years earlier, her little sister was kidnapped while Jasmine babysat her, completely destroying her family. The sister w

3 stars. If you’re in the mood for romantic suspense, this is pretty good, a little better than average.

There were a couple of weak places, but acceptable. I think it’s fine to have a trusted person turn-out to be bad, but here it happens more than once which bothered me a little. Probably because I recently read another book by this author that had many cops, mayor, and others - supposedly good but in truth were bad guys. She used the surprise of many bad guys as a way to create mystery and su

4 solid stars for the second book in the Last Stand series. I always hate leaving the characters of one book behind when I start another book. It is definitely no different when I'm reading a series. I always hope to find glimpses of the previous characters in the next book of a series. I did get that glimpse, just a glimpse, like in a couple of phone conversations. I wanted more, but quickly got into the new story and then the new characters took over. In this series, the characters of the seco ...more

Good Read

As a guy, I don't really care for all the romance in my novels, but many in the reading audience do want those moments with their characters. With that said, the story was suspenseful at times and keeps you interested long enough to want more. You start to wonder if Jasmine will ever find out what happened to her sister. I recommend this novel to anyone who enjoys reading cold cases.

The book started out OK, although I was hesitant to read it because I learned from the previous book that the main character in this one had psychic abilities. I normally don't read books with psychic aspects in them just because they get weird, and quite frankly I like when people solve puzzles without freaky mind powers.

I ended up liking Jasmine, even with her gobbledegook powers. She wasn't always "reading" things, but she did crawl into Romains dream which I felt was a huge invasion of his t

I enjoyed how dark this book was and the New Orleans/swamp setting was a neat location. The setting just seemed to make everything creepier. I thought the romantic leads had a lot of depth in this book and I loved the love story aspect of it. Unfortunately, there were two plot aspects that were extremely unbelievable to me which really had the effect of pulling me out of the story.

1) I liked the psychic aspect of the story but I found it incredibly unbelievable that someone could become a profil

Just as I finally got over the creepiness of Hanover House, I turn around and read Save Me. Although I do admit to guessing THE identity fairly quickly, there were a lot of twists and turns to make me doubt my decision. The romance is sweet which is something I never thought I'd say about this author's books, but the romance was a sideline to the story itself so it fit. So this book did not creep me out nearly as much as Hanover House but it was a good read and read quickly. Now I just need to g ...more

This is the second book in The Last Stand series and it was absolutely great. Jasmine Stratford was babysitting her little sister when the sister was kidnapped sixteen years ago. She never have up hope of finding her but the trail turned cold until she received a package in the mail that contained her sister's bracelet. The package led her to New Orleans and another kidnapping and murder that had happened four years ago. Romain Fornier thought he had killed his daughter's killer after his trial ...more

this is a suspenseful riveting story that will keep you on the edge of your seat. So many twists and turns, so many tense filled moments. Romain and Jasmine enter into a challenging search for a murderer. This is one of the best psychological thrillers I have ever read. At times I felt as frightened as the characters. Fantastic read!

Hard to put down. Loved the story, suspense and kept you wondering. Can't wait to read the next book in this series.
I obviously do not have an adequate respect for proper sleeping rituals. I’m obviously very good at convincing myself that “It won’t take long to finish the rest of this book.”

But anyway…

Jasmine Stratford’s younger sister was abducted sixteen years ago and never found; Jasmine was barely a pre-teen at the time. The incident tore her family up and forced Jasmine away from her former loving and warm home, wandering until she managed to get her life back together. And so now she’s a victims’ advoca

Read another book in five days. But then again it's another Novak book. I am totally hooked on her and may never read another author....

This is part of The Last Stand series and continues with the life of one of the three women running this organization to help victims of crime, but when Jasmine gets a note from who she believes is her sister's abductor, she is off to New Orleans to track him down. In the process she also hooks up with Romain Fournier believing that the man who killed his daught

Romain has turned his back on the rest of the world while he continues to mourn his wife who died of cancer and his little girl who was brutally murdered. Jasmine has never recovered from the kidnapping of her sister 12 years ago but suddenly she receives something in the mail that leads her to New Orleans on a collision course with Romain. I love her because even though her sixth sense scares her to death, she forges ahead in her investigation. Another great story about the women of the Last St ...more

It's really hard to keep up on my homemaking duties when these books I keep reading are so impossible to put down! ;)
The second book in the Last Stand series delivers a bigger payoff on each point that the first book, Trust Me, might have lacked. This is a relationship that plays out better, a mystery that is more engrossing, and a plot line that takes you higher and further than you went in the first book.

That being said, you could get away with reading this by itself without having read the first book, because the characters from the first are barely glimpsed, and their back story isn't really mentioned. He

Wow!! After reading the first book in the Last Stand trilogy I didnt think Stop Me could ever be as good, but I was wrong! The storyline was never dull, and was always unpredictable, and for me thats the best kind. Jasmine and Romain are thrust together when Jaz gets a note from her sisters kidnapper, that connects her case to the kidnapping and murder of Romain's daughter. No matter how much either of them tried to deny the attraction between them, it was impossible to ignore. Throughout this w ...more

This book was very well written with a slight physic twist - the heroine gets flashes of events, from items and areas. It helps her to do her job, which includes profiling for the FBI, assisting in finding kidnapped children and missing people.

I didn't know until I finished the story that this was actually the second in a series. It had good characters, who played off each other, with a select group of people who worked together, playing several side plots off the main story where Jasmine is sea

Although the storyline was a disturbing topic to say the least, Brenda Novak did a fine job writing Stop Me. She touched on a subject no one wants to believe can ever happen in their own family.
I applaud her sensitivity to the emotions of the main characters involved, Romain and Jasmine. Their turmoil and inner struggles were believable and touching. I wanted to help them.
The kidnapping ring was also very realistic, unfortunately. Too many people will choose to act like it is ludicrous to suspec

It was a shocking experience that jump-started Brenda Novak’s bestselling author career.

“I caught my day-care provider drugging my children with cough syrup and Tylenol to get them to sleep while I was away,” Brenda says. “It was then that I decided that I needed to do something from home.”

However, writing was the last profession she expected to undertake. In fact, Brenda swears she didn’t have a
