One day at recess, Rappy the dinosaur gets taken by aliens on a U.F.O. ride. The head alien, Janet, wants Rappy to live with her—on Mars! Will Rappy stay in space to roam, or will he rap his way back home? Beginning readers will love rapping along as Rappy goes on an out-of-this-world adventure. This rhyming Level Two I Can Read is geared for kids who read on their own but still need a little help.
The author of over 80 books in a little over a decade of writing, Dan Gutman has written on topics from computers to baseball. Beginning his freelance career as a nonfiction author dealing mostly with sports for adults and young readers, Gutman has concentrated on juvenile fiction since 1995. His most popular titles include the time-travel sports book Honus and Me and its sequels, and a clutch of baseball books, including The Green Monster from Left Field. From hopeful and very youthful presidential candidates to stunt men, nothing is off limits in Gutman's fertile imagination. As he noted on his author Web site, since writing his first novel, They Came from Centerfield, in 1994, he has been hooked on fiction. "It was fun to write, kids loved it, and I discovered how incredibly rewarding it is to take a blank page and turn it into a WORLD."
Gutman was born in New York City in 1955, but moved to Newark, New Jersey the following year and spent his youth there.
Another Rappy the Raptor book that sees our rhyming friend out playing in the school yard. When a flash crosses the sky, Rappy and his cousin stand in awe. A purple beam glows and Rappy is pulled up into what seems to be a UFO. Zipped away, Rappy tells of how he is on his way to Mars. Arriving there, one of the Martians has quite the proposition for him, though Rappy cannot accept it. Rapping his way out of trouble, the Martians rush to return Rappy to Earth. It is there that our young rhymer realizes that home is where he belongs. Neo liked this piece and was sometimes able to predict the rhyming words. We’ll keep our eyes peeled for more, both to read and enjoy!
This entry in the already-too-long Rappyverse is probably my least favourite yet. The rhymes are very forced, and the story....is just all kinds of weird.
We liked this one more than Rappy and his things. This time there's a story (a dinosaur gets abducted by aliens) and the rhymes are less forced. We like when Rappy goes: "this is worse than diarrhea, but i have a great idea"....or something like that.
Bug really liked this one and read it twice, which is a feat. It is a story in rhyme which is always fun. It also goes along with the summer reading theme of Space.
This is a really cute book about a dinosaur that goes to mars. There is a bit of crude humor I suppose in it, and some things didn’t rhyme. However my 5 year old did seem to like it.
