Common Ancestor gets under your skin, quietly, embedding itself deeper with the passage of every exquisite sentence. There is a lot to be struck by in this collection, but one of the things that struck me most was the juxtaposition between the brutality of the worlds the speakers in these poem inhabit with the tenderness with which that world is rendered.
