One round tortilla, two scoops of rice, and a load of other tasty ingredients add up to one delicious burrito!
"One round tortilla/Una tortilla redonda Two scoops of rice/Dos cucharadas de arroz Three spoonfuls of beans/Tres cucharadas de frijoles"
Bold graphic numerals and shaped pages to count in English and Spanish make this book a great way to reinforce multiple basic concepts! David Diaz's signature art is an indispensable ingredient, adding flavor to a burrito bursting with fun.
I've been writing since I was a kid but it took awhile to get published-I had to work at improving my craft! Click Here was the sixth novel I'd written, the first to be accepted for publication. It went on to become a bestselling title for the Scholastic Book Fairs/Clubs, won the Colorado Book Award for Young Adult Literature, and was a 2008 Louisiana Reader’s Choice Nominee. I was excited and nervous to write Access Denied, the sequel to Click Here, because so many readers have written to tell me how much they loved it. But luckily my readers have really liked it - whew. Fact of Life #31 won the Colorado Top Hand Award and the Colorado Book Award for Young Adult Literature. My newest book, ROCK ON, which was so much fun to write. Other stuff about me: I'm a Co-Regional Advisor of the Rocky Mountain Chapter of SCBWI and enjoy giving back in that way. I love french fries and can't stand cheese so if you want to make me dinner, leave that stuff out of it!
What a fun engaging book by Denise Vega! Not only is this book full of festive bright colors that teaches readers how to make burritos, they'll learn how to count to ten in both Spanish and English. How great is that! definitely would recommend this for young readers while having a burrito making day in class.
She's my sister, so obviously I'm biased, but this is an adorable counting book in English and Spanish. And if you want, I can get it signed by the author! ;)
Fun fact: The burrito is a traditional food in the city of Juarez in northern Mexico. This book is shaped sort of like tortillas used to make burritos and because of this you can't help but feel very hungry by the time you get through this book.
What a fantastic kids book! not only can you learn to count to ten in both Spanish and English, you can learn how to make a burrito. Each spread opens to a diecut page that adds one more ingredient to the inside of a tortilla, with instructions also in Spanish and English. The round edges will entice young ones to pick it up and peek inside, too. Vega's illustrations are bright and beautiful - watch out, you'll get hungry reading it!
This is such a cute counting book! With numbers and words in both English and Spanish, this is great for English Language Learners and those who want to learn Spanish. It would be really neat to have children make a burrito (made of construction paper or something similar) according to the book. Then it would also be a lesson on following directions.
An elementary school had a food literacy night and I went over to introduce myself and talk about the library programs. I then had a little table to sign people up for library cards and I took a few books. This was one of them and a little girl asked me to read it to her while her mother filled out the application.
Who loves burritos? I DO!! And I love this book. Not only can you learn to count to 10 in English and Spanish, you can learn how to make a burrito. I love that the pages look like the ingredients.
Build a Burrito is a counting book in English and Spanish. Each page has brightly colored foods, textured edges, and a sentence about the food written in both English and Spanish. I would use this to teach students some simple Spanish phrases and to count to ten in Spanish. It is also a good review of foods, colors, and shapes.
This is a bilingual counting book. The author counts the number of things she is adding to a burrito starting with one round tortilla. It says things in English and in Spanish. Being bilingual is an increasing thing that happens in America now and it is important to meet the needs of all students in the classroom. This book is fun and can incorporate a health or cooking lesson while doing it.
This board book is in Spanish and English. It takes the reader step by step through the ingredients in a burrito. As it changes shape and size the ingredients themselves get smaller but the numbers get bigger. I think that is quite clever. This book will delight children and would be a great book for snuggling and reading with a toddler.
The book was in English and in Spanish to show how to make a burrito. The book is little and shaped in a small circle, easier for the children to hold. Its very colorful and entertaining for kids!
This is a great book for both Ell's learning English as well as English speaking student's learning Spanish. Each page has a different number in both languages and a lovely illustration.
A book that uses a step by step explanation on how to build a burrito in both the English and Spanish languages. Fun and learning with a scrumptious meal at the end.

Words and sentences in Spanish and English teach students how to build a burrito. This reinforces counting concepts in both languages while teaching about food of a different culture.
