Primer #3
True to Form
To state the obvious, we have seen profound changes in our culture as the LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer) movement has won widespread acceptance and has increasingly been accommodated in law and educational policy. At a more individual level, we all breathe the air of a culture that says our sexuality and gender identity is at once central to our very selves and at the same time permanently fluid. That is profoundly unsettling and the effects of that culture are all around us. So what does a biblical and pastoral response look like to that culture; its champions, and its casualties? That's the question Primer issue 03 is trying to answer.

A bit out of date now and could do with a reprint and an update.
I found some chapters great and others far too academic. Wasn't sure who the target audience was meant to be. But all were faithful to God's teaching in scripture on sexuality and gender.
Here's my favourite quote:
'Marriage is a picture of the thing God is doing in the universe, drawing people together for His Son, Jesus Christ. It is this narrative that undergirds all reality and shapes our view of marriage. Marriage is not, for the Christian, merely a public recognition and celebration of two people's deep feelings for one another. It is a covenant by which two unlike parties are joined together for life. It's why we insist on couple's saying "I will" rather than "I do". What concerns us is not the couple's feelings for one another in the present moment..., but their intentions for the future. It is also why we understand marriage to be necessarily heterosexual. It is the union of the like and the unlike, of male and female, precisely because it pictures the union of Christ and His church. A man and a man, or a woman and a woman, cannot picture this deep reality.
'Marriage reflects the Gospel, and because of this we cannoy change our view of marriage without ultimately changing our view of the Gospel.' (Sam Allberry, p.52)
