They hunted her. They wanted her dead. And when they attacked, a boy saved her in exchange for his life. Another murder happening in front of her eyes. Br

"A good fighter isn't always someone who can fight with his fists. A good fighter can also fight with his heart and for his heart." --Jimmy, compound leader

4.5 stars!

I love discovering new books from lesser-known indie authors because many times they write the coolest and most intriguing stories. I can confidently say that I have never read a paranormal/urban fantasy novel where a characters' eye color determined if they were "mutants" or not (I loved the X-Men reference!), and so this novel wa

Four years had gone by, and the pain was still as raw as the night they'd taken away her sister. Four years, and Haylie Bryceland was still searching for answers to the one question it all came down to—why?
Then they attacked her. She didn't know who they were, nor did she know the young man who saved her from death only to give his own life in return. That’s when Haylie knew she was doomed, and it wouldn't take long for her to learn that the world bor

I was kindly given a copy of A Flare of Hope, book 1 in the Jaylior series to review in preparation for book 3 of the Jaylior series, which is coming soon.
I can certainly say it was a very good read. Haylie is a Jaylior, a very rare type of Roe, which is a person who has evolved to have superior abilities of some kind. At the start of the book Haylie is unaware of her abilities as they don't awaken until the age of 25. However there is one distinctive quality that identifies Roes and that is th

If I could give this book a 10 star rating, I definitely would! It was that amazing! I absolutely loved the characters and the world Elodie created is fabulous and believable. I found myself really, truly crying in the first chapter. There is so many heart wrenching scenes that you can't help but being so in tune with the heroine's character.

Haylie is a great heroine in this story line. She is not only humble, but she is kind, with a bit of a wild and crazy streak that has everything to do with

So. many. adjectives. For want of a clean sentence, I had to put this one down. Add to that info dumps in the form of flashbacks - which isn't a sin by itself, but they were awkwardly placed. Oh, and the repeating of each other's names in the course of a conversation. People don't do that unless they're being passive aggressive. It kept throwing me out of what little groove I'd gotten into.

Ultimately, my need to know what's so special about humans with hazel eyes was outweighed by these kind of

I loved learning about the world the author created! I liked how she came up with a new eye color for her main character Haylie Bryceland and how she uses that color is pure genius. I have not seen another story like this and I have read a lot of these types of books.

There are so many unanswered questions by the end that it makes me excited to read the next book.

Very good book!

I felt the emotions of this book strongly. It was that well written. I will be buying the rest of the books because I can't wait to see how Haylie and Dylan's story unfolds.

I found this book by chance. It popped up for me as a possible interest that is related to other similar books I read. I took a chance and am glad I did. It was a great read for me. I was immediately pulled right into the series.

The best thing that I LOVE about this series is the scientific approach on the unique characters powers. What a creative and unique idea.

Haylie and Dylan are fantastic characters. I can't wait to see where this series takes them. This story has kept me sucked in from t

I loved this book!! If you are looking for something that is a little different, then this is the book for you! With well developed characters and a story line that is just a little futuristic, you cannot helped but be pulled into the world this author has created. We are given plausible 'scientific' explanations that are easily understood and answer questions for us as a reader, without bombarding us with useless, hard to decipher data. The "action" scenes are so well written that if you close ...more

This book was so much fun and I loved the in depth urban world building. I was given such beautiful descriptions of the world and there was never a moment where I was confused – especially in the intense action scenes! The history of the Roes was amazing, detailed, well thought out and just a little too believable if you ask me (I’ve been weirdly checking everyone’s eye colour since.) Elodie has really done her research with the biology here and made sure she created a world that is completely b ...more

I so wish this book didn't turn out the way it did. I was intrigued in the beginning, annoyed in the middle, and enraged at the end. It's a slow-moving, eye-rolling, head-clutching nightmare. The two mains are not right for each other. The readers know it, the characters know it. Yet Miss Elodie Colt seems to have missed the memo. She's the only one trying to make those two work, and frankly all it's doing is working against her. Dylan never gave me a chance to like him, so therefore I do not. H ...more
