As a vegan this book sounds amazing to me, I guess I just found a perfect present for my vegan friends who are raising a lovely girl. Will try and go see if it is available for purchase yet, and if not, - when - excited! - Update: It just came through today and I read it in one breath. AMANDA THE TEEN ACTIVIST is a sweet, big-hearted YA novel. Set in Australia, the book follows 13-year old Amanda, who accidentally discovers the source of the nasty smell permeating the area around her school--a massive, factory-style egg farm. Amanda finds herself in deeper conflict as she is caught between compassion for the hens, trouble with her father and other authority figures, and the fact that her new friend at school is the daughter of the egg farm's owner.

Amanda the Teen Activist follows the fiery haired heroine on her quest to free an injustice that she feels fiercely about. Amanda wants to make a difference whenever she sees suffering of any kind. I liked how the story unfolds and there are many great supporting characters as well. Jimmy Bolt, Nell, Dr. Flo, Lilly, Freya, and more really made this story interesting.
