The Dragonlords of Xandakar #4

Dragon Black, Dragon White: Darkest Day, Brightest Night

Rate this book
A malevolent power has been unleashed upon Xandakar. The fate of the world lies in the hands of a young man and a young woman whose lives are about to change forever.

Zakarai Mossknot lives deep in the southern swamps with a family of rat shifters who steal and scavenge to survive. He's out on the boat with his Pa and his brother when the sun turns black as pitch, along with the eyes of everyone around him, transforming them into murderous monsters. So begins the longest, darkest day of Zak's life. He will have to fight for his very survival, discover who he really is, and meet a young woman who is also fleeing from the dark magic that has gripped their world. She is spoiled, selfish, and headstrong, but she is also the most beautiful, clever girl he has ever met.

Myrian Moonglow is a princess in the clan of the white dragons. She has lived her entire life in luxury and comfort, tucked away behind the high marble walls of the Moonglow castle. But her sheltered life is thrown into chaos when the sun goes dark and everyone she loves is suddenly trying to kill her. As she flees the horrors of the dark day, she will meet a young man, a peasant dressed in rags from the swamps to the west. And even though he is rude, impudent, and ignorant, he may be her only hope for living another day, if another day will ever come.

The Dragonlords of Xandakar #4
by Macy Babineaux
Unbelievable phenomenal

This is the 4 book in this series, I've ever read anything by this author before this series. But I love her work & her ability to take us into completely amazing new world & make it so believable! I will definitely be reading more of this Author!

As the moon covers the sun Darkness falls upon the land & as this Darkness falls upon the land evil & mayhem also emerges from the darkness.. It seem that the whole Xandakar is effected by madness.. A selected few are unaffected, these selected few will be sent out on prophecy to save their world from Vish’Kazir & Nevra

Zakarai Mossknot he lived his life as completely lie, unknowingly.. Raised by family of southern swamps rat shifters.Only to find out what huge lie that was

Myrian Moonglow is a princess in the clan of the white dragons. She has lived her entire life in luxury & comfort, Myrian was one spoiled ass child & she had to learn really fast how to be women
I find myself falling in love with this Author imagination & writing skills. With that said this isn’t standalone book, you need to read this Series from the being to fully enjoy it

This is very fast past book with tons of suspense, danger intense, action packed & exciting read... Unbelievable phenomenal….I hope you enjoy visiting Xandakar as much as I did
Hope you enjoy this read & also always keep in mind this is just my opinion

This is an action packed, fast paced and enthralling story and I’m so glad I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book.

Zakarai Mossknot had never really fitted in with his family. They’re all water rat shifters but he’s never learnt to shift. He’s also taller than them and has always been picked on, especially by his older brother. He was out with his Pa and brother when the sun turned black - and so did the eyes of everyone around him. As they set out to kill him, Zak escapes but witnesses further murderous mayhem as he tries to reach the Owls to find out what is happening and what to do.

Myrian Moonglow is the spoilt white dragon princess. She’s used to having servants do her bidding and a life of luxury but when everyone around her starts trying to kill her she decides to go to the Owls, too. When she and Zak meet up she’s a rude, stuck up, opinionated young lady and not very likeable. However as the two set off to save the world, she realises how wrong her attitude was and discovers that Zak and she have been prophesied to help save the world. Now they need to journey to find everyone else necessary to help defeat the demon intent on taking over the world.

The characters are diverse. I loved the were rabbit, especially! The dragons all have different strengths and powers to bring to the final battle. However, don’t anticipate this being the end of the series, it isn’t! There’s one more book to come and I can’t wait to read it! This is a real page turner, set in a well developed fantasy world with great characters and a fantastic good v evil battle in process. I have no hesitation in highly recommending it to anyone who enjoys dragon shifter adventures and romance!

Zakarai 'Zak' Mossknot is a swamp rat shifter who has spent his life scraping by with his family that he does feel a part of. After helping his Pa & his brother steal crabs to sell at swamp kitchen the sun turns black & most of the living creatures become violent turning on each other. Zak's learns very quickly that he must get away from every thing if he wants to survive the dark magic that has taken control. Myrian Moonglow is a white dragon princess who has lived a life of great comfort & luxury. Yet her life becomes as choatic as all others when the sun turns black. She tries to return to her home Moonglow Castle but every one there is trying to kill each other & her too. She believes the only place left is the One Tree where the magi live that could still be safe. As both Zak & Myrian head North across Xandakar towards the One Tree & safety, they end up crossing paths. Their first meeting does not go well because they each are not accustom to dealing with people from each others world -- one of pomp & one of poverty. When they finally do end up at the One Tree, they learn from the magi about a prophecy where they are each to take a part in to rid the world of the demon that has brought this black magic. Along the way Zak learns that his instincts about him not being a swamp rat were good & that he is in fact the son of the black dragon king. Zak & Myrian decide to follow the prophecy & go to gather the others needed to bring it about.

This was an imaginative fantasy story about a civilization of shifters of all types of animals. But the story focuses on the dragon shifters & their need to save the realm from evil. The story was entertaining & creative in who the characters are before they met & who they become when they go out on their quest. This is the fourth book in a series & you will need to wait for the fifth book to know the outcome of the prophecy. I read this book without reading any of the earlier books & it did just fine standing alone.

I voluntarily read an Advanced Reader's Copy of this book.

This is the first book I've read from this author and also the first in this type of genre. I can honestly say I loved it and will go back to read the other 3 but, I had no problem following. Macy's writing is captivating and really draws you in from the beginning.

Myrian is spoiled princess who was slightly annoying at first but, that changed quickly and I really started to like her.

Zak has had it much rougher than Myrian and runs away from his family when they try to kill him.

When Zak and Myrians first meet they don't see eye to eye and there differences are quite obvious but, they don't have much of an option if they want to save there world. I don't want to give any more away but, I can say this book is worth a read even if you don't like this genre.

I voluntarily reviewed a ARC of this book

The adventure is off again to find what the mysterious owl mages prophecy is about. And what it means for all the dragons of the world.
Zak always knew he was different from his supposed family who can shift at will as swamp rats. Though he would try he could never shift, but scales he did grow every year and for what reason he's never figured out. Until the day the sun went black and he witnessed the horrors it brought across the swamp. Will he survive long enough to figure out how to stop it?
Myrian is a princess from the white dragon clan. Her special talent is healing breath. She has enjoyed her time as a princess in the lap of luxury. Only to have it come crashing down around her when the sun when black. Everyone she knew was either trying to kill her or others that she knew. She needs to get to safety and the only place she knows is the Owl Mages homes in the forest. Along the way she meets a young man via the swamp and together they set out on a adventure to hopefully safety. But what they don't know is that they are part of a prophecy that is bigger than them and the world will all depend on them to save too. Can they do it?

In this book you can feel the build up to the final showdown. The excitement builds as Zak and Myrian visit Magda and go out to fulfill her prophesy. And in the meantime these two totally different young dragons learn from each other and fall for each other. Their trek is not easy, they have lots of baddies to face, and have to grow into their roles. I love this mythology and all of the action. And the romance is oh so sweet.

The demon has been freed from his cage. He has reeked havoc on Xandakar. Zak has met Myrian and learns he is a black dragon. They have tasks to complete before trying to defeat the demon.

Macy Babineaux has developed her fantasy world with shifters of all kinds. The rulers of Xandakar are the dragon shifters.

Can the dragons keep their world safe? Great series. Looking forward to book 5.

Not a standalone, but a vital link toward the arc of the whole series and not to be missed! Things are coming to a demonic head in Xandakar and our two innocent teens learn to work together to form prophesied alliances in what remains of the dragon kingdoms, while forging a bond together for whatever the future holds. 3.5 stars

Zak has grown up in family of swamp rat shifters. He has always been different and has never been able to shift. His father and brothers have been abusive Then came the day when the sun turned black and his dad, brother and townswoman tried to kill him. All people and animals have seemed to have gone crazy and murderous. Then he runs into a wise owl shifter who knows him and tells him to go to the owl seers tree.
Myrian is the white dragon princess. She has grown up very spoiled and advantaged. When the sun turned black her servant tried to kill her. She was able to escape but feels very lost. She returns home and is shot at so she flies to the owls tree for answers and help. On the way she meets Zak and they do not get along. She sees him as common and mannerless while he thinks she is spoiled and stuck up.
At the owls tree they learn that a demon attacking their world and that they are two dragons who are destined to try to stop him. Together they must travel to recruit the other dragons.
This is a great story with two characters who had a lot of growing and learning to do. It was fun to revisit characters from the previous books. It is also a good set up for the final battle yet to come.
I received a copy of this story and this is my honest review.

The Demon has been released and weaves his spell upon Xandakar. Few are spared the day the sun turned black. Those that did fight to survive and seek the Owls for guidance.

The prophecy has begun and now Myrian and Zak must travel Xandakar in search of survivors and recruit them to their cause or all of Xandakar and those who live there will be lost.

One of my real life pet hates are people who look down on others because they think they're better than everyone else. So it was no surprise i took an instant dislike to Myrian. However, I loved Zak and did warm slightly toward Myrian near the end of the book.

From daggers drawn to soft caresses. The slow and steady build up of Myrian and Zak's relationship was spot on as they visited each keep in search of survivors. Whilst they battled at each keep they learnt who they were and didn't always like who they had become.

I loved this book but for some reason I thought this was the last in the series. So by the time i had gotten to 70% i was thinking. "Well nothing has really happened to draw the story to a conclusion! I hope it will not be rushed into the last 10%." Ugh silly me. There will be a book 5 and going by the build up of this one it is going to be an explosive conclusion.

Myrian Moonglow was a Dragon shifter princess who was spoiled not aware of how she treated others she felt were beneath her unfortunately her servant Gisella the gazelle shifter was not acting her usual self she acted as if she had an attitude with Myrian, Myrian let it slide even though she wanted to make sure that it didn't continue they were picnicing it was a beautiful sunny day all of a sudden the dark tendrils were covering the edge of the sun and then completely blacking out the whole sky she looked at Gisella and her eyes even the whites were black and she had this sick smile on her face and started to attack Myrian to try and Kill her with a cork screw she told Myrian she didn't serve her anymore but she had another master she had come close to taking her ear off but she started to shift into her dragon and Gisella went falling to the ground and she flew away back to her family castle when she gets near the castle she can tell that the same thing is happening at the castle seems that everyone is trying to kill each other then the archers start to send arrows in her direction even though she gets hit she makes it away and lands far enough away to heal herself and rest. Before she heads for the The One Tree where the owls reside.
Zakari (Zak) was taken when he was a child by the Mossknots family which are muskrat shifters in the swamp they always treated Zak like he was not one of his own the oldest brother Muggs hated Zak and he was always laughing and snickering behind his back and starting fights couldn't understand what he had done to make them all except his little sister and Nan his mom his Pa Mogan was always hitting him in the back of the head but this particular day they have gotten some Crabs and have taken them to this big house Muggs called him scabby because certain times he would grow black scales on his body and his mom would scrub them off and his skin would be pink and tender and she would make the kids throw the scales into the swamp he always wondered why he looks so different from his supposed family. But they have arrived at the big house and a big woman comes walking down from the big house she looked at his pa with scorn his pa tried to make a slick deal but the woman told him that she didn't trust him and she knows that he had stolen the crabs from one of the other crab catches Zak could smell some wonderful meat cooking and he couldn't get enough of it but Beulah was only willing to pay half Pa had he and Muggs take the bags into the big house and he thought he would faint from all of the wonderful smells coming out of the kitchen then when they went back outside all of a sudden the sky started to darken Zak thought that it was an eclipse and he shouldn't be looking directly at it but something was compelling him to look and the black swirls made him not want to look away and then he looked over at Muggs his face was slack and he was still looking upward , his Pa Mogan and Beulah all looked like they were in a trance and their eyes were black the whole eye area was black and empty and now they were all looking at him and then started to speak Vish kazir, Vish kazir they were all coming toward him Zak kept backing up until he was at the end of the dock and he fell into boat and Muggs grabbed his arm and wouldn't let go Zak had to fight him off he hit him in the nose a couple of times to get him off and then he got in the boat and poled away then Muggs shifted and jumped into the swamp and came after the boat and jumped up on the side and wouldn't let go he Zak had to take the pole and wack Muggs in the head a couple of times to get him to let go. A man floated above the trees his skin as black and oily as whatever had coated the sun and his brothers eyes. He was naked his entire shiny black body rippling muscles. His bald head was titled back and he was looking at something his arms were outstretched. He knew that was not a man he knew it was a demon as he saw it floating in the sky he heard a roar that rattled the trees it chilled his heart it wasn't the demon he saw it was dark leathery wings beating there a dragon faced off with the demon and then he realized that was not the first time he had seen the black dragon it was Sorian Nightshadow from the Cypress palace through the swamp his pa had taken them to see the palace before then he saw the dragon open his jaws this time he did not roar he unleashed a torrent of black bile directly at the demon who didn't dodge the bile but opened his arms wide and the bile struck his chest he didn't even flinch he seemed to grow Zak thought that he was gaining energy Sorian was looking at the demon and his shoulders slumped Sorian was far too proud to run he didn't from the previous wars with the Red dragons he flapped his wings prepared to lunge toward the demon this ancient evil with tooth and claw the demon held a single hand up spreading Sorian's wings out he was pinned in the sky like a butterfly as in a child's collection the dragon roared again this time it was rage and helplessness Zak watched horrified waiting to see how the demon would kill him but he saw another dragon flying toward them it was black also it was his daughter Nevra Nightshadow was known to one day kill her father and take the crown when she reached her father she pulled a text a dagger from a sheath from around her neck and cut her father's heart out his head lolled to the side and the demon dropped the dragon Zak never heard the body hit the ground but he didn't won't to see anymore he wanted to get as far away as possible. Zak and Myrian will come together on a mission that they hope will vanquish this monster his minions from Xandakar forever. This is a fantastic romantic thriller. I was given a book to read, and I have provided an honest review.

Great addition to the series!

If you have not read the first 3 books in the Dragonlords of Xandakar series, I highly recommend it. Not only will they give you the background you need for this book, but they also are wonderful books. Macy Babineaux has created a fascinating world of shifters with a variety of wonderful characters - both good and evil. The plot in this story moved at a continuous pace and kept me turning the pages until I got to the end. The books all have a plug at the end that makes you gasp and want to read the next book right away. In this book it is more a cliffhanger, but I didn't mind.

I received a copy of this book and willingly leave this review.

I voluntarily read an advanced copy of this book. I have to say, if you have NOT read the start of this series, YOU MUST, otherwise you may be a little lost at the start of this book. If you have read the other books, it starts to come together rather nicely. Myrian is as snobby as any high maintenance spoiled rich princess can be, Until she meets her match with Zak, the swamp rat, or is he? They come together in such a way that it will blow your mind. Will they be able to save the 5 Kingdoms or will they all become ruins? You have to read to find out. Looking forward to Dragon Gold.

This series is best read in order as each book builds on the other. In this one, the demon is causing a lot of issues for the dragon kingdoms and it is up to a few to save them all. Zak and Myrian are the young dragons charged with gathering the other dragons needed to fight. Zak is just learning about his real family and identity and Myrian is learning to be more than a decorative princess. She really grows up as the story continues. I am looking forward to the conclusion to the series.

Wow the complexity of this series is mind boggling! This 4th book shows the devastation the Demon wroghts and also brings into focus two new dragons from the black and white groups. From a very different background they come together, to follow up on the other dragon types, to bring them together to figt the Demon foe.
It is a powerful and at time heart wrenching tale, but a story that shows the hidden strength of anyone, when their world is threatened.

This is an amazing read by Macy Babineaux. I really enjoyed the book and was excited when I got to read some of the same characters that I have read in previous books. They are all coming together to help defeat the dragon in this book. It starts off with Zak who is raised by the Mossknot's. While Zak was out with his dad and brother, Muggs catching crabs and delivering them to Beulah a darkness started to befall upon them and all their eyes turned black except for Zak. Who then had to flee to save himself. And in another place, Myrian, the white dragon was having a picnic with her maidservant. When the sun darkened her maidservant turned against her and Myrian had to flee. It appears that every kingdom people were turning against each other. Myrian and Zack headed off to the The One Tree where the owls, especially Magda, lived. Zak discovered that he was not a Mossknot but a black dragon. Magda told them that they would need to fight the demon yet first they need to go and build the alliance, on a scroll that Magda pulled out was a picture of 7 defeating a demon in the center. They would need a blue, red, green, white, and black dragon as well as a woman with a spear. On their adventure to get every one together things did not go as well as predicted. You will have to read the book. Excellent writing.

Zak had always been different. He was taller than the rest of his family; his hair was black instead of brown like everyone else’s. And they called him “Scabby” because his skin periodically grew black scabs so his mother had to rub him raw to scrub them off of him. All the other children could shift into swamp rats early on, but Zak never learned to shift at all.

Zak, his brother, and his Pa took some stolen crabs down the river to sell. As they were unloading, the sun went dark and their eyes turned totally black. After a moment, they came lurching toward him in a menacing way!

Princess Myrian was also out that day. Spoiled and oblivious, she treated her servant friend atrociously! Despite her servant’s little shows of displeasure, Myrian brushes it off, believing it impossible for her servant to find her anything but charming! That is, until the sun goes dark, her servant’s eyes turn oily black, and she attacks Myrian!

Owls in this land have wisdom and magic, and they can advise if Zak and Myrian can somehow get to them. But both are fending off attacks. Will they survive? A demon is trying to destroy the land with this darkness curse, and two beings are prophesied to be the ones to stop the demon. Can these two very different people come together and work together for the salvation of the world? Or is everyone doomed?

I love dragon stories, and this book is the continuation of a really good tale. The characters are well drawn. Zak is very likeable; Myrian can be, shall we say, “difficult”? But that shows how well the author is presenting them to the reader! The story is good and keeps the reader fully involved with moving forward to learn the outcome of this situation. I look forward to the next book as well! Highly recommended! I voluntarily read this book and my comments reflect my honest opinion.

Wow, just when I think this series can't get any better I read the next book. Macy Babineaux's ability to weave a story is fantastic. Each new book introduces a new set of main characters that you can't help but fall for. In Dragon Black, Dragon White: Darkest Day, Brightest Night we meet Zak and Myrian. Zak was raised in the swamp as a river rat on Xandakar. He always knew he didn't fit into his family but he thought it was just because he couldn't shift from human to river rat. He has been abused by his father and family all his life. Myrian Moonglow is a White Dragon princess. She has lived a life of privilege. She never learned to appreciate the life around her because she was spoiled and taught she was better than others just because she was the Moonglow princess.
When the world as you know it goes to Hell in a hand basket and suddenly you find that everything you believed to be true isn't what do you do? Zak and Myrian have to find out the hard way. The Demon Vish'Kazir is set loose by Nevra Nightshadow onto the world of Xandakar and he intends to destroy the very fabric of the world as its known. Nevra is as evil as the demon. Her daddy issues could be the end of Xandakar.
Time is running out can the dragons save Xandakar and its people. Well the dragons be able to put aside their differences and hatred of each other to stop the demon from taking over? Can Zak and Myrian unite, discover themselves and each other in time? So many questions...you won't be able to put the book down until you have all the answers. I read sigh straight through the night because I could not force myself to put down the book and wait to see what happens next. I am so excited for the 5th book to be released. I'm hoping the Nevra gets exactly what's coming to her and that it's slow and painful!!! I received an ARC from the author. I chose to write this review. It's my honest opinion.

Wow this is the first time I have read any of Macy's books and I have fallen in love with the author yes but the format of writing. This is a fast paced adventure of love and struggles..I have not read of this types of shifters and loved the way they were expressed..
A family of rat shifters are on a mission to escape from the darkness... Darkness that can be and will be a life altering experience... Zakarai is not really like the rest of his family.. Yes he is a rat shifter but he is taller and therefore is bullied by his family...so when the sun turns black things go crazy..they try to kill him.. But why? And why do all their eyes look different? What's happening? Maybe the owl shifters know...
At the same time there is Myrian who is the very protected and spoiled princess of the Dragons.. The white dragons... She has never ever had to do for herself but when the sun turns black everyone and everything wants her blood.. She has never taken care of herself so what will she do now?... Maybe the owls know and will take care of her...on the way she meets Zakarai and instead of being humble she is ugly and honestly I was expect him to leave her but he is truly good hearted.. He and she go on a journey to find out the truths and a cure for what is happening and will have to rely on each other in order to survive...remember love conquers even the deepest of pits as long as their is some good in there. I totally loved it from beginning to end and can't wait for more... Thank you .. I was given this book in exchange for my honest opinion and I reviewed it because it was amazing..

This dragon series keeps getting better !! We have Zak who didn't know he was a dragon until the Demon and his unknown sister (turn the world dark for 24 hours )and has just about everyone and everything trying to kill each other . Including the people he thought were his true family and the man he later finds out was his real father . Then we have Myrion, a spoiled as all heck white dragon princess, whose out on a picnic with her gazelle , shifter servant ( that she treats horribly and just doesn't get why she might be upset that the princess who can fly, rode a gazelle several miles for a picnic and isn't the least bit grateful for the ride or the food she packed !). The princess flys home, only to be shot at by archers and brought out of the sky . They both end up at The World Tree , home of the Shifter,Mage Owls, who tell themthey and a group of other dragons are the onlychance at saving the World from the Demon ( oh and by the way, one of the dragons, the gold one, hadn't been seen in so long, most peoole think it's a myth). Macy Babineaux writes each character in such a way you know exactly whose talking snd thinking , just by the words and mannerisms they use !! Lots of danger, and people learning things about themselves they never knew or thought possible. This series keeps you reading straight throigh from beginning to end, so be prepared !! I can't wait for book 5 , these must be read in order . 4.25 ⭐'s , I received a gifted copy of the book and am voluntarily choosing to leave an honest and unbiased review.

Okay now this is very interesting I love the first three books but this forth book is little different from all the rest. I'm not going to tell you what happened because really anything I say could be a spoiler. Just a phenomenal book, you need to read, this author is amazing.
I can't really tell you too much but the Demon Vish’Kazir has conjured up a spell that effects almost everyone on Xandakar. Zak and Myrian are young adults they both had to grow up fast (five minutes ago). When everyone went crazy they protected themselves not knowing where to go with all the mayhem Myrian decided to go to The One Tree in the middle of Xandakar. Zak doesn't know what to think seeing all the killings, when an Owl named Hephta flies to his flat boat and sends him to The One Tree. You see The One Tree was as large as a city, and hundred maybe thousands of magic owls lived in it with the great owl-mage Magda who is a Oracle. Magda tells them they must act fast NOW. I wanted to give this book 3.5 stars, but that wasn't an option so I rounded up to 4. First of all, I want to say that the story itself was very good. The writing was adequate. Other than the occasional adjective used when it should have been an adverb, it was grammatically well-executed. There were only a couple of typos - not enough to interfere with my enjoyment of the book.

So I guess my main complaint about this book has to do with the writing. Again, the writing is good and the author was skilled in her descriptions, but it could have been better. It did not evoke any feelings from me. The characters were likable enough, but I didn't care about any of them enough. Something about the narration, and I can't quite put my finger on it, caused me to pull out of the story repeatedly. Each time this happened, I would be pulled away from the characters and realize I just couldn't relate to them.

Additionally, the ending bothered me. I am grateful that this was not a cliff-hanger but, it seemed that in the author's efforts to tie up loose ends, she may have overcompensated, making the ending sound trite and predictable. It was as close as one could get to saying, “and they all lived happily ever after” when it was obvious there is much more to come in the sequel. I'm not sure I would recommend this book, but neither would I say not to read it. It is enjoyable and I'd be interested to read some of Macy Babineaux’s other books to be able to fairly rate her writing.

Best to date!
A pampered princess and a prince raised as a pauper are the only ones to bring together an alliance to save their world which has literally gone to hell. Princess Myrian Moonglow of the white dragons has spent her life being pampered and sheltered, she has put all her emphasis on station and title, until the sun turns black and her maid tries to murder her. Zakarai Mossknot has been raised in poverty and violence and must run when his family tries to kill him after the sun turned. When Zak and Myrian meet, they hate each other since Zak refuses to bow to her and feels there are more important things to worry about and Myrian just cannot seem to get past the fact he will not address her as “your highness”. They soon find themselves on a quest to save not only their world but possibly Earth too if the Demon is not stopped. The owls have found an ancient prophesy that is the only hope of defeating the demon but will Myrian and Zak be able to work together long enough to fulfill it. WOW! This is the best of series to date, the transformation of Zak and Myrian as they become equals is incredible, lots of action, evil and dragon surprises! So can’t wait for the Golden dragon finale!

Zack has grown up thinking he is the deformed son of a river rat shifter. He is so different from his siblings. The difference shows up in his father's abusive ways. When the world turns black as do the eyes of his brother, father, and the servant he is selling stolen goods to, He escapes and learns that he is actually a Black Dragon—son of the king.

Myrian, the spoiled daughter of the white Dragon King, also finds she is surrounded by people and animals who have all been taken over by the blackness. She escapes and heads for the one place she might find sanctuary. The home of the mage owls.

When the two meet up so begins the mission to form a small force to take on the demon who has turned the world black and plans to rule with a heart to match.

Each is forced to grow up and try to be strong enough to save their world. Along the way, their feelings of resentment toward each other grow into different feelings neither have experienced. It is those feelings that give them strength, that and the team they build. Are they strong enough to face the demon? Conquer him? A page turner. Don't miss this prelude to the end.

FRICKING DEMONS!!!!

How freaky to be going on with life as normal and then all of a sudden the people around you are trying to tear you apart.

Zak has been raised by the Mossknots, rat shifters. Not a happy family but he lived it and hoped he didn't belong. You know when you was a kid and convinced yourself you was either adopted or stolen? Hahaha ok just me? This is basically how he feels with this family. But zak has a better purpose that anyone could've guessed and he is going to have to learn things fast. And he becomes quite a good warrior and becomes who he was meant to be.

Myrian is a princess and a but of a spoilt brat. Tbh with how she talks I'm surprised an attempt on her life before the demons came along hadn't happened. But even with that when all hell kicked off she went back to try and get her family. Through all of this meeting with Zak and the quest, Myrian becomes into her role well and grows so much that you kind of feel proud.

This journey was both growing and bonding for these two and getting to meet the other kingdoms.  Now the question is who is the Gold Dragon. Creepy and exciting read.

Wow! I was asked to read this book and I am so glad I did. My only regret is that I hadn't read the previous three in the series. It's VERY unlike me to read a book out of order, especially in a series such as this one but the description had me intrigued and I am SO glad I read it!

Zak and Myrian are well written characters from two VERY differing backgrounds who are forced to join together and prepare for a great battle against evil. They hate each other to begin with, but their developing mutual acceptance and love is beautifully written in this fast paced and suspense filled shifter tale. Yes, it is focused on dragons but, many other animal shifters appear and this makes for an intriguing concept.

I would recommend reading this book but, maybe in order! I think having read the previous ones I may have had a bit of a better understanding. That being said, this book was well worth reading and was very enjoyable and a page turner! I can't wait to read the ones prior and also the final one to come! A very enjoyable read!

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

OMG I have only read book 3 but this is one awesome series to read. Zak grows up amongst the Mossknots swamp rats until the day the sky turns black and everyone turns against him and tries to kill him especially his brother Muggs. Instinctively he heads north and gets a little help from an owl-mage. Myrian is a white dragon princess who gets a lesson in reality when her servant Gisella turns against her the day the sky turns black. She heads to the One Tree hoping the owls will know what to do. Nevra a black dragon has freed the demon and it is he who turns the sky black in the beginnings of his plan of dominion over this world and Earth too.

Truly captivating and riveting and one heck of a page turner is all I can say. Ms. Babineaux truly did a tremendous job of taking her readers on an adventure with a romantic twist. I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys high fantasy, adventure and romance.

I voluntarily read an advance copy and wish my book budget had some cash in it as I need to add this one to my book collection.
