The boys travel to Sri Lanka to recover a top secret laser that was stolen by n uptight Englishman who plans to sell it to the Russians for gold. Needless to say that the team is not on board with this. They team up with an officer in the Sri Lankan national air-force, which is a proper by the rules, but wants a better life for himself kind of guy. So the enemy might be closer that the team thinks.
This one, believe it or not, plays for more laughs than usual. The body count is surprisingly low. This book comes in at 186 pages. Not much violence occurs until we reach page 100. That's not to say this is dull. There is a lot of cloak and dagger stuff. Plotting and back biting. It keeps things rolling along.

The Team heads to Sri Lanka in this fast paced and ass, kicking adventure. This is a very humorous Able Team as well the first funny thing being the Lieutenant the Sri Lankan government sends to act as a liaison for the team. He expects it to be an easy job free of danger unlike his bomb searching job at the airport. Of course, within hours of meeting the team Lyons blows out the Lieutnent’s eardrums with a Magnum blast to the head of a Korean terrorist that’s searching for them.
They are there searching for a pretty cool device: a stolen US government, laser, capable of very precise damage with the use of a computer. That’s just the set up, though as the team goes on a rampage, taking down hordes of thugs and Korean hitmen all under the control of a paedophile Englishman, who has stolen the device. So as you can see no ethnic groups are spared in this book as the team mouse down everyone in their path. Lyons also drops a hilarious line to the British speaking Sri Lankan when he protests that also speaks English: “I speak American.”
The boys almost seemed like they’re on vacation as well in this one, taking time out in between gun and knife battles to sunbathe and buy cassette tapes of muddy Waters and reggae tunes as they chill on the beach, waiting for the laser to come in up by ship. A great read, very entertaining and funny and I pretty much read the entire book in a slow workday as it was easy to read and enjoyable.
And last but not least how about that cover? Gil Cohen‘s iconic masterpiece on the front cover of Tech War was used for several gold eagle ads throughout the 80s and I can see why. Fantastic all around!

Fast paced, non stop action, lots of weapons descriptions and violence.
Pretty much business as usual then for any entry in the ‘mens action-adventure’ genre … this time time around though although this is enjoyable in a pulpy z-movie throwaway style it was really lacking something for me. Still okay for a quick read before going back to work after the New Years break.
The main characters were as usual in the series, although Lyon’s was even more of a stereotypical American hating everyone not American extreme right wing personality.
The plot such as it was is little more than an expanded (very stretched out) climax to a whole other story …. it might have worked better if the main plot seen here had been condensed into 30-40 pages and then some other story follows straight on.
Overall it wasn’t that different to any other entry in the series but this felt ‘off’ to me for a few reasons.
Anyone not family with this sub-genre will absolutely hate this book whereas I found it disappointingly bad.

A solid entry to this series, yes it's a thin plot with just enough threads to keep the action moving but that's the genre. The plot puts the group in Sri Lanka trying to find stolen US military hardware which is suppose to come through on its way to being sold to the Russians. Only thing is that the enemy knows they are there so they have to stay alive while waiting on the shipment.
Again thin plot but I recommend. It's an easy read with lots of action and can be read as a solo book.

A spin off series from his Executioner books. This series follows several secondary characters that band together. Recommended
