There is something about Idonea’s storytelling that captivates me. She’s an impressive writer and her stories are always unique and compelling. Wish You Were Here is no exception.

The gorgeous cover and the sweet synopsis for this short story drew me in, but the story itself was completely different from what I was initially expecting. I can’t really say much about the plot without ruining it for future readers, but even though the story had melancholy air to it (bringing forth a burst o

I genuinely don’t know how I can review this without spoiling everything; I am sure that when you start reading, you will get a sense of what is going on somewhere in the middle. Or if not, I guess I can say that there is a twist in the end, so you might have to prepare for it.

The budding friendship between Oakley and Bobby is believable – Oakley is pretty much invisible in the eyes of his parents, especially his mother who are in deep grief after losing Oakley’s sister. So it’s understandable h

An unexpected twist

Wish You Were Here has one of those amazing endings that leaves you staring at your e-reader. I’m not sure what I was expecting from the book, but it certainly wasn’t that. Unfortunately what makes it so unexpected also limits what I can say in my review without spoilers. I will say that I didn’t realize quite how connected I’d become to the characters until the conclusion twisted my gut.

I picked this book purely for sentimental reasons. After reading that it was set in the C

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review through Wicked Reads.

This was such a wistful and interesting read for me. It was definitely something different in the YA category. I could somewhat predict what would happen from the blurb, but that didn't take away from the story for me.
Although short, I enjoyed this short and emotion packed story and would recommend it.

This is the first story I’ve read by Asta Idonea, and I loved it.

The first scene set the mood immediately, and pulled me into the story. Although it’s not a long read, I didn’t feel as though it was too short either. The characters still had enough room to grow, and I got invested in them quickly. The ending left me with a bittersweet feeling, as it’s not really a HEA, yet I still felt hope for the characters’ future. Both Oakley and Bobby have a lot to work through, and I liked the way they gr

“All those crazy things we did, didn't think about it, just went with it... I love the way you are. It's who I am, don't have to try hard... No, I don't wanna let go. I just wanna let you know...I wish you were here.” ~ Avril Lavigne (Wish you Were Here)

When Oakley's sister dies, he feels like the rug has been pulled from under him. His parents, especially his mother, are not dealing well with it at all. In an effort to get away, the family rents a cottage for a holiday. The main issue with this

Oakley is on Holiday with his parents shortly after the untimely death of his sister. In her hauntingly beautiful Wish You Were Here, Asta Idonea examines the ways grief affects us, and what it takes to return to life. From the first sentence, we’re sucked into the moods and thoughts of her very flawed, but relatable characters.
