Bree wolfs characters have unique personalities and a depth that makes you just love them. Christine has such a witty complex mind she is always plotting and planning. Another winner in my book. I love that we got to see Catherine's marriage from a different perspective.

This book builds on the 3rd book in the series, “The Forgotten Wife”, where William loses his memory after being thrown by a horse. In that book, his brother Wesley and his wife’s sister Christine, work to help William regain love for his wife, as his memory of their love does not come back. Wesley and Christine (who was posing as Catherine, William’s wife), leave for Wesley’s family manor to allow William time to heal, and supposedly learn about his wife from her sister. However, we do not learn what goes on with Wesley and Christine during that absence, but it is obvious something went on between them.
This book looks at the same situation from the eyes of Wesley and Christine.
We also find an interesting reversal of the normal situation: the woman does not want to marry, but the man does! Ms. Wolf does a good job of describing this situation, as well as bringing the characters to the happily-ever-after stage that the reader wants. Along the way, we meet a few new characters, as well as characters that have appeared in other books by Ms. Wolf. If you have read book 3, you are immediately drawn into the story. An enjoyable book, for young adults and older.

Christine Dansby and Wesley Everett cannot stand each other. They try to get along for the family’s sake because her sister (Catherine) married his brother (William), but every time they are in the same room they never miss the chance to argue and hurt each other’s pride. Forced to cooperate to rekindle William’s love for Catherine (because he suffers from amnesia after an accident), they will find out that their own hearts need to love and be loved to reach that happiness they both long for and fear.

Christine and Wesley got me curious a lot in the third book of the series “Forbidden Love Novella” (The Forgotten Wife) and, now that I finished reading their story, I can say that they definitely are my favourite couples among those penned by Bree Wolf. In my opinion, they represent the more thrilling and more amazing expression of love. They openly say they cannot stand each other but deep down they are madly in love with each other! Neither of them is ready to accept their love because it is unexpected, not planned and, in the beginning, not wanted but is that not the more beautiful aspect of this feeling? The surprise, the unpredictability and the magic that make us feel we cannot live without that special person that we would never have imagined in our life.

Christine is the character more determined to push away all those feelings Wesley stirs in her heart. She does not believe in marriage and, most of all, she does not believe in undying love. She is convinced that love is not eternal and she is resolute to never officially commit to a real relationship with any man. The only problem is that Wesley Everett is not like the other men and what Christine feels when she is with him is not something she can put easily aside.

“You only see the risks, the dangers, the losses and the sadness. They carry more weight for you because in your opinion happiness is generally short-lived. It is only a matter of time before good will turn to bad, and you believe that if you ignore the good, then the bad will hurt less.”

Ah, Wesley.. Definitely my favourite hero in this series! Stubborn, determined and terribly sexy as well! The way he tries to win Christine over is perfect and, though it has already been seen (after all, there is only one thing that a person in love can do to make their beloved one understand their feelings) is never old and never lacks originality. I loved his persistence, because that is often what a man has to show to reassure a woman of the sincerity of his love and I appreciated his tenacity and respect for his beliefs, though at the end of the book I felt a little disappointed with the decision they both made because I found it was a little inconsistent given what was said throughout the whole story.

The narration flows really fast and, for those who have read the previous book, lacks surprises when it comes to the story of Catherine and William. Basically, the author tells the same story but this time she focuses on the events that happen in the lives of those that were secondary characters in the The Forgotten Wife. We could say that “An Unwelcome Proposal” shows what happens in the background, all those things not seen in the previous story and answers some questions about those, now protagonists, that try to think about the best plan to help the married couple be happy again. For this reason, this book can be read even if you have not read The Forgotten Wife but I recommend getting a copy of both and have fun with the Everett brothers and the Dansby sisters anyway!

Enjoyable, captivating and with several scenes that might cause heart-stopping moments -without being indecent though- “An Unwelcome Proposal” is a story I must recommend if you love romantic comedies set in the Regency era, filled with humour and sweet moments for a perfect mix not to be missed!

Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Bree did it again. Gripped from the very first line, I couldn't stop reading it. I was so thrilled to see that the main characters were Christine and Wesley who were present in another novel while helping William to fall in love again with his wife Catherine, as he forgot to be married by losing temporarily his memory.
Bree Wolf excels in historical romance and this novel confirms it! So beautifully written, lovely characters.
A lovely romance about Wesley and Christine whom as I mentioned before we met in the previous book of the series and here we find out that they got their happily ever after as deserved.

An Unwelcome Proposal is the fourth book in Bree Wolf’s Forbidden Love series, and it works perfects fine as a standalone novel. Although it works fine as a standalone novel, I do believe I would have understood certain aspects of the story better had I read the prior book.

Although I was new to the characters in this story, I did enjoy watching their romance develop. I wasn’t crazy about this one, but it was a fun quick read. It easily pulled me in, and I was happy to power through the story to see how things developed. It also has me curious about some of the characters we were introduced to in this one, as I want to see how their stories play out.

All in all, this was a fun quick read.

***I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book from the author in exchange for a true and honest review.***

Let me say the title of this book is very accurate. We have the two main characters who are both thinking and seeking in two separate directions.

Christine has come to the aid of her sister, Catherine. Which is what good sister’s do. She left London immediately, when she received word that her brother-in-law had been injured. Christine’s plan to help her injured brother-in-law, ultimately causes her question her ideas about marriage and love. Especially since this puts her direct contact with Wesley, her brother-in-law’s brother. Wesley who makes her heart go pitter patter. This is not what she wants, so she thinks.

Wesley request had no idea that the presence of Christine at Harrington Park, would result into such a need. Wesley desire for Christine is different from what Christine desires. Wesley faces continuous rejection from Christine. Everytime he is the presence of her, he becomes very rattle. Wesley has to show Christine that marriage and love is true thing with ups and downs.

Wesley and Christine had to go full circle until they both desire the same thing. Christine had to learn trust her feelings with Wesley.

I enjoyed this book. It did start off kind of slow, but it picks up in the 4th chapter. I suggest reading the previous book, “The Forgotten Wife”, so you can understand the background. I look forward to reading more from Bree Wolf.

Christine Dansby never wanted to marry. She thought Wesley Everett felt the same way. Therefore, she reasoned, Wesley was the perfect man with whom she could rid herself of her virginity and explore the delights and mysteries of passion without the conventional "trappings" of marriage. To her deducement, it would be the perfect, no-strings-attached arrangement. What she didn't count on, was Wesley saying "no"... and then countering with a marriage proposal!

I loved Wesley for being an honorable gentleman that, though sorely tempted, resisted all of Christine's amorous advances, because she would not make a lasting, legal commitment to him and ONLY HIM. I identified with Christine's trust issues and doubts that a marriage could forever remain happy and more than mere contentment. And, I wanted to stand up and cheer, the moment she bravely, and loudly, decided to go "all in" and claim her man.

These characters were delightful and their playful, sometimes irreverent, banter caused me to laugh out loud more than once. And the way they pursued each other, for their own, very different reasons, reminded me much of the military tactic of "advance and retreat".

Wesley and Christine's story is a study in the expression: "Life is what happens while making other plans." And, I immensely enjoyed every minute of those initial plans going awry!

I was sent a copy of this by the author for an honest review. Well, I really enjoyed it. It was so easy to read. Set in the 1800's, the story revolves round 2 sisters, Catherine and Christine and 2 brothers, William and Wesley. William and Catherine are married but, when William has an accident, he loses the last 5 years of memory so doesn't recall being married. The story then goes on to relate the efforts of Christine and Wesley trying to get William and Catherine back together again. Christine doesn't want to get married but chooses Wesley to sleep with. On the other hand, Wesley is very keen to marry Christine. Very interesting to read about chaperones, etc. I wonder what today's generation would make of having to be chaperoned everywhere?!!!

An Unwelcome Proposal: by Bree Wolf (Forbidden Love Novella #4)
I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.
We met the main characters of Christine and Wesley in the previous book in this series. Christine is the twin sister of Catherine and Wesley is the brother of William, the one who forgot his wife Catherine in the previous book (The Forgotten Wife).
This is another engaging story and I enjoyed the journey Christine and Wesley travelled to get their HEA.
This can be read as a stand-alone book.

First of all I'd like to say that I love the new covers. Though the previous ones were kind of a trademark for the author (with a look you instantly knew it was one of her books), the new ones are ellegant and very "Regenc-y".
Review of 02 - 25 - 2017
3,5 stars! I would propably go for 4 stars if Christine wasn't so annoying. For a smart woman, so much progressive in her own time, who can manipulate the feelings of others and help them find happiness, she sure is pretty stupid when it comes to knowing her own heart's desires. She made up her mind about love and marriage and men in general in a very young age, that she wouldn't change her ways even when love hit her in the face.
As for Wesley, he was introduced in the previous book as a famous rake, someone who would never settle, but eventually he was the smart one to persue her and try to change her mind.
Things escalated very rushed at the end but I think that is expectable giving the short length of the story.
As always the writting was pretty good.

In this novella we meet Christine and Wesley again. A second story following the fall out of William's memory loss, but this time focusing on and told from the perspective of Wesley and Christine. I really like Wesley, I think he is very kind and considerate. But seeing all of Christine's choices this second time round, she comes across as far more shallow and childish. I quite liked Christine in The Forgotten Wife, and I do still like her in this novella, just quite a bit less. All the reasons I thought she was a great character before seemed so changed from this perspective. Rushing to her sister's side after her husband is gravely injured, concocting a ridiculous plan to help bring Catherine and William together again, going into hiding to give them time without interference, arranging for them to dance. In this book becomes rushing to her sister's side while leaving a friend in distress behind and then being unreasonably and childishly upset that Wesley's letter (sent in haste and when circumstances were unclear) wasn't more detailed, thinking her rather risky plan makes her the smartest in all the land, being a spoiled brat and complaining that accomadations aren't to her standards and then putting both her's and Wesley's reputations at risk as well as the entire plan for her sister's and William's happiness, and once again thinking she's just so clever and they never could have done pulled the plan off without her.

I really loved this plot, when told through William and Catherine, but it felt less believable and less endearing told through Wesley and Christine. I did appreciate and admire that Chrisitine was a woman determined to design her own future, that she need not be married to persue her own happiness. Had this novella come before William and Catherine's story, I probably would have enjoyed it more. I just enjoyed The Forgotten Wife so much that this one just couldn't live up to it for me.

Many thanks to Bree Wolf who provided me with a copy of this novella in exchange for an honest review

There are so many words that could describe Christine Dansby - stubborn, cynical, high spirited, inventive and rebellious. However, at heart she is compassionate and kind. She just does not believe in marriage for herself. She's not even a "glass half empty" girl. In her opinion, the glass is doomed to be empty as she doesn't expect anything good to happen in life unless she has full control over every situation. In an attempt to assist her sister after her husband's accident, Christine concocts a plan that puts her in Wesley Everett’s orbit. He has been attracted to her ever since he met her, but Christine is very firm about letting him know that his chances of marriage to her are non-existent, given that marriage is another of those institutions she does not believe in. It takes making a plan such as Christine would concoct, for Wesley to finally get her attention and make her second guess her outlook on life. Although a clean romance, this one is far from sweet as Christine is hardly the kind of woman to engender sympathetic feelings. I enjoyed Wesley's character, his firm stand with Christine and his honourable nature. Although this book is part of a series and some of the characters in previous books appear in this one too, it is nevertheless a standalone. I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.

This was an entertaining historical romance series, albeit each installment was relatively short, not allowing the characters to grow effectively. The characters each had distinct personalities and the bits of humor were welcoming. Strange incidents were proposed that I had never heard of before, some of which were totally believable and some which were absolutely not. It was not always easy to understand or empathize with the characters. here were some grammatical errors, but none that lead to distraction. This author does have a strange imagination.

The characters in this installment were much more believable than those in the prior installments of this series. Although the characters lacked some depth, they were daring and piquant. It was a quick, witty read that I enjoyed for the second time. Unusual storyline, but it worked! Therefore, I bumped up the rating from 3 to 4.

Each story is able to stand on its own, however, characters do crossover within the installments, so the reader is offered more insight by reading the books in the order they were presented. On the positive side, these books are clean, which I personally prefer. Each conclusion contains its own unique H.E.A.

What an odd novella. I don't want to give anything away but I think I might have to because the main character in the book makes some choices that I just had trouble with. She is just not the kind of character I like reading about. She tricks people to help them, she has good intentions but her mind is twisted. She also never wants to marry but wants to have a lover? What the what.....in regency England. It just floored me and I was unprepared for it. This was a clean read in the sense that it had no details and only kissing but they talked about sex a lot. I was impressed by our hero, I really read the book for him. I wished he would go find a woman worthy of him and his honor. I guess if you look at it like she really had no idea what she was asking or getting into like a teen then I can understand but it still was a very odd plot for a regency book.

We met Christine and Wesley in the 3rd novella of this series and I am totally amused at the reversal of roles where the male wants to get married and the female is adamant that she does not. This was such a brilliant concept and so unusual that it had me chuckling most of the time.
Bree Wolf has once again written an brilliant story.
Did I enjoy the it? Most definitely!
Would I recommend it? Again, yes, most definitely!
So if you want a really great read with lots of fun moments and a terrific story with really strong characters and a wonderful subject matter then you must read this novella (but I would suggest that you read the 3rd one first so that you get the full picture).
I read a free copy of this book and this my voluntary and unbiased review.

The characters from The Forgotten Wife are revisited in An Unwelcome Proposal and the story is retold from a different POV. Christine is determined not to marry since she believes that love does not last. She offers Wesley a proposition that surprises him. Wesley finds himself falling in love with Christine, and she tries her best to resist him. A HEA is had by all, but the match was made in a very clever way. I enjoyed learning more about Christine and Wesley and look forward to reading more from Ms. Wolf.

I laughed so much with this book because I really loved every detail of it! I enjoyed so much every aspect! What if you don’t believe in love and you find love? Christine finds so much hard this last days to cooperate with her heart and her mind. What if you finally find love and you don’t have the same respond? Wesley tries his best to win her heart, but that’s enough? Read it and don’t leave it!

I found this book for free somewhere but now I cannot remember. I had to have been drawn in by that cover and the fact that I assumed the story is Regency.

England, November 1818.

The book starts out with Christine and her friend, Marrianne, who is married and thinks her husband is having an affair. Suddenly, Christine is called away by Wesley Everett. He has written her to tell her that her brother in law has been in an accident.

Christine's sister, Catherine, is married to Lord Welsey Everette's brother. The brother has fallen and hurt his head. When Christine arrives at their home, she discovers that he doesn't remember his wife. As the days go by, his memory has not returned but his physical shape is better. Under the guise of this man's recovery, Welsely and Christine choose to leave the couple to get to know each other again and hopefully Catherine's husband will either gain his memory or fall in love with his wife again.

Wesley and Christine leave the home for Wesley's estate. During the ride there, Christine comes up with the plan of pretending to be his mistress since she is traveling alone with an unmarried man. Wesley doesn't like this plan. He tries to change Christine's mind and decides to propose to her. She refuses him. The idea is that Christine is afraid of marriage. She doesn't want to commit to a man and then have the fire go out of a marriage and be miserable the rest of her life. From there, things get even more strange.

I ended up not liking this story at all. I'm glad the story was as short as it was because only the first two chapters were tolerable. I plowed through to the end for the sake of a review but it wasn't entirely worth finishing.
I found the reasons behind what the characters did weak and not enough to explain something that had close to a zero chance of happening. Although this book ends up being clean from sex, there is a still plenty of talk about being a mistress and taking a man on the side...or woman. This is the ploy between the two characters. I just couldn't wrap my head around a female lead, in Regency England, being very open about her preference to become someone's mistress rather than marry.

"To tell you the truth, I had my heart set on taking a lover. It's such a rebellious notion for a woman, and I've always seen myself as a bit of a rebel."

NO, just no! If you tend to be drawn to historical sweet romance books, skip this novella. It was not only odd, it didn't make sense. Although clean, the discussion of being a mistress might bother some readers. I didn't enjoy this story and I really didn't like Christine.

Content: no language, clean.

Clean cute Romance

I first disliked Christine & was going to give this story only 4 stars, but then I came to my senses. Christine was just as the author wanted her..sure of herself in her opinions & desires. Otherwise she couldn't finally (after gritting my teeth during her 4 refusals of marriage) accept the idea of marriage. I had an amazing life with my soulmate for 29 years..nit nearly long enough. I was frustrated with Christine, but then I remembered that England marriages back then WERE arranged & not made with love in mind. So of course she was jaded about marriage. I do think she was a little TOO sure of herself & bossy, never giving an inch on any decision. I wouldn't have liked her if I knew her. The ride to Stanhope was a great incident, but I didn't like the end of book concerning Eleanor. I may not get to read her story, so hers is a cliffhanger here. I was glad to read a clean romance. There's plenty of steam for me in these pages without porn. I commend this author for writing clean romances that I'm not afraid to share with my granddaughters.

I received a free copy of the historical novel An Unwelcome Proposal: A Regency Romance (A Forbidden Love Novella Series book 4) by Bree Wolf and this review was given freely.
An Unwelcome Proposal completes the fourth and last of the Forbidden series novellas and relates the rocky love story of Wesley and Christine. The story begins as The Forgotten Wife did with Wesley's Brother's riding accident and Christine's call to her sister's side. In an Unwelcome Proposal, the events are told from the view of Wesley and Christine. Wesley, the playboy, has trouble convincing his Sister in law, free spirited Christine, that marriage can be rewarding and not restricting. The story that unfolds is at times sad and other times humorous but ultimately has a heart warming and happy ending. While well written, I would have liked this story better if it was a stand alone or if it did not cover the same time frame as The Forgotten Wife.

A sweet addition to this novella set

Another Sweet addition to this novella set. It was interesting to see the lengths that Christine would go to convince, even herself, that she was one that would never marry. However, she never considered the possibility of falling in love in her sure fire scenario! There was a lot of repetition at the beginning of this book from the prior book about Catherine, but it only highlighted some issues in case it had been awhile since you had read the prior book. A truly enjoyable book that was very, very clean. A couple of kisses that were mentioned and the possibility of an affair together for Christine and Wesley. I would recommend this book to anyone that enjoys clean, sweet romance. I did receive a copy of this book from the author, however this is my own voluntary review of my own thoughts and opinions.

Not so much Forbidden Love as Unwelcome

This book had me in stiches from beginning to end. The back and forth banter between the main characters was delightful. Bree Wolf female characters are usually strong, independent women, who refuse to be any man's property. Usually they have the means to avoid conforming to conventional norms. In "An Unwelcome Proposal", Christine Dansby has met her match as Wesley Everrett has no intentions of conforming either. Everything about him irritates her ,and she drives him crazy. Thus the hilarious insults covered in sweet charm they toss about. Yet, in true Bree Wolf fashion, the insults hide a matching passion for each other. Only Bree Wolf can make me believe that two such strongly mismatched individuals can come to love each other forever. But then with Bree Wolf, love always finds a way and there is always a happily ever after.

An amnesia/ mistaken identity type romance is the background for this story.

Christine's sister needs her help. Her beloved husband has fallen from his horse and had no memory of his wife.

Christine is thrown together with her brother-in-law's brother Wesley in a crazy plan of switching identities in the hope that even without his memory, the happy couple will fall in love all over again.

Christine is anti-marriage but proposes an arrangement with Wesley to become lovers. He won't agree to sleep with her unless they marry. The rest of the story is spent with a bit of angst and tension as everyone decides what their true feelings are and how much they will risk for love.

This is a clean romance with no descriptive love scenes.

Interesting, somewhat frustrating

I enjoyed this book but was put off by the sheer unbelievableness of the plot. That a man who’d lost his memory, would fall in love with his wife again, believing she was his sister-in-law, doesn’t make sense to me. And that he wouldn’t find it suspect that his “wife” (actually his sister-in-law) would leave with another man for an extended period of time. Let’s just say the author stretches our credulity to breaking point in this book! I found the hero very lovable, the heroine not so much. There were few typos and the dialogue was humorous and enjoyable.
