"I've been procrastinating most of my life. If a task is even remotely unpleasant, my tendency is to put it off. It's not that I'm lazy; I'm actually very busy. I just wait as long as possible to do the really hard stuff."
This is how author Walter Henegar describes his life. Does it sound like your experience? If so, this booklet will help you see procrastination from God's point of view, and show you how to change.
Henegar recognizes that even though procrastination is acceptable in our culture, it is a deeply rooted sinful pattern in our lives. Only by God's goodness and grace can our hearts be changed.
Do you procrastinate? Do you doubt that you can change? Ask God to change you, and trust that he is able to do it.
This was a timely and humbling reminder of my lifelong struggle with procrastination. I found the author’s personal struggles quite relatable, and hearing how much progress he’s made makes me hopeful that I, too, can overcome this sin.
I really appreciate the biblical focus and openness of the author. I found a lot of similarities between his story and my own, especially in his collegiate last-minute work. God used some of the physiological issues brought on by my own sinful choices to bring me along a parallel path. The truth of the Scripture is the only means in dealing with such matters of the heart, and this is would be a great resource for counseling others or even oneself.
A nice quick read (only a few pages), but it offers good insight into procrastination. For me, I like to finish things, so I’ll finish things that aren’t really God’s work for my life. Also reminded to trust that God can change us!
Don’t put this book off. As a teacher of high schoolers, this book applies to them so well (and would have been great for me in high school as well). Recommended
Don’t judge a book by it’s cover–and also it’s size. This little booklet is useful for biblical counseling as a booklet for the counselee to go through and underline/highlight. It is practical, addresses the heart of the issue and is Gospel based and Gospel driven–all major plus as to why one should have this book handy. I just used it with someone in my church and realized that I can definitely use this booklet with others as well. As with all good counseling resources, it’s not only useful for others–it was also convicting for me as the Pastor reading this. Walter Henegar’s booklet has challenged me to think about procrastination biblically–typically I think of it as being lazy or something I’m not doing. The author notes that it’s not just an issue of something absent, but also what is it that is present and a substitute of what one ought to be doing. The booklet is also able to give gospel hope for why believers can change. Highly Recommended.
This little booklet is packed full with biblical wisdom and practical insight on the topic of "procrastination". As a serial procrastinator myself, the material presented was helpful and immediately applicable.
Ultimately, Henegar demonstrates how procrastination is birthed from deep rooted sins and patterns in our life. The only way to attack procrastination (and the sin that it originates from) is through the power of the Spirit to produce "self-control" in us, prioritizing the right things, setting up accountability, and working wisely!
