I received this book from the author and the Connecting Readers and Writers group in exchange for a honest review.
My Thoughts: This had the makings of a great beauty and the beast romance, but it fell short. It seemed to be missing something. There was no spark.
The Heroine: She made some dumb decisions. After she is compromised by the hero, she returns to London. At a ball, they meet again and he publically calls her a whore. So he comes by and apologizes. Seemingly, all is forgiven. Later on i ...more

A smart, sexy Regency romance
Author Cheri Champagne does a great job combining intricate plotting, evocative period details, and fiery love scenes. Love and Deceit features great chemistry between the clever protagonist Katherine and the brooding Marquess of Withington. I truly felt their passion and angst. In fact, all the characters are believable and well-rounded. Throw in a fascinating Napoleonic War spy subplot, and the novel was hard to put down.

Delightful story of love, laughter, a bit of history and a excellent way to spend your free time. Wish I could get her next book, as I enjoyed this one so much. Imagine how difficult it was to portray a man in the time of being a woman brought one lacing up our dresses with more fabric than we today would use on a entire wardrobe. Truthfully it was also nice not to spend 30 pages to describe making love as we see so much today. She gives us enough for our imaginations to take it from her words.
