Daniel and his brother escape the shifter labor camps where they had been imprisoned for a few years but Daniel is the only one who makes it to safety. He has been shot with a silver bullet and is barely coherent enough to drive into the city to look for a place to rest. As soon as he gets out of his truck he is accosted by Wood. Wood is a shifter too and was lucky enough to be in the area when Daniel stopped. He is p

This book worked for me on two levels: the wolf shifters are very much a mix between man and wolf (on a much closer level than in most shifter books), and the plot line of wolves being hunted and killed, even used in labor camps, was realistically horrifying. It brought this book closer to "reality" for me, if such a word can be used in the context of a paranormal story like this. I kept thinking that this scenario, the one where humans brutally suppress shifters once their existence is discover ...more
**Review for Rarely Dusty Books**

Carved in Wood is one of those stories that have a lot of potential and start out well enough, but soon turn stale. Unfortunately despite its good start, Carved in Wood quickly turns to porn without a plot.

The story is set in a world where it is not a good thing to be a shifter. Shifters are hunted at every turn and often round up killed or put in labor camps. To introduce a plot like this, there has to be a good, solid world building, something this story lacks.

More porn than plot.

Daniel escapes a camp holding wolf packs prisoners. Along the way, he loses his brother and is shot. He quickly runs into Wood, a shifter who identifies him for what he is immediately, and who immediately takes it upon himself to help Daniel.

The first few chapters moved quickly and were okay—though, perhaps the pacing could have slowed down a touch more for us to really get a feel for the characters—but very early in the story, Daniel and Wood mate and I felt the story fizz
If you want to read a HOT, well created PORN, this short novella is for you. Wood and Daniel are hot together, sure but that's all what we get in this story. The main storyline is to shallow and bland, circling around Woods obsession with Daniel. Sean Michael is really good at creating hot sexy mates, but I wouldn't mind a bit more developed storyline. I can't rate this story based on a HOT sex scenes between Wood and Daniel.
I really did not get this book. It felt aimless within the plot as well as the relationship between Daniel and Wood. I don't think there was enough world building to make everything clear.
Sean Michael is a much better writer than this book demonstrates.

Not much plot but it was a nice little read. It wasn't complicated or anything. I was more or less a romance.

Often referred to as "Space Cowboy" and "Gangsta of Love" while still striving for the moniker of "Maurice," Sean Michael spends his days surfing, smutting, organizing his immense gourd collection and fantasizing about one day retiring on a small secluded island peopled entirely by horseshoe crabs. While collecting vast amounts of vintage gay pulp novels and mood rings, Sean whiles away the hours ...more
