“I always thought that just having you in my life was enough. As long as you were happy and healthy, it was enough to be on the outside looking in, but it’s just not good enough anymore.”
Savannah Boudreaux is not the same person she was two years ago. She survived her husband’s brutal attack when he tried to kill her, she divorced him and she’s been slowly healing herself and getting stronger, getting her sense of self back after so many years of physical and mental abuse. And she’s even felt desire for the first time in many years, something she thought would never happen again. But the man she’s attracted to is Ben, who’s been part of their family forever, Ben who Savannah was in love with when she was fifteen, and Ben who’s friendship means so much to her that she can’t afford to lose it.
Benjamin Preston has been friends with the Boudreaux brothers since childhood, he’s been there for every Boudreaux joy and tragedy and he’s wanted Savannah for as long as he can remember. But in high school she was too young for him and then college happened and their lives went different ways, and the day he found out she was going to marry her college sweetheart was the worst day of his life, until he found her bleeding and almost broken by her husband’s hands. But it’s been two years since then and Ben can’t pretend anymore that he only wants to be her friend, he’s determined to finally make his move and make Savannah his.
“You are the beginning and the end of me, Savannah. I don’t work without you.”
Finally we have Savannah and Ben’s story and it was just as sweet as I’ve come to expect from this author and with none of the angst I was dreading. I liked both Savannah and Ben, especially Ben with all his sexy tattoos and it was great to finally see them get their HEA.
Their romance was easy and uncomplicated, just like you’d expect from two people who has known each other almost all their lives, who has always had chemistry between them but the timing was never right before, they weren’t ready for the love that bloomed between them now.
It’s always so sad to have a beloved series come to an end and I’ve loved this sweet and romantic series. A must read for those who like their romance to be very sweet and romantic with no unnecessary angst. Highly recommended.
I cross to her and kiss her forehead, not touching her anywhere else.
She smells like sunshine and strawberries.
She smells like she used to before her life went sideways.
Fuck me, I want her.
“I always thought that just having you in my life was enough. As long as you were happy and healthy, it was enough to be on the outside looking in, but it’s just not good enough anymore.”
“This is what I want,” he whispers. “You are what I want, Savannah.”
I love him. I’ve always loved him. But this is Ben.
“You’re amazing, Savannah.” He presses his lips ever so gently to the soft skin below my ear … “I love you so much my body aches with it.”
“Um, Ben?”
“Yes, Angel.”
“Are you pierced?”
His lips tip up into a smile. “I am.”
“What I had before was dark and evil and wrong. It wasn’t love. It was never love.
“This, right here, is love.”
“I don’t want to fuck this up, Savannah. We worked too hard to get here.”
“We’re not going to fuck it up.” I tuck my face in his neck and breathe him in. “I heard a saying once. His love roars louder than her demons. I can’t explain this any better than that.”
“You’re everything.” He kisses me, his lips much gentler than the rest of him. “You are the beginning and the end of me, Savannah. I don’t work without you.”
