Wrangling her crazy family by day and writing a bestselling YA fantasy series by night has taken its toll. In short, Colbie's so over it that she's under it. Chasing Christmas Eve is book four in the Heartbreaker Bay series by Jill Shalvis. I have loved this series from the start. This small community of people that live and work in this small courtyard in San Francisco have become part of my family. I was so excited to finally get Spence’s story and it was amazing. He is everything I hoped he would be and so much more.

I've read a lot of Jill Shalvis' series but I have to say that this is by far my favorite from her. She brings together a close group of friends flawlessly and makes me fall in love with each character. In Chasing Christmas Eve we get to learn more about Spencer Baldwin, the workaholic of the group.
Spencer is introverted and usually working instead of out having fun. But when he meets Colbie, a fellow workaholic, he learns to that taking a break is a necessity. Bot ...more
Sometimes you don’t need to chase love
I really do believe that finding your perfect match doesn’t just involve love, lust and attraction. I think that tolerance is one of the biggest components of a successful relationship. You can be seriously attracted to someone but the smell of their feet will turn you off. Sexual attraction can be rampant but their constant humming could send you over the edge. Loving someone who is good and kind could mean absolutely nothing if they pick ...more

She's been under too much pressure with work & her family, & feels overwhelmed and tired. She just needs to get away from her stressful life for a while & find herself again. She's lost her joy & her love of writing. She's hoping if she unplugs for a few weeks she will find her inspiration again. She packs a bag and gets on a plane to ...more
A Jill Shalvis book basically takes me to my reading happy place. The Heartbreaker Bay series is definitely one that’s a keeper, and each new addition to it, makes it even more so.
Spence’s book has been a long time coming, quite elusive in personality, he endeared himself to me pretty early on, because you know this is a guy who values his friends, so much so that they are pretty much his family as well.

I have a weakness for smart, sexy nerds with glasses so obviously I have been very fascinated by Spencer Baldwin since the first moment he was introduced. With his dry wit and quiet demeanour, how he believed that he couldn’t have love and success, I just wanted to hug him. I loved how he wasn’t your usual alpha hero, he was sweet and just very sexy.
I love quirky heroines and Colbie Albright was just adorable with her ability to laugh at herself. I also loved that she was a writer, which was a...more

“We all have horrible track records,” he said. “It’s what leads up to the real thing. It’s what allows you to recognize it when it shows up.

I just loved this story! I have found this series to be consistently good so I was really excited to get my hands on this newest installment. I was even more excited to read this one once I discovered it would be Spence's story since I have really enjoyed his character in the previous books in the series. I had pretty high expectations going into this book and it met or exceeded every one of them. I had such a good time reading this ...more
Reviewed for herding cats & burning soup.
Oh my gosh. Chasing Christmas Eve was adorable! I seriously want to move in to Heartbreaker Bay and MAKE them all be my friends. Even Elle and her bitchy self. lol

I feel like there should be Jill Shalvis books in every travel agencies or at least on every airlines counters. Wherever this author decides to set her stories at, like here in the beautiful San Francisco bay, I can be sure it’ll become my next vacation plan and dream like location. She has a knack for setting up and depicting beautiful places I yearn to visit in each new series she releases.
No doubt about it, this Christmas, romance readers are buying themselves a one way ticket ...more

Every time I am in the mood for a "feel-good" story, I know exactly where to go. Jill Shalvis is one of my favorite options when it comes to reading something light, with amazing characters, a great world building and still with sexiness and emotions.
I just love the Heartbreaker Bay crew so much! Now it was time for Spencer, the hot nerdy in the group, to fall in love. And who is better mate than Colbie Albright, a cute, looking for a break YA author, that will chan ...more

As a San Francisco native, I adore reading stories that are set in my beloved city and in Jill Shalvis’ latest release, Chasing Christmas Eve, she paints a vivid image of San Francisco’s Cow Hollow District where two strangers meet and begin an unlikely friendship of landlord/tenant and two friends finding a home within each other.
I haven’t read the first three book of this series and so Chasing Christmas Eve can most definitely be read ...more
Love love love Colbie and Spence. She's sort of flighty and he's sort of stand off-ish and together they're workaholics with family issues and a boat load of chemistry. I adored their interactions and reading them trying to figure out how relationships work.
Plot wise, it was almost all fluff and I sort of wanted to roll around in it. As always, it's g ...more
In the fourth book of the Heartbreaker Bay series, Jill Shalvis turns back to the trope and theme that I think she is most comfortable with. The heroine, Colbie Albright, is a little down on her luck. In an effort to change her life, she flees New York for San Francisco on a whim. She hasn’t really planned on what she is going to do there but she naturally finds herself in a strange situation within the arms of a stranger.
Spence follows a lot of Shalvis’ heroines so I feel like if you have enj ...more

You know those books that just make you smile when you read them? Chasing Christmas Eve is exactly that kind of story. Spence and Colbie’s romance is flirty and fun with a whole lot of warmth; it’s a holiday romance you can enjoy all year long.
I have a soft spot for nerdy heroes and Spence is a totally sigh-worthy one. He’s brilliant, sexy, generous, and kind – the perfect hero without ever becoming a cardboard character. He’s also quite we ...more
Chasing Christmas Eve was such a charming story! While it can read as a standalone, it did leave me wanting to go back and see how the coupled friends ended up together. Especially since this is my first Jill Shalvis book and I was a little obsessed with another couple Elle and Archer. So while I had a lot of names to learn, I'm so glad that they all came easily and that each of them were unique and stood out. And when I closed the book, I was left with the same feeling after I ...more

I’ve really loved Jill Shalvis’ Heartbreak Bay series, this quirky, fun loving group of friends who live in a section of San Francisco and work or live in a building with a courtyard and a magical fountain of love. Chasing Christmas Eve was exciting, fun, and sexy but more than that I loved that two people both of whom had unwanted fame and creative souls find each other despite the odds.

Cute mood - all christmasy and sweet. The amazing location - San Francisco - and that adorable place they all live in.
Great people and friends in that house.
Adorable love story between Spencer and Coblie. FINALLY Spence. I've been waiting for his story for forever! ☺ And I just loved it.
It maayyybe could've been a few pages shorter - but I still loved reading it.
Chasing Christmas Eve is the fourth book in the Heartbreaker Bay series. I've been following this series since book 1 and I was excited to be back in San Francisco and follow this fun group of friends. This book follows Spence who is a bit of a workaholic and Colbie, who came to San Francisco for a vacation in hopes of breaking through her writer's block. They run into each other when Colbie visits the famous fountain.

Chasing Christmas Eve was a nice story, back with the gang in Heartbreaker Bay. Colbie and Spence were fun, even if they both thought they sucked at love!
Chasing Christmas Eve includes a main character who's an author, and I love those kinds of stories. Possibly because I love reading. And getting a peek into how an author might feel when the pressure is high just makes me feel very strongly for all of them. Shalvis manage ...more

“How about we split if four ways?” Kylie suggested.
Elle produced a pocketknife.
“What the hell is that?” Kylie asked.
“I always carry a knife,” Elle said. “You know, in case of having to split a muffin in four pieces. And don’t look shocked. You carry dangerous tools yourelf. Yesterday I watched you use a huge jigsaw like it was nothing.”
“Yes, but that was for work,” Kylie said. “Although you’ve got a point about being able to split a muffin. I bet I could do that with a jigsaw in an emergency.”
Colbie’s heart twisted. Her man… “He doesn’t fit into the cat carrier.”
