Laine Loren is an aspiring model, hoping to somehow make it out of South Side, Chicago, and away from her predator uncle and cheating boyfriend Tarik. When she gets the chance to move away to Los Angeles, she hops on it and doesn't look back. Laine's plans to focus only on her career and nothing else, are suddenly thrown to the wind when she meets the dangerous and unbalanced Mischief.
Mischief, a music producing banger from Compton, only cares about three things; music, his money, and his brothers. Having to be raised by his aunt, because he was born to unfit parents, he's callous, rude, frank, and downright out of his mind. Upon meeting Laine, Mischief finds himself interested in the tough beauty, while trying to still maintain the life he has lived from day one.
With secrets, lies, and betrayal laced through each page, this budding love story between the Chicago beauty and the Compton terrorizer is sure to keep you on your toes.
This is on the cusp between four and five stars. I decided to go with five. If you're not blind, you may have noticed from my picture that I'm a corn-fed white-bred boy. This book is the antithesis of my usual reading. I've never read anything like it before. This reads much like a soap opera. I'm no connoisseur of romance novels but I imagine that this is similar to other romance novels in some ways: it's populated by trashy people, it's designed to titillate the reader and the characters are impossibly larger than life. But the story lines are compelling and the reader is left wanting more. In fact, some readers may feel cheated in that this book is in no way a complete story. It is only the beginning of several inter-linked stories. Nothing gets wrapped up in this book. I'm ok with that because I think the next book is also available to me at no additional charge on Kindle Unlimited. I would be upset if I had paid for this book expecting a full story only to learn that I would have to spend more money to receive any sort of closure. The talented author has woven a very entertaining novel. I think she has a future and I think she linked up with a good publisher. I'm very much looking forward to reading the sequel.
These Benjamin boys are something else. Mischief definitely has the right name. Laine definitely has her hands full with him. I can't believe that he did his brother like that, but then again, with a name like Mischief, what else would you expect? Chaz needs to get it together and leave that wife of his. His heart is with Erynne and I think that they have the right chemistry. Kordell and Cassie will be good together, I just hope that her crazy baby daddy doesn't do anything crazy. That ending took me by total surprise. I definitely wasn't expecting that. I hope that Laine is OK. And even though Mischief messed up, I hope that they can work things out.
Mischief is a sexy dude who is used to just living life on his own terms until he meets the beautiful Laine and has to trade his playa lifestyle to lockdown the girl of his dreams. She’s been hurt before so she’s not settling for less than what she deserves. As he chases his producer dreams, can he be the man Laine needs him to be is the biggest question. They are such a cute couple and I really found myself rooting for them to beat the odds. But so much is coming at them and fast. True hood love lol
I just can't stand silly females none of them made them men actually work for it just a smile and wave they in love ridiculous.... It makes me not interested in reading the rest of the series... I mean don't get me wrong i love a good book bae but the women don't have to be so slow and eager to please
Don't know what took me so long to read this but I enjoyed this book from beginning to end. I would say Shai really tried not to cheat but unfortunately failed and cheated once but you could also see he really do care and love Laine. I'm stuck on the fact that he could possibly have a baby with Brooke just crazy. I feel like this Liberty chick might be a problem. I like Cassie even through she got a crazy baby daddy she hiding from and I think her and Kordell would be good together. Chaz need to get that divorce because I know he since the love not being there with his wife and she seems to sneaky too. Too excited to read part 2 great job Shvonne Latrice
When I say Shvonne did it ; I mean baby girl did her thang. Mischief was a real guy but he f*cked up and he can admit that. Now Chaz and his relationship is funny. Jade gone get it. Kordell is funny. I love me some Laine and Cassie. Ion trust Mr. Whittaker .
Wow and Wow again and did I say WOW??? Okay, I've been on an urban fiction hiatus a little bit and trying to indulge my love of other genres for a minute but this one right here I had to jump right on instead of adding to my To Be Read list. Ms. Shvonne did her thing with this book right here!!! Lord, she got me morphing into my alter-ego Boonquisha and everything hunti!!! So let's get the basics out of the way. When the book opens up we meet Laine & Eryenne who have been best friends forever. Laine finds herself in the difficult situation of confronting her boyfriend after she has learned from her OB/GYN that she has chlamydia. I swear where do these dawg-like men come from I just can't deal!! At any rate. She proceeds to slap fire out of him and decides that she has to make a change in her life. The change comes in the form of an email from a Modeling Scout Jude in Los Angeles who saw her pictures and wants her to come out to LA on a trial basis to see if it would be a good fit. This couldn't have come at a better time. Not only is she dealing with her ex-trifling boyfriend but she has to constantly be on guard from her would-be rapist uncle who just doesn't understand that no means no. Lanie has been through a great deal in such a short time but early on we see that she has a backbone that has been forged in the lake of fire and she is determined to be something while maintaining her belief system. We meet Mischief not in the best light initially but he certainly had this ole girl's heart fluttering like I was an old southern belle that needed to yell for her smelling salts. Because trust a sister was over here about to swoon from the first moment that he entered on the scene(old rude behind self LOL). At any rate, Mischief aka Shae lives up to his name. He is honest to a fault but the brother definitely has a few screws loose. Even with his rudeness, short-temper, and untamable thirst for dealing with THOTS, Shvonne wrote him in such a fashion that you can't help but love him. Then not only does Ms. Shvonne give us Mischief to salivate over but then she brings in the brothers, Kordell, & Chaz and hunti I was just too done at that point. I tell you the truth this young lady know she can write an Urban Romance with her eyes closed and one hand tied behind her back. I absolutely loved this story from beginning to end. I'm telling you I was supposed to be working and kept sneaking peeks at my kindle so I could finish reading it. At any rate, if you don't believe me just 1-Click this beauty TODAY!!!! Ms. Shvonne all I can say to you is KUDOS!!! I feel honored to have had a ring-side seat to watch your evolution into such an illustrious writer. Every book gets better and better. You continue to give us more, more and more and while I HATED the ending it is only because I'm impatient and I want(you guessed right) MORE!!!!!!! Thank you for continuing to uphold your standard of excellence. I know that every book that I download from you going forward will be something that I will return to time and time again
I was so glad Laine got out of her grandmother house because her uncle seemed to have plans to rape her. Her getting the chance to pursue her dreams was a blessing in disguise. You can tell Mischief, Kordell, and Chaz are brother's. Neither have no filter. Mischief was quick tempered but meeting Laine simmered him down some. Laine is a little crazy too and that's why they make a good couple. However Mischief not used to being in a relationship because he's used to being a hoe and it is going to catch up with him because he's crossed boundaries with those who are close to him. He tried to do right by Laine but I'm not surprised he messed up. Kordell don't have any filter as well and used to having women at his disposal but Cassie is giving him a run for his money. Cassie is running from something. Well more like someone. I believe Miles is closer to getting to her than she think. Chaz is the lowkey married brother with a dazzle of crazy too. He's more laid back. Erynne has caught his attention though and I believe that was because his wife Jade doesn't support what he's doing and never show up and show out for her husband. Chaz hasn't really overstepped boundaries as of yet but if he knew how trifling, sneaky, and conniving Jade is. He wouldn't feel guilty about him and Erynne friendship. In the end Mischief guilt was getting to him and he told Laine the truth. Laine is beyond piss and just find out another secret Mischief has hidden.
Although this started out slow but the ending was wow... Shai "mischief" is THAT man. He is everything that a woman want and everything that the men's wish they were. Alpha, thug, bae, honest and down to earth while being an incredible sexy male specimen but with a lot of demons. Laine was tough, but a little bit too "hungry"... Independent, smart but with such of a on track mind, she sounds like she would do anything to go up while she won't give relationships second chances. Let's see if some mischief can change all that for her. Cassie and Kordell seems to be the only sane couple, although Kordell is a all around man and Cassie is litterarily a fugitive somewhat. Jade/Chaz/Ennery, well one can understand it a little bit, but I will only say that Jade would be very stupid to throw that out, while Ennery is not that simple. Now the extras are truly extras with their own agenda, like Jude, Rita, Tarick, Risk, Liberty, Sammii, Brooke and uncle Ernie, then we have the weir Benjamin's.... So let's continue to understand in part 2.
Laine was real ass hood ass bitch and I absolutely loved that about her.
The way Mischief was talking all that shit about wanting to break up with Laine and then panicking when he thought he actually did had me cryingggg. I couldn’t wait till Laine found out he cheated cause I just knew she was gone beat his ass. She seemed like the type to really put paws on a nigga.
Jade was wild af for having an abortion without even mentioning it to Chaz and passing it off as a miscarriage was even worse. I felt like if she and Chaz would’ve just communicated about how they both felt about the direction their marriage was headed in then it probably could’ve saved them a lot of hurt and heartache.

This series was so good—it had me hooked from page one! Mischief and Laine’s relationship had me rooting for them the entire time. I loved how they stood by each other no matter what. His relationship with his mom had me so upset, though! And his dad? So weird. I hated how no one, except Laine, really fought for him.
I also enjoyed Cassie and Kordell’s relationship. They went through so much with her abusive ex, but once all the court drama was handled, things really started looking up for them—I loved it. Everyone else had strong supporting stories, too.
I’m not sure why we need book 4, but I’m definitely going to read it!

Laine and Mischief was one couple that both didn't play. Her ex Tarik know he was lying about cheating on her. Mischief was honest to her about not wanting to be in a relationship in the beginning. He probably never expected to fall fir her that hard and develop feelings. He finally decided to try the boyfriend and girlfriend thing before he lost Laine for good. I got to give it to him he honestly tried. After his mistake I'm glad he went ahead and told Laine even though the outcome from telling wasn't so great. I hope things work out for them.
This was an urban fiction book, so it had quite a bit of the urban lifestyle that I expected. However, I was pleasantly surprised to see that the storylines and characters in this book had way more depth than I expected. It's rare to see the softer sides of male characters in these types of books. I love that they weren't depicted as one dimensional thugs. I would give this book a solid rating of between 4 and 5 stars. It did not blow me away, but it was a really good, solid book. And I can't wait to read the next one!
as usual shvonne did her do wit this one!!! Laine is my favorite character so far...she holds these men accountable for their actions!! Im glad she's standing up to jude, its somethin bout him ion like...mischief is kinda on my bad side right now.. I understand he doesnt wanna be without laine, but look at wat his lies could cost him...these other brothers are bout as bad as he is...kordell is a sucka for a crazy chick and chaz just wont leave an unhappy relationship...its about to go down in the next part with all these secrets that have been exposed!!!
This series follow Laine who is an up coming model. When she got an opportunity to get away from her trifling ass boyfriend and home situation to really start her career she takes. While in LA she met the music producer Mischief. Mischief is like most niggas fucking on anything without a care in the world. We follow Laine & Mischief love story as well as the drama unfolds 🤭
We also see Mischief brothers Kordell & Chaz love story unfolded with Cassie and Erynne…
So far my favorite brother is Kordell. Nigga funny and messy asf 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤭
I really liked this book and can’t wait to read art 2. It so funny I really hope Cassie baby day don’t find them and think if he dose her mother got something to do with it and I can’t wait to find out. Also think jade was s so dam stupid. But I really recommend this book you will love it and you want be able to wait for part 2. I also think chaz just let a good thing go with E just for jade.
I could NOT put this one down. It is very clear to me that there are some skeletons and demons that Shai has not yet dealt with from his past. Especially his relationship with his mother and father. I'm anxious to see if we really get to explore some of them in book two now that we have met all of the characters, because it seems that he struggles and has no moral compass. I was really rooting for him to make a change. We shall see.
I'm enjoying this book so far. There are the Benjamin family cousins and brothers. In their twenties. They are trying to move in a different direction from the family business. They're also young women in their twenties living in a house for aspiring models. I like that everyone is just starting out in their careers. They'll also starting to pair up it's very interesting. I'm looking forward to moving on to book two in this series.
This was soooo good. So many layers to it. I’ve never wanted a couple together more than Chaz and Erynne. I know he’s married and I wouldn’t typically wish for this but I hope they get together. I also hope Cassie tells Kordell about her baby daddy and he does something to him. I also hope that Laine is pregnant and doesn’t lose the baby. So many things happening and I’m here for it all. Kordell is also hilarious. On to book two
All I can say is crazy, crazy, crazy, those brothers are funny crazy
and u couldn't help but love them .I trully hope when that one finds out his wife had an abortion he don't go to jail for killing her.Dang Mischief got Maine pregnant I'm sorry for them I hope they can make it work
With a name like Mischief you're bound to get into all types of mess. But the bs he gets into is crazy. Seems like he has no loyalty to his family. With that being said, I love the love he has for Laine. Kordell and Cassie are so cute together. Can't wait for her to open up to him. Chaz and Erynne deserve each other. I hope they both find their happy place.
What Next?? Mischief is something else... His Brother... His Cousin... Who else can he do dirty? I hope he learned his lesson...Laine OMG I feel so bad for her it can only go up from her... Cassie Omg Can't wait to see what's going to happen with her and baby daddy...... Erynne I hope to see more of her On to Part 2,
I didn’t think I was going to like this one. Mischief is that dude that every girl wants bcz if his G swag but also bcz they know he on the road to greatness. Typical young ppl smashing n dashing booking up and fighting but it’s worth reading at least for me. Happy reading
Mischief and Laine not telling about hitting up stripper. Laine not telling she pregnant. Kordell and Cassie getting close but secrets are about to rise about baby and crazy baby daddy. Chaz pulls away from Erynne cause strong feelings. Jade had abortion cause strongly thinking of divorce.
Laine been through some thangs. Mischief. Can't say he ain't shit cause he lets them all know what's up from jump. It's going to take him to lose the best thing that ever happened to him for him to get it. What's up with these women that's with a family member of his yet stay riding his d@ck? What's up with Jade? I feel like she's sneaky.
The brothers Benjamin are no joke! Tall as trees, good looking on top of that, the three of them are trying to make their way into the music business, staying away from the life of their kingpin, drug dealer father. But the boys have issues, and it's going to take Laine, Cassie and Erynne to straighten these brothers out!
Loved the character development in this read! I felt like Shvonne gave just enough of everyone’s life to keep us intrigued our toes—This was definitely a page turner! The drama, the secrets, the lies was so juicy that I didn’t want to put my kindle down! Can’t wait to dive into part 2!
