The first three original Smallville novels, STRANGE VISITORS, DRAGON and HAUNTINGS, are republished in omnibus form to tie in with the fifth series of Smallville and the new Superman film, Superman Returns.
"Smallville Omnibus 1" consists of three novels that take place at the time of the show's first season. The best thing about it is that I think all three authors captured the tone of the show and voices of the characters quite well. It really felt just like reading an episode of "Smallville". It was pretty fun and pretty much what you would expect of a companion novel for a TV show--not the best writing, but enjoyable and entertaining. One small note I have is that I think the first novel, "Strange Visitors", really ought to have had a one-word title. That way it would not only be consistent with the other novels, but also with every episode of all 10 seasons of the show. The other authors seemed to get that, but Stern went with a two-word title, which I know is just a small matter but this decision does not really make sense to me. Anyway, this is a fun book that I would recommend to fans of the show, particularly ones who feel nostalgic for the earlier seasons and Smallville High days.
