a pretty raw collection of poems by women.
as it is with most collections, i loved some and disliked others. some poems were especially heartbreaking and hard to read so fair warning to anyone going into this.

A wonderful, raw collection of feminist poems. Very much a product of its time, but that's not a slur, so am I. Many poems about being raped or used by a callous husband. One of note refers to her body as "his aspirin." Many are humorous as well. I agree with the reviewer who pointed up Nice Men as a wonderful satire. Naked Bodies is a rarely painted portrait of eroticism with a physically challenged person, a subject broached less often even than love between folks over 60.

Most of these were really good - I especially liked:
The Heroines
Poem to the Lift
Afterwards
Naked Bodies
Snake in the Grass
Aunt Bet
Her Belly
Some of them were absolutely heart breaking. A great little find.

Sometimes you just need a good dose of feminism to feel stronger. Last night and this morning was one of those times. It worked too - I achieved way more than usual for a day off!
Some of these poems are really hard-hitting, the Anna Swirs are of course awesome, and the one about the woman who hates men peeing on the floor is hilarious!

An okay collection of poetry. Very much a product of it's time, I think. A lot of women's poetry had a similar feel, and sometimes similar themes in the '80's.
There are poems about family, ageing, rape, Greenham Common, misogyny, abortion; everyday life. They are fun, joyful, sad, angry, positive & negative.
My favourites are 'Nice Men', which is clearly saying these are anything but. And 'Ye Housewyfe', which is a humourous look at 'a-day-in-the-life' of a woman, written in an old/middle English style.
